1 lb. Can of Lump Crab Meat - What's Your Favorite Recipe?
Great thread.
Bought a pound as well and want to do something with a sandwich outside of crab cakes. Would prefer to do something hot and pressed but have no idea where to venture.
Thanks.
Baltimore - Vegeterian
Thanks folks. Some of these places definitely seem interesting.
I understand there is nothing ideal but starting points are always appreciated.
Baltimore - Vegeterian
Any recommendations for a nice upscale (nothing silly ridiculous) for a nice, quality vegeterian focused restaurant in Baltimore. I will be at the Baltimore Hilton and am looking for something unique and fun for a pre-Camden Yards dinner.
Thanks all.
Dinner recommendation in Central Jersey
I try not to be negative but Pithari is one that really has let me down. I thought the same about the owner in the past and was a regular but have been screwed over many times and have gotten horrid service several times.
I have stopped going there after being treated like garbage and I also think the food has gone quite downhill.
Are you a one-box cereal kind of Chowhound, or are you more of a promiscuous pup?
Let me guess, Wegmans? Those are delicious.
Searching for quality Inidan food in New Brunswick area
Hoysala sounds interesting. I am a bit turned off by Indian buffets because I don't like the consistency of it when it is not super fresh. I know I am in the minority there.
For a good sit-down with the wife, would Hoysala or Pooja be a better choice?
I am not surprised Bombay Gardens shut down, not at all.
Thanks everyone for suggestions.

Searching for quality Inidan food in New Brunswick area
Hello fellow Central NJ Hounds.
I am looking for options in the East/New Brunswick area for good Indian food. I used to love Piquant Bread Bar in New Brunswick before it had closed. Also, the one on route 18 across from the diner is pretty good but has let me down many times.
I can imagine there are several good ones in the Edison area but wanted to see what the tried and true favorites are for other Indian food fans?
Thanks.
Steel Cut Oats
I have lately been addicted to the delicious taste of steel cut oatmeal. I usually just have it with added sugar or maple syrup but I know there has to be more to offer and this is the place to check.
I am looking for any and all ideas, sweet or savory. I actually would like to incorporate something as a side dish with dinner but I just feel like there is so much more that I can do with it than I am doing now.
Thanks all.
LOTUS OF SIAM - MENU SUGGESTIONS
Hello all. I will be in LV this week and just made reservations based on all the good things said about Lotus of Siam. I had a couple questions:
- is dress pretty casual- hoping to just go with sneakers and jeans?
- what is best way to get both scallop and squid? I was thinking the spicy squid to start and the scallop platter to follow.
- how is the beer selection?
Thanks.

When will cooking related shows jump the shark?
Not sure if it is a regional thing, but it sounds a bit like the show Mike Colameco used to run. I always really liked that one.
Curtis Stone, who is this guy?
I couldn't agree more.
I can't watch America's Next Restaurant any more because of him and TC Masters I will try but sure it will be the same.
He is nasally and conceited, enough for me to not be able to stomach.
the best vegetarian food "products"
I actually love meat products but one of my favorite things is tempeh. I find it delicious on sandwiches or in homemade tomato sauce or chili.
Really versatile standby for me.
Chopped All-Stars - Episode 2 [spoilers]
I did think this episode was pretty entertaining.
One funny comment was my man saying that Claire appeared to be cooking a "55 ingredient fix", almost missed that one.
Do have to call the BS though with how impressed they were and how they never have seen any other contestants perform at such a high level. That being said, Anne really did seem to knock it out of the park, no? Also, they did not float them any cupcake level ingredients either which was nice.
Anne vs the Food Network Star that won the first round doesn't seem like much a fair matchup, she should wipe the floor with him.
Top Chef All-Stars - Ep. #13 (Finale Pt. 1) - 03/09/11 (Spoilers)
I didn't see it posted as I read through, so apologize if it was.
Did anyone notice that the "Pack your knives" comment at Blais last week was edited out when they showed the recap?
I wonder if they were embarrased.
What do you like to cook for yourself when your spouse or family isn't around?
Anything with Stilton, Gorgonzola, or the stinkiest of blue veined cheeses. I want the kitchen full of that funk and combined with just about anything on a hot sandwich.
Top Chef All-Stars - Ep. #11 - 02/23/11 (Spoilers)
I can't be the only moron on the distribution list for Bravo emails. Are you kidding me, I save the show to watch tonight because of basketball games and look what happens- they put the loser in the subject of their email.
Are you kidding me? What are they thinking.
Man Vs Food
These 'new' episodes aren't really new, they are just repurposed old episodes where they highlight the places rather than the challenges.
Not sure when the real new season starts but when it does, I am sure it will be centered around closing with the food challenge as they have in the past.
Bridal Shower in Central/Northern NJ
My wife was putting one of these together recently. I think what was recommended to her were some BYOs in the Bernardsville area- maybe it was the Bernards Inn.
I would think there would be something in the New Brunswick area, but not sure any ideas.

