Swedish couple on their way to the LES, Brooklyn and Queens, pls help!

If you have a smartphone, I would recommend the app Ride The City. You can plug in where you want to go and it will tell you different routes to get there via bike lanes if it is possible.

hoja santa leaf - where to buy?

I've found it in dried form at a grocery store in Sunnyside -- the one at the 46th street 7 train stop.

Thanks for the early report, I've really been looking forward to Fette Sau. Was it crowded?

Whoa, looks like you've really nailed this dish! Glad that you like it as much as I do. A couple years ago, this was my every-weekend breakfast...maybe I'll have it for dinner tonight.

Astoria Greek Deli - Cold Appetizers

My favorite place for taramosalata is Greek HOuse Foods at 32-22 30th Avenue. I think they also have tzatziki too.

Mediterranean Foods also might have what you are looking for.

Pies and Thighs

The beans have meat in them. One of the reasons why I love P&T so much is because they manage to sneak meat in almost every veg that they offer.

It's sort of hard to find and I don't think that there's even a sign. It is on the corner of Kent and S. 5th.

Huh. I love this dish. the chopping of the broccoli (I didn't use cauliflower because I'm not a fan) is time consuming but very worth it.

Ah yes, that's the one that I posted about upthread. I loved that dish but got a little lazy with the whole crouton bit so my shortcut was to toast some bread and tear it up into cubes. Not exactly the same but still really, really good.

Glad you liked it, I would definitely say that it was one of my best bites of 2006. The "garden" is I think the patch of cement with tables right next to the entrance.

I agree with Rubee. Definitely make your own breadcrumbs because they'll not only taste better but the larger size adds to the dish. I find that adding enough olive oil also helps.

Glad you guys liked it!

bar at Peter Luger's? transport situation?

There are no chairs at the bar but I don't find the PL bar to be particularly pleasant. It's jammed with a lot of people waiting for their table and call me an old fogie but I like to *sit* and sip my coctail. The good news is that there is a WONDERFUL bar just about across the street where you can have a drink. Here's a link to their website:

pitu I made this too but thought that the result was really good. I wonder if the quality of your paprika affected it as the paprika really gives it that extra smoky oomph. The romesco takes a looooong time to make and when I do it again, I'll double the recipe and freeze half.

Wild Pacific Salmon in Queens?

This isn't in Queens but if you're looking for salmon then you should know about Acme's Fish Friday's. Acme is located in Greenpoint and they supply Russ&Daughters, Fairway, etc. On Friday from 8am-1pm they sell to the public at VERY discounted rates.

Excellent Rubee! I hope you like it. I forgot to mention that it also goes well with some white fish. Good for post holiday eating.

Add me to the chorus of that looks like cheesy perfection. I am definitely going to give that a try very soon.

Now let me pay you back with the eggs fried in breadcrumbs recipe. This recipe actually became kind of a "problem" for me because I was making it so often. You basically fry breadcrumbs to make them crispy and then fry an egg on top off that. Finish her off with some thyme and a good little red vinegar and you're in business. I love it because essentially you're making the eggs and toast together.

My other favorite egg recipe is the omelet one when she mixes crouton into the cooking egg. I think it's called Madeline's omelet? Again, the whole toast in the egg thing is going on and the result is "problematic." This one has now become my every weekend (and sometimes even a weeknight dinner) meal. Plunked on top of a big green salad? All is right with the world.

Yellowtail crudo at Neptune oyster bar -- holy smokes!

Can't add much to yumyum's report except that I really, really love the place. YY and I had a crudo there a few years ago that was equally interesting and delicious. Something with salmon and toasted something something. Yes, I know that's really helpful.

Also, can I just say that we're brilliant for going New Year's Day? When we arrived, it was just us, the bartender and one other couple.

Oh and as much as it hurts to type this, yes there is such a thing as too much butter.

I wasn't sure which thread the salsa verde should go on? Anyway, would it be too over the top to say that the salsa verde is life-changing? Well it changed my life.

I keep a little crock of it in the fridge at all times and I use it in the following ways:

--toasted bread, cheese (usually La Tur), salsa verde
--toasted bread, boquerones, salsa verde
--toasted buttered bread, fried egg, salsa verde

You get the idea. It cuts through rich food like nobody's business and is outrageously delicious. The basic receipe that she gives is good and I like to do some of the additions like avocado or hard boiled egg. The basic herb mix that I use is parsley (of course) and basil.
