Meskerem on 47th St. now Meske Ethiopian Restaurant
Meskerem on 47th, after being shuttered for a while, was open when I went back a few days ago. It has a new name -- Meske Ethiopian Restaurant (on a new business card) and a new phone number: 212.399.1949. New owners? Looked to be the same old menu. I got two vegtable lunch special combinations to go. The taste was much better than recent years and the portions were quite ample. New chef? Will be going back soon try some other the other dishes I used to get.

Chicken sashimi
I seem to recall a line from a recipe for chicken sashimi that I came across in a Japanese cookbook many years ago: "Take a boneless breast of chicken and place in boiling water -take out as soon as possible." Slice.... etc...
New Chinatown Restaurant: Dun Huang Seafood
As much as I liked the previous occupants of 103 Mott Street (Oriental Seafood/Oriental Food/Oriental Pearl over the years and over many name chages) Dun Huang Seafood is better!
Where is the Best Dim Sum in Manhattan? [Moved from The Best board]
103 Mott street is closed. One of the owners said that the landlord wanted to double the rent! Very sad. Been going there for years (various names as the partners changed) my wife for decades.
Oriental Pearl - not bad, not great
It's gone. Closed -- I stopped by last week. One of the owners said the landlord wanted to double the rent. By the way the name hasn't been Oriental Pearl recently. I think it was Oriental Food or Oriental Seafood or both sequentually. They would change the name when partners left or were added. Sorry to see go. Been going there for years. Not the greatest but always dependable and sometimes would rise up above expectations.
Halal food cart spices?
Anyone know what spices are used for the chicken and/or lamb over rice that the Halal Food Carts offer?
When I ask I get: "it's a secret" or "only the boss knows".
Queens Restaurant with PARKING
I want to take my 92 year old aunt out to dinner for her soon to be birthday. It would be be much easier if I could find a decent restaurant with parking. Almost any kind other than fast food would do.
Thanks.
