A nine course meal shared with my family in Italy. I was 14. To discover the joys of olives, olive oil, fried stuffed pumpkin flowers, handmade pasta, risotto, roast rabbit in red wine with polenta, all for the first time and in one meal! Unforgettable! To that point, I had only been spoilt by a wealth of incredible cooks and bakers in South Africa and had never experienced traditional Italian, wow! That first taste of parmesan cheese, the good stuff and salami.
