Maybe moving to Sunnyside, seeking general info
For convenience sake for my GF, it looks like in a few months we will be moving from Brookyln Heights up to Queens. Because she will be doing a masters program at Queens College and I work right off Bryant Park, I've been told Sunnyside would be a safe, convenient neighborhood to live in.
I suppose my general concerns are what the supermarket scene is like - are there good natural\organic options? Is there a good fish market? From what I've briefly read there seems to be a ton of diversity in terms of restaurants...is there a general area that would be better to live in for easier walking distance?

Watty and Meg
I've been with the GF 3 or 4 times and have nothing but good things to say, great shrimp and grits, good soups and salas, nice space, had a great piece of skate wing there on the last visit. Not sure where you saw negative reviews but I would recommend checking it out.

Scarpetta, Convivio or Del Posto for Pasta
I have not been to DP, but I'd highly recommend Convivio, and prefer it over Scarpetta. Convivio is a fantastic deal if you do their 4-course meal and I haven't had a bad dish there yet.

Pad Thai in Brooklyn Heights?
I have tried pad thai in the hood from Joya, Em, Sesame, Lemongrass, Cafe Chili, Lantern, Sea (which closed a few months back), and Ghang. They're all moderately OK, I think Sesame is my favorite. Overall, I'd stick to Em and Ghang for regular thai dishes, and just have somewhat low expectations because despite being a dozen or so options, none are special.

Luke's Lobster
I havent been by yet, is this a sit-down and order with a server joint? To-go only?

Cioppino in the Midtown area
Not that it's going to be as authentic/great as in a restaurant, but you can actually buy Cioppino from Trader Joe's, it's frozen in a bag, heat in a pot and it's all there, not bad for a couple bucks.

NYC Wine and Food Festival 2009
The oyster bash is new, so there isn't really a whole lot to know. Last year I went to Meatpacking Uncorked and one of the TimesTalks events. MU was a lot of fun, there were probably somewhere around 30-40 locations in the hood each serving a few different types of wines. This year it appears they will also have food from restaurants which is a nice addition. The Talks events, at least those in the Times Center, have seating for maybe about 150 people, and usually just 2 or 3 people having a conversation with a moderator for an hour or so. Chelsea After Dark was well received last year and I believe sold out. I don't know much about the Tour or Murray's. In case you may have overlooked it, there's a free 'Le French Lounge' set up at the Astor Center all day Saturday and Sunday with wine and cheeses if you have any ticket to any event. The Grand Tasting, while pricey at $150, is a huge event, tons of food and wine options over a 3 hour period is a good time.

Help! Brooklyn Heights Delivery...
My gf and I often do delivery from Queen, we'll share an order of pasta fagioli, which is fantastic and a huge portion, and a pasta dish, usually a baked ziti or linguine with clam sauce, delivered for about $25. I'll tend to agree with everything BillyBob says above. Rice in DUMBO is another option, they have some good, not great, dishes and it's affordable

Italian/Seafood Birthday Dinner for 2 - $250
My 25th birthday is coming up soon and my gf is asking where I want to go, preferably seafood or Italian. We've done Convivio, Scarpetta and Babbo recently, Convivio being our favorite, anywhere with chicken liver like that gets a spot in my heart forever.
Is it possible to get out of Marea with some wine for $250? We love Aquagrill but would like to try somewhere new, any other seafood spots, besides Le Bernarndin where we're doing her b-day later this year?
I don't have any interest in Del Posto, are there any other big name Italian places worthy of a $250 bill? Lupa's menu looks good and reasonably priced, don't know how nice of a place it is.

