Sun and Moon VS Solomon's Market - Providence

What are your thoughts?

I've only eaten at a handful of Korean restaurants and haven't tried Sun and Moon yet.

I like the saucier dishes at Solomon's but their bibimbap is too dry for my taste.

Any dish recommendations at Sun and Moon?

(If you've already posted about either of these - thanks! I've read those posts!)

Block Island in the Winter

I am looking for a quiet 2-3 day New Year's getaway and Block Island is one option.

Looks like the 1661 Inn is open and serves breakfast, but wondering about other dining options during the off season and during this holiday time.

Rhode Island- Do you have Ice Cream- Homemade

I am going to be one of those repliers that I hate - not really answering the question you asked!

I think the best homemade ice cream NEAR Rhode Island is in Rehoboth, MA at a place called Uncle Ed's Front Porch. There are consistently over thirty flavors at a time, all made right in the back one batch at a time.

My favorites are the pie flavors. Coconut cream pie has swirls of cream, chunks of pie crust, and coconut flavored ice cream. He also has fun things like blueberry cobbler pie, lemon meringue pie, plain lemon ice cream, black raspberry oreo, yum!!

There are also some nice goats and sheep in the backyard.

Troup House in Providence - anyone been yet?

I went one week ago on a Friday evening and thought it was very, very good. Service was slow on the porch at peak time (but there were a lot of low-numbered license plates in the lot). Really beautiful inside.

We had and I strongly recommend:
Arugula salad with fennel, orange, and pancetta dressing
Polenta special that came with criminis (very light! so good!)
Braised beef ribs

We had and I recommend as being solid but not fantastic:
Sausage and rabe pasta
Lemon risotto with grilled chicken

They had several crepe specials - appetizer and dessert - that sounded excellent.

BYOB In Providence, RI?

Guido's Restaurant at 100 Hope Street is a small Italian place (across the street from Rue De L'Espoir) that I personally really like (some don't) that is often quiet on weeknights and accordingly could accommodate a group. I recommend their special sauce.

These are BYOB but may not be appropriate cuisines depending on what you're serving:
- Solomon's Market, 404 Benefit Street (Korean)
- Sakura, 231 Wickenden Street (Sushi, etc)

And yes, I went to Sawaddee Thai at 93 Hope St recently and it was BYOB.

Cocina Guatemalteca in Providence/CF/Pawt

(My opinion is that) there's a reason Mexican food is so ubiquitous and other Central/South American cuisines aren't. Guatemala is geographically close and they still use some peppers in their cooking (which most other C/S American regions do not and probably why I don't like them nearly as much).

But here's another suggestion:
El Chapincito, 482 Broadway

Coffee in Providence

What are your recommendations for brewed coffee and lattes in the greater Providence area?

Atmosphere isn't important to me.

I usually go to Coffee Exchange or Seven Stars Bakery...I've realized I need to get around more.

Name your favorite burger joint!

Harmon's in Falmouth, ME!!!!!

Vivian's in Portland, ME (I might even like it better than Harmon's!)!!!

I don't understand the appeal of Stanley's in Central Falls, RI - I think they are gross.

I agree with the Corner Bistro comment for NY. Yummm.

Any Korean in Providence, RI

The Korean Solomon Market has good bibimbap.

404 Benefit Street.

Weeknights are best - very crowded Friday and Saturday nights.

Ten Prime

IT'S IN PROVIDENCE !

Sorry I didn't say that.

Thanks for the hot rock rec - that sounds fun although I will probably just eat the beef and use the rock to warm my hands.

Ten Prime

I am going to Ten Prime Steak 'n' Sushi this week...

I've searched the board for specific suggestions but of those that have recommended it I don't see any of their picks.

What do you suggest I get?

Starters, sushi, steaks, entrees, desserts, whathaveyou.

Thank you...

Chocolate Syrup for Lattes

What are your recommendations for a brand of chocolate syrup for turning regular lattes into MOCHA LATTES!?

BYOB in Providence

CC closes at 7:30 PM - it's really more of a lunch destination for RI politicos. It looks like a living room and it is run like one - the owner isn't super friendly to those she doesn't know eating at her home. If you show up for lunch during the week getting a table isn't a problem. That being said - there is something about it that I really like and I recommend trying it out. The food is definitely good but not fantastic. Perhaps it IS the inaccessibility that I like!

Another suggestion for BYOB is Guidos, a small Italian eatery on Hope St across from Rue De L'Espoir. Seems to be a love/hate relationship with that place - I love it although I only ever get their linguine with special sauce.

Sabra Hummus

In the NYC area hummus made by Sabra is most delicious I have ever had - store bought or homemade.

Hummus sold under Sabra in the Providence area is available - but it is either a different company or a different distributor that uses a completely different recipe.

Does anyone know where to get Sabra hummus in SE New England that is the real thing?

Thanks!

North Attleboro, Attleboro area?

The Colonel Blackinton Inn is good, classic and quaint and has outdoor summer seating. Raw oysters, steaks, seafood, lamb, etc. Little bit pricey considering the quality.

I warmly recommend Bistro 45 (used to be called Gourmet House - same thing tho) on the main drag in North Attleboro - Providence style restaurant at Attleboro prices, with a subtle Mediterranean and Eastern Euro flair. Alternating and inexpensive Euro beer selections. I hope this place stays open...
45 North Washington St, (508) 699-4677

Cafe Porto Bello is an Italian place right down the street from the Bistro and always popular but my two experiences were below-average.

Rancho Chico in Plainville and El Azteca in Attleboro are both adequate and festive greasy-platter style Mexican places (Azteca is more authentic and casual).
