What have you been enjoying in Rockland County...

We went to Aqua Terra for Mother's Day one year. I'll have to give it another try. I always forget about it.

DVine I really like it here. It's close to home, and when I get off the bus from NYC, it's right there which makes it super convenient. The only drawback for me is that it is pricey to go there all the time.

Good brunch in Nyack area

D'Vine Bar in Sparkill is now open for brunch. I have only been there for dinner and apps. It's a bit pricey but their food is great!

D'Vine Bar Sparkill

The other day I was there for a cocktail and an appetizer, just killing time at the bus stop. I had the greatest fried Brussel sprouts. They were crispy, dry, but in a good way, with a coating of parm, and rosemary. So tasty!

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay - February 2014! [OLD]

I went for it and really love it. I'm going to have to stock up with a few. Bought a jar of bread and butter pickles, doctored it up with some fresh hot pepper slices, and a few grinds of the ghost pepper mill. Really tasty!

Vincent's Clam Bar Mott st nyc

Sounds like they are worth the trip. Are any of these places near or easy to get to from lower Rockland Co? Which is the closest?

The way I look at it, it's got the right name, if the food is good, using the same preparations, which it should, it will draw folks. The name will bring them in. Lot's of folks would drive just like you.

Anyone know when they'll open the Norwood location? Seems like I've been waiting forever.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - January 2015 [Old]

I buy the salmon pieces, it's about 3.00 less and pretty tasty.

Trader Joe's YAY/MEH/NAY - January 2015 [Old]

YAY - I finally bought the ghost pepper mill. It's much more spicy than red pepper flakes. I now add it to anything I would add the old red pepper flakes to. I add both. The ghost pepper is pretty hot, I accidentally sniffed when I was grinding it the other day. What a mistake! The only thing I don't care for much is the smokey flavor. I would like it better if there was a non smoked version.

Some questions for my NJ friends about our home board...

I posted on a restaurant near where I live on the NY State Board, I find the traffic is really low for anything Rockland Co. related. I think people don't post because there are not very many CH members actively reading the board. Also I don't eat out nearly as much as I used to and when I do go out to eat, it's always the same places near home or work, which I can only write so much about.

Some questions for my NJ friends about our home board...

I see this on the New York State Board. I've been around CH since 1999 and it's not the same, there is still good information to be found, just not at much discussion about local establishments. Over the years the boards have become more of a place for people posting questions rather than contributing new places or dishes to try.

D'Vine Bar Sparkill

Had a really great meal with friends here. Started with a pizza with arugula, grape, shaved cheese , had Catalan shrimp, nice garlicky sauce with a bit of citrus, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, I've had these elsewhere as it one of my favorite dishes, and was really pleased with the fineness of the shrimp. The Greek pizza was very flavorful. I'd like a bit more lamb sausage on it, would definitely get it again. Fish of the night was also perfectly cooked. The bartender was so knowledgable. He knew exactly what I was looking for to go with my meal. Reservations are a must unless you like to do what we do, go on the early side and sit at the bar.

Ghost Pepper Wings at Popeyes

On the other hand they appear to be so mild the kids can do the same!

Ghost Pepper Wings at Popeyes

I went, but they were sold out. Ordered the regular spicy wings, but they were super bland.

Wondering if anyone has tried the Ghost Pepper Wings at Popeye's. I'm planning to, but would like some comments on the spicing.

Dinner Party Additions & a Roast

I'm going to have to save this for a future party. The list has expanded to 36+! Going to cook margarita marinated chicken fajitas. Serve those with little tortillas, and the rest of the stuff you usually get with fajitas. I can grill them on the grill, and free up the oven! Thanks for all of the great suggestions.

Dinner Party Additions & a Roast

My Dh decided to have a NYE Dinner party. It's grown to 23 friends! For the main buffet courses I'm cooking roasted vegetable lasagna, spinach pie, and I'd like to make some kind of a roast, aside. From pork, what else is big enough to make, and under 40.00? How many lbs? Not everyone eats meat but I want to be sure there is enough for all. Anything else missing? I'm making a 2 different salads too.

What is your favorite tomato/marinara sauce in a jar?

Watch for sales. I just bought 4 bottles at shop rite on sale 3.99 each. I'd never buy it at full price. Victorria brand is good too. I usually look at the ingredients, if it has what I make in my own sauce I buy it.

DEVILED EGGS! Home Cooking Dish of the Month (December 2014)

I just made these as an appetizer for Thanksgiving. I used "inexpensive" black lumpfish caviar as a topping. Basic eggs, just mixed with a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and mayo.

Thanksgiving/Festive Recipe for CostCo Boneless Leg of Lamb?

I served a leg of lamb last Thanksgiving. I also marinated it in olive oil, oregano, rosemary, salt and thyme. I took a thin sharp knife and studded it with chunks of garlic. Baked it in the oven until it hit your right degree of temp. It was delicious! Served it with the usual Thanksgiving trimmings, stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce etc.

Any Thoughts on The Hamilton Beach Stovetop Safe Slow Cooker?

My comment was in reference to my last slow cooker it had hotspots and would heat up too fast. This seems to be an issue with a few models and one that I don't want again. If you can recommend a good one let me know.

Any Thoughts on The Hamilton Beach Stovetop Safe Slow Cooker?

That's a good point I've given up on non stick cookware. The hotspots frustrated me the most.

Any Thoughts on The Hamilton Beach Stovetop Safe Slow Cooker?

This model sounds like the one I would like due to the fact you can truly cook the meal in one pot. You can use the insert for browning your meats right on your stovetop without having to use another pot.
I had a crockpot brand which was disappointing. It had hotspots and the handle snapped off. The HB sounds good.

Good things to cook in a George Foreman grill?

I bet it would work with refrigererated slices too. The trouble with my method is you need to judge it just right, otherwise you can end up with a spot that didn't get hot enough.
