Brooklyn bridge marriott area

While delicious, I wouldn't count Queen as a quick and light lunch, it's a wait-service white table cloth restaurant.

Cobble Hill favorites...so far!

Has anyone tried the new incarnation Mocha Hooka (fka Fountain)? I used to like their hummus the best but haven't got around to trying the new one.

Looking for smoked fish for a party in Tempe vicinity (not Chompie's)

I'd prefer to avoid Costco, Whole Foods and pretty much any other supermarket. Is there no upscale fish market or anything else out there?

Looking for smoked fish for a party in Tempe vicinity (not Chompie's)

Having a party this weekend for about 20 people and looking to get some smoked fish, lox, whitefish, sable. Does anywhere within say 30 minutes of Tempe have a great selection/quality? I'm not a big fan of the offerings from Chompie's.

I need great cracked conch in Key Largo vicinity for lunch today

Subject says it all

Any word on Sadie's Kitchen in Cobble Hill?

The few non-CH reviews I've seen mostly mention the mac and cheese. Would like to see a menu to know what else they have but can't find a website anywhere (how do people open restaurants nowadays without a website?).

Best BBQ within 30 minutes of Tempe?

Thanks all, I got a few other recommendations for Joe's from extended family, seems like that's the spot.

Something similar to Montys Raw Bar in Coconut Grove?

Anything furthur up or down on the water would work, say within 20 minutes in either direction, does not necessarily have to be in the grove.

Best BBQ within 30 minutes of Tempe?

I'm going to be in Tempe for a week towads the end of thenyear and wondering what the best BBQ is within a half hour of Tempe? Thanks all

Something similar to Montys Raw Bar in Coconut Grove?

For the past I dont know how many years, when i've gone home to miami for thanksgiving weekend, i've always met friends who still live there at Montys in coconut grove one night. Its not that its the greatest food, but in November it's perfect weather to sit outside, nice to be on the water, and its the kind of place a group of 8-12 people can take their time to eat and drink for hours without being rushed. Id prefer to stay away from south beach, but otherwise does anyone have any kind of similar casual, outdoor suggestions (preferrably seafood but will consider other foods) for a larger group?

Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill - best delivery options? (any cuisine)

Frankies 457 delivers during the week. Queen is our favorite but may not deliver depending how far down you are.

Sorry to be a downer but what i've discovered after living in the neighborhood for 5 years is that generally the best food you can get is from restaurants that dont deliver, or that youre just best off getting your own groceries and ingredients from the italian or middle eastern specialty stores. Or, suck it up and go out for one of the really good meals one can have in our neighborhood like Hibino, Seersucker or Lucali.

There's plenty of perfectly decent delivery food if you must order in... thai (em's side menu, ghang, sesame), sushi (osaka, kyoto, ki), and middle eastern on atlantic (theyre all generally good though can be rather consistent)

Considering moving to Clinton Hill, where do you do grocery shopping?

i'm considering moving from cobble hill, where i've been spoiled with fish tales, staubitz, trader joes, sahadis and union market, to clinton hill. I'm familiar with restaurants there and in nearby fort greene, but where's the best food store, fish and meat markets, specialtiy stores, etc.? For reference, i'd be close the the fulton/clinton C stop.

Pok Pok coming to Columbia St.

This would definitely be a welcome addition if it's as good as everyone says it is, the plethora of Thai options in our neighborhood generally ranges from bad to mediocre.

Brooklyn for Thanksgiving Dinner

Frankies 457 on Court St in Carroll Gardens is doing Thanksgiving dinner, they're taking reservations and I think it's $40 a head: http://www.frankiesspuntino.com/

Is there a wait just to get a slice at Di Fara?

Just wanted to report back, we showed up at DF around 3PM yesterday, 2nd in line (though about a dozen or so people were waiting for pies), and after the person in front of me ordered, I ordered and received 2 slices right away, ate (enjoyed immensely) and we were on our way. Thanks all for the comments and suggestions.

Is there a wait just to get a slice at Di Fara?

Thanks Alan

Is there a wait just to get a slice at Di Fara?

That link you provided is no help at all. I know about the wait for a pie. I'm asking whether or not you have to wait in line, and for how long, just to get a slice.

Is there a wait just to get a slice at Di Fara?

i'm renting a car tomorrow with my parents, visiting from out of town, to take them around where they grew up in Brooklyn. Undoubtedly there will be plenty of eating throughout the day, so rather than get a whole pie at DF i'd rather just get them a slice or 2. Do you have to wait in line there for a slice, or can you just walk up and get one to go? This will be on a friday around lunchtime.

Best lunches along the BDFM from Columbus Circle to Grand/Delancey St (below 34th/above 50th)

I work in midtown right on top of the BDFM station at 42nd Street. I know my way around 34th to 50th streets between 7th and 3rd avenues for lunch, but I realize it's silly that I don't use the subway more to go further uptown or downtown.

Every so often I'll remember that I need a slice from Joe's on Carmine and will hop on the train and be able to get down there, eat, and get back to work in 30-40 minutes. I can take my full hour lunch most of the time, so I know I can get as far down as Grand St. on the BD or Delancy/Essex on the FM, though I don't think I'd go much further uptown than Columbus Circle or the 63rd St F.

What are your favorite, realtively quick and under $10 lunches within a block or 2 of stations below 34th street or above Roc Center?

Essential BoCoCa?