The Wing Bar on Smith St.
I took the GF here the other night for the first time, nice space, like the idea, but the execution was a bit poor. We ordered a side of corn on the cob to start, and soon out comes 3 pieces of corn which had been fried, I've never seen it before, it tasted terrible and we sent it back, no clue why they don't grill them. Anyways, for mains, I had an order of hot wings, they were fine, but the hot sauce is a joke, more like a mild. GF had the veggie burger. First time it came out it was still frozen in the middle. Second time it came out, GF noticed a hair in her fries. She was actually quite enjoying the veggie burger until she discovered the hair, and we both thought the fries were rather good. Service was sub-par. When we asked one waitress if she could bring out some mustard, she replied "I don't know if we have any, it's my first day." How do you not know if there's mustard in your restaurant? At one point, we noticed all 3 servers and the cook were outside smoking a cig, leaving a rather full main space without anyone to ask for anything. They comped most of our meal, though I would've been upset if they hadn't, don't think we'll be going back any time soon which is unfortunate because I really wanted to like this place.

do they slice lox by hand any more in Brooklyn??
Garden of Eden - Montague St in BK Heights - slices lox by hand, and they'll slice thinly for you if you request. I don't think the quality is as good as R&D but they also do sell whole whitefish and (at least for me) being only 2 blocks away is more convenient than the LES.

Best Black and White cookie??
Donut Pub is my favorite as well, a 24-hours place with a perfect black and white? Can't be beat in my opinion, and I've yet to have a bad donut or anything else there.
re: Moishe's, it's good, but only if you like lemon in your cookie, it's too strong for me but someone looking for that is sure to enjoy it.

Fish Market w/scungilli?
There was a fish monger at the Union Square market yesterday, selling fresh conch for $10/lb, pre-cooked, I picked up 1/2 lb simmered in some homemade fra diavola sauce and it was absolutely fantastic. I forget the vendor's name, but they were on US West and he said they were going to try and have it pretty regularly, highly recommended!

Moving to Brooklyn Heights
I dont know why Iron Chef is always busy...perhaps because there's no other Japanese option in North Heights, but I've got to say it's quite bad. I've either ate there or took out about 8 times, each time trying different dishes both cooked and sushi and have not been remotely satisfied once. I really want to like this place because it's literally right down the block, but I've completely given up. Stick with Hibino for cooked dishes, or for sushi stick with one of the Cobble Hill stand-bys, either Kyoto, Cube 63, Ki or Osaka.

Aldea
I went a few days after opening, and 3 out of 4 dishes we had were great, the lone exception being the razor clams, which was very disappointing because it's perhaps my favorite clam, the foam on it really detracted from the flavor I thought. The monkfish was fantastic.

Considering a move from BKLYN to Tribeca, help!
Hey all, so I've been living on the Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill border for 2 years now and have taken full advantage of all the restaurants, markets, and recent Trader Joe's addition. My lease is up May 1st and it looks like I might be moving to Tribeca, but I need to make sure my food needs can be attended to.
My GF and I cook 4-5 nights a week...is Whole Foods our best seafood and meat option? Are there any small specialty markets around?
Those other nights we like to usually stay around the neighborhood for a bite to eat or take-out/delivery. What is selection like as far as solid, reasonably priced, Thai, Sushi, Latin American and Italian?

Da Andrea moving?
and to follow up one more time, I went for dinner tonight around 7PM, nearly completely full, same menu they could stand to hire 1 or 2 more waiters, our service was a bit slow. No complaints with the food though, as always

I don't really have a recommendation but I would say to definitely avoid Yoshi (E Houston and Ludlow) as well as Cherin (E. 6th bwtn 1st and 2nd)

Want a lobster over 2 lbs- which restaurant is reasonable?
Centro Vasco is my recommendation, both for large lobsters and delicious lobsters. I've had 3 1/2 pounders there, my favorite place for the animal.

Greek food
I don't know about Kyma but I tried Karavas in the West Village a few nights ago and had a terrible experience. Gross octopus, saw the chef using the same knife to cut vegetables after cutting raw meat, my dish came with french fries that might have originally been from McDonald's, we'll never go there again.

San Marzano Pizza on Clinton
I popped in a few nights ago and tried a Pesto slice (which they're experimenting with), I was disappointed with the crust and for $4 it was very small. The other slices looked more appetizing, but still too expensive for me.

GREAT but Affordable Sushi
My GF lives a few blocks down from cube 63 and thus we used to frequent it quite often. Noticed recently that the rolls seem significantly smaller on several visits, and thus not quite the deal it used to be, we haven't been back in months.