Ice cream and ___________ = a winning combination
Just tried it with new truffle salt I bought, unreal. With shavings of truffle in the salt, over quality chocolate ice cream is legit.
Finding Truffles in Philly
I did remember seeing them at the Princeton, NJ Wegman's about a year ago locked up and should have gotten them. Since then, I haven't seen in any of the several Wegman's that I frequent. I will continue to look when I go there and maybe send them a question on it.
Thanks for reminding me.
Finding Truffles in Philly
I was thinking of trying DiBruno's, Im sure it couldn't hurt and hope for the best.
Finding Truffles in Philly
Actually not going to get there until next weekend, so any ideas would still be greatly appreciated.
Finding Truffles in Philly
Hi Philly Hounds.
I will be going today to Reading Terminal Market to hit some of my favorite spots, really more or less for the fresh pretzels and breads. But I am interested in finding some truffles, are there some high end cheese shops or specialty shops in the Market that carry any of them?
I would love to use some in home cooking, thanks for any advice.
I can locate every fine craft beer establishment in that fine city, but haven't good the foodie game down yet.
Cheers.
Top Chef All-Stars - Ep. #8 - 02/02/11 (Spoilers)
Bourdain commented on this in his blog actually, that it was a dopey comment for anyone that has been to Italy to say that fennel was strictly "French".
Bourdain's blog was fantastic as always, great writing. He is up there with Linda's recaps. Both almost as good as the show itself.
Your favorite bar/pub food...Traditional and Unique...
Ding ding ding....this is the winner. Good call Kato.
I would also add quality mussels but nothing better than good fried squid.
Lebanon, NH Area- 2 Nights
Wanted to report back from my one-man quick trip up there.
It went well.
Made the trip into VT and went to the Harpoon brewpub for the tour and bar which was great. Dinner for the two nights were Gustavo's Mexican (sp?) and Prince and Pauper out in VT.
Wasn't too enthused about Prince and Pauper though. Little pompous I thought and somewhat overpriced. Service was decent but a bit of a place that seemed to be trying too hard.

Burgers, Pubs, and More
Burger Bar is on my list of all time favorites being a burger fan and a beer fan. Tough to get a great craft beer in Vegas, but you can there.
I have only now heard of Todd English Pub but sounds interesting. Burger Bar and In n Out are absolute musts every trip out to Vegas for me.
Lebanon, NH Area- 2 Nights
Great information so thank you all. I head up that way tomorrow so this is more then helpful.
I did not realize that VT was so close and I am very familiar with the Long Trail beers so this is surely a viable option if they offer good food as well. I have been to Harpoon brewery in MA but never the VT one.
Some interesting options indeed. Please let me know if there is something I may be missing to enjoy.
Lebanon, NH Area- 2 Nights
Hi All,
I will be staying in Lebanon this Thursday and Friday while visting the Dartmouth Medical Center and am looking for area recommendations.
Ideally, something pretty laid back that offers some veggie or seafood options if possible. Another thing that would be great to find out if there were any area brewpubs that may fit the bill. If not, somewhere offering the local craft beer would be solid. Something unique or interesting would be helpful- hounds usually point me in the right direction and from never having been in the area, I am more than game for many ideas.
Thanks a lot.
