Arancini in Boston
The best arancini that I had was at Via Matta--they don't list it on the menu, but they will always make it for you. It's better than all the places that I've tried in the North End and came closest to the taste of the arancinis that I had in Italy.
New Jang Su, Burlington
They have my favorite dumplings(mandoo) along with the best dipping sauce in the greater Boston area. They're one of the few places that have makes it in house--every once in a while I'll see the waitresses stuffing the dumplings in the back table on Saturday afternoons.
Seeking Delicious Asian Dumplings
I am a big fan of dumplings and order them at all new restaurants that I try. The absolute best Asian dumplings that I have found in the Boston Area were the fried mandoo(Korean dumplings) at New Jang Su in Burlington. The best gyoza(Japanese dumplings) that I have had were at Shabu Toki in Allston. For Chinese dumplings, I second Wangs and would also throw in the Gourmet Dumpling House which have pretty good pan-fried dumplings along with Shanhainese-style dumplings with soup inside(xiao long bao)
The Spotted Apron, Beacon Hill, Boston
We went there last week and generally had a positive experience overall. Yes, the plates were chipped and the deviled eggs could indeed use more seasoning as many others have reported. However, the empanadas were very good--which was an unexpected find in a bakery such as this. The highlight was the red velvet cupcakes, which were easily the best cupcakes I've ever had. The marscapone topping was amazing. We'll definitely go back and give them another try.
Where to find Ferrarelle & other "exotic" brands of bottled water in Boston?
We just came back from a long trip to Europe, where we had different brands of bottled water every night and gave us a new found appreciation of the differences in the taste of the various brands of water. Our clear favorite was Ferrarelle, one of the few naturally carbonated waters in the world, which we have been trying to find in the Boston area without any success. Any recomendations?
japanese curry?
After having the Curry rice at Mami, be sure to stop by Cafe Japonaise which is in the back of the same building and try their curry dougnut(curry-pan) also. This is one of the most popular snacks in Japan, and Cafe Japonaise is the only place you'll be able to find it in Boston.
black sesame & beancurd (tofu) ice cream
Oishii in Sudbury serves black sesame ice cream.