Everyone on this thread has done a very nice job summing up the choices.

Regarding House of Pizza and Calzone, I'd suggest sticking to the calzone, I've found the pizza to be decent at best, I much prefer slices from My Little Pizzeria, or getting pies delivered from Fascati.

Hibino is absolutely the best Japanese in the area, we tried all others in the neighborhood and this is the only place we eat at now.

We used to be in love with Brucie, but be warned that it is very heavy (many dishes are made with cream sauces) and salty. If you order right, it's fantastic, but I'd stick to the lighter options.

If you're looking for casual with outdoor space (better get there soon), we really like Two8Two on Atlantic, mostly burgers and fries, nice selection on tap.

No one mentioned any Middle Eastern places. I've had positive and negative experiences at nearly each one. My advice is, if you like ME food, to try each one and see what suits your fancy.

And as eeee stated, pretty please do not call the area BoCoCa, it was a very failed attempt to brand the area by real estate brokers.

The Lobster Place - closing it's store on Bleeker Street

In regards to your last comment, i read that all of the bleecker staff would be moved to the chelsea market location.

Carroll Gardens Fish Store--Brooklyn

Jon - I live by Court & Atlantic, which is why I always go to FT, just a lot closer, I've walked past CGFM a few times but never really had a reason to go in. Besides the octopus and squid, anything else special they usually get in there fish or shellfish-wise? Do they get live lobster in?

How does Fette Sau *work*?

Wife & I went 3 weekends ago on a Saturday night, it was pretty hot but not unbearable, we waited in line for an hour and 15 minutes, and then spent another 10 minutes once we had our food waiting for people to get up so we could sit down. We really enjoyed the meat - it being our first time, we got a mix of foods with pulled pork, pork belly, sausage and lamb tenderloin - but were very disappointed by the beans and potato salad. I think we spent about $50 and the only thing we left over were the sides.

Colonie, Friday evening?

I really can't comment on comparisons to JTH because I've never been there before for food, but I'd have to strongly disagree with comparing Colonie to Queen. The average person, myself included, would be full on an entree alone from Queen, which runs $17-28 on average depending on whether it's pasta or meat/fish, comparable to the mains at Colonie. At Colonie, I had a crostini order, half an appetizer, and a main plate, and left hungry enough to need a slice of pizza to be satisfied. The only time I've ever spent close to $90 at Queen is when it was for 4 people.

In regards to egit's comment that a party of two should expect to order 4-6 dishes, I totally agree, but also don't feel that they did any sort of job of letting the customer - us - know that their portions are small when we sat down, nor would their website lead one to believe it was like that. We probably would've needed another appetizer to fill up, but that would have pushed us over $100 without any drinks. For that price, I'd rather take a taxi to Manhattan and have a fantastic meal at a place like Little Owl.

Colonie, Friday evening?

My wife and I just tried Colonie for the first time last Friday. We got there some time around 6:30/7:00 and sat the last remaining open table. The kitchen counter seats were mostly open. By the time we left there was a long wait.

That said, perhaps it was just our experience, because people in the neighborhood seem to love the place, but we will never again go back there. The mushroom crostini was completely lacking flavor. We also shared the spring pea agnolotti, which was perfectly fine, but a $14 pasta appetizer should have more than 8 small pieces. The ramps that came with my duck were so salty they were impossible to eat. The duck was fine. My wife's fish was dry and the potatoes that came with it were undercooked.

With each issue we encountered, we let at least our waitress know, and in some cases the manager. They apologized each time but never offered to cook a new dish, or bring us dessert, or take something off the bill. With tax and tip, the bill came out to around $90, and we were both still hungry and had to grab a slice at My Little Pizzeria on the way home. While the restaurant's decor is very nice, the noise level was defeaning.

It just seemed crazy to us to spend that much money for a place that we felt so 'blah' about. I think the people writing about how much they like this place just really WANT to like it, because there's so few great dining options in this neighborhood.

Sunday brunch in Carroll Gardens

I think Cafe Luluc has the best pancake I've had in New York (and that's including Clinton St)

B&B Empire Bagels

It's possible Daniel76 was in front of me, the guy ordered a dozen bagels and 2 containers of cream cheeses to go and I saw that they had next to nothing in them.

My wife and I were very unsatisfied with the bagels. Perhaps I don't "get" what a Montreal bagel is, but it looked and tasted nothing like what I get from Mile End, and I ordered the exact same plain bagel with cream cheese and lox that I get from there. My wife couldn't even finish half of her bagel because of the taste. The lox appeared to be the generic out-of-the-container kind, which is disappointing if true because there are much better sources in NYC. With other solid options within a 10 minute walk...Court Street Bagels, Mile End, Hot Bagels on Montague...I can't imagine going back here again.

Dog friendly restaurants in Brooklyn?

Bar Tabac, despite having a bunch of outside seating, has always told us no dogs are allowed, which is why we stopped going there.

Unfortunately there's a ton of restaurants with outside seating, but it's almost all in back patios, very few with sidewalk seating in this area. Montague Street has some restaurants but there isn't a place I could imagine ever wanting to eat at.

good lunch place near Court St

Note that Brucie is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Van Horn Sandwich Shop now open

I agree with BGR, it was dry, and mine was extremely salty. Especially at that high of a price point for something that should be $6-8, I'm afraid I'll never even bother giving it a 2nd try.
