Corned Beef hash...from a can. Preferred brands?

The pans crisp everything else. Its just the hash I have problems with. Although new pans are always nice! I'm going to try the non-stick that I haven't done yet.

We usually use Mary Kitchen. I'd like to know how to get it really crisp, and not stick to my pans. I've used cast iron, stainless, lots of oil, a little oil, pre-heat, not pre-heat and nothing seems to ever prevent it from sticking.

Where do you eat at the Palisades Mall?

About 2 weeks ago, they had the door open. I took a peak and there was nothing in it at all. I wonder if it is going to open or not.

All-Clad skillet cleaning suggestions wanted

Fill the pan with water and a good squirt of dish liquid. Place on a burner and let it simmer a good 10 minutes. Let it cool then clean it in the sink with a non scratching pad and some comet. Depending on how bad the pan was gunked up you may not even need comet.

John's Pizza on Bleecker

You sum it up perfectly. For me what makes Joe's stand out from other 1970 style parlors is the bite factor. When you bite into Joe's slice, the thinness of the crust, and the oils of the cheese, really feel good in my mouth. It might not be the best ever tasting pizza, however the mouth action compensates for any lack of flavor. Getting it with the fresh garlic will however perfect the taste, thereby making it a great NY slice.

Declining quality at Costco?

I go to a Costco in NY State.

Declining quality at Costco?

We used to buy the crab dip, it was recalled at some point. They got a new brand in, and it is awful! Watery, mayoy, and filled with non crab product.

John's Pizza on Bleecker

We went to John's a few times this year and each time it was consistently good. I also go around the corner to Joe's for their slice when I get the urge. It's pretty much the same too. The one thing I find that makes any pizza better is the addition of fresh garlic and having it on the well done side.

Bastille Day, July 14th: Where to dine and celebrate in greater Westchester?

While not 7/14... Piermont is having their annual Bastille Day festival on Saturday. Lot's of fun to check out.

That's good to hear. Now let's get them to change their name. I know it's kind of presumptuous for me to ask them to do this, but EVERYONE I know who knows of the business has the same feeling. It's just way to confusing.

Callahan's Norwood NJ

There was a place in Linden, Father & Son, they had the chili I loved. It's grainy not saucy, more dry than wet. Yes, a hint of nutmeg/cinnamon. Would love to find a good recipe for it.

Went the other day. Enjoyed the taste of the hotdog, and the spicy onions were super. I hadn't been to the Callahan's in Ft. Lee in at least 25 years. We were living out of the area. Question - I didn't care for the chili on my visit it was a rough ground burgery texture. I remember other hotdog places having the really finely ground chili, almost a sauce but not quite. Where can I find that style of chili dog these days? Also - chopped raw onions should be complimentary along with the relish, but they were not.

Swad-- Good Indian in Tappan

I enjoyed it. The menu pricing is very high if you are not going for lunch. They had a great spicy hot sauce that I put on the chicken kabob I ordered. The shrimp dish was a bit blank. The staff are really nice and helpful.

I went back last Friday. Pretty much the same experience. This time they had signs on pretty much all of the hot food. It was a Friday night, prime dinner time, 7:30. The place was pretty empty, very slow. I still think if they change the name and direction of the promotion people would come. Also lower the price by a few dollars, that too would help.

Turkey Bacon - Extra Crispy?

I still follow it! My latest is the Oscar Meyer uncured turkey bacon. I microwaved it too. Came out crispy, but a bit leathery. Also I found if I chop it up and fry it, for recipes like potato skins, anything that needs bacon bits, frying works best.

I went to see him at a William and Sonoma book signing and he was very standoffish. I like to think he was just having a bad day.

So funny you should mention lobster bisque ZH. The night I went to Bon Fahyr they had it. Their Asian soups were much better. It was just so so and if I recall it seemed overheated, and not really smooth like it should be.
yogi - I posted a review on Yelp too, pretty much stating my experience noted above. For a buffet it's 4 stars in comparison to less expensive similar Chinese buffets. I just hope they change the name and modernize it. Without doing that I think they are destined to bring in the amount of patrons they need to keep the place going.

The BBQ wasn't on a steam table it was served by a chef in the back off of a carving board.

They have a FB page. I sent a message regarding the name change, and the fact they did not have any name tags on their hot food selections. Here is the response... "Thanks for your recent visit and the valuable comment. We keep trying to post tags on every food but the menu varies so frankly it's quite like a burden to catch-up everyday. Anyway I agree with you that all foods must have tags and we'll try our best to do it." They also said they would pass on my name change recommendation to management. I would think they could come up with some system to have laminated tags made for the most common dishes that are not clearly identifiable. My husband eats fish, but no meat or poultry, tags or some other mechanism would really help out.

I posted this on the NY State board, but it's 2 feet away from the NJ border and I think it could be a good place eventually. The name is a problem. They should change it to something simple, like seafood/sushi/bbq buffet. No one knows what the heck it is if you go by the name alone. I'm planning to return this weekend to give it another try Here's my repost:
Went to check it out on Friday. It's a decent buffet a step up from something like the Hard WoK Buffet. Decent sashimi, sushi, cold snow crab claws, given I can eat a ton of these items, I think at $32/pp it was priced accordingly. The hot items were not as good. I did enjoy the soup, miso, udon, and the cold soba noodles. The BBQ was ok too I had 1 rib, and a piece of the brisket. The end cut of the brisket was really fatty, I like it like that, most people may not. Desserts were lacking, ice cream, a chocolate fountain, fresh fruit and what looked like Pepperidge Farm cookies.

Best cheap buffets?

On the border of Northvale NJ in Tappan NY is the new Bon Fahyr Buffet. I posted about it on the NY board. It's similar to Minado, but it does focus a bit more on BBQ. It's Korean owned. It is similar in price to Minado. If you are into sushi, I'd recommend it to you, but if you just like the BBQ there may not be enough assortment for you. Here's what I said on the NY board. ---Went to check it out on Friday. It's a decent buffet a step up from something like the Hard WoK Buffet. The one big complaint - there were no signs on the hot food so if you did not know what you would be eating and not all were discernible enough to figure it out. I will go back on Mother's Day to give it another try. Will report back if I go.

Cheesecake factory

I really like their carrot cake more than the cheesecake.

Cheesecake factory

The have a great happy hour. Stiff cocktails are $5, and they have a list of full size appetizers for $5-6, the nachos are really good, we also get the grilled artichoke, and summer rolls. I like the buffalo blasts too. Such a great deal. Worth checking out. If you treat it as the chain it is you won't be going in with high expectations, and leave happy.

I'm disappointed, about the cost of the hot dog, even a 12" shouldn't be $4.25. I hope onions and kraut are at least considered a condiment, and not a topping ea. .75. Then again the Filling Station, on 9W gets 4.50 for a smaller dog... We were at the Windmill in Long Branch over the weekend, I don't recall the price on their dogs, but don't think they were that expensive, and they are about the same in size. Oh well, frequent visits will not be an option with my family. Better for my waistline.
