Some questions for my NJ friends about our home board...

I see this on the New York State Board. I've been around CH since 1999 and it's not the same, there is still good information to be found, just not at much discussion about local establishments. Over the years the boards have become more of a place for people posting questions rather than contributing new places or dishes to try.

D'Vine Bar Sparkill

Had a really great meal with friends here. Started with a pizza with arugula, grape, shaved cheese , had Catalan shrimp, nice garlicky sauce with a bit of citrus, the shrimp were cooked perfectly, I've had these elsewhere as it one of my favorite dishes, and was really pleased with the fineness of the shrimp. The Greek pizza was very flavorful. I'd like a bit more lamb sausage on it, would definitely get it again. Fish of the night was also perfectly cooked. The bartender was so knowledgable. He knew exactly what I was looking for to go with my meal. Reservations are a must unless you like to do what we do, go on the early side and sit at the bar.

Ghost Pepper Wings at Popeyes

On the other hand they appear to be so mild the kids can do the same!

Ghost Pepper Wings at Popeyes

I went, but they were sold out. Ordered the regular spicy wings, but they were super bland.

Ghost Pepper Wings at Popeyes

Wondering if anyone has tried the Ghost Pepper Wings at Popeye's. I'm planning to, but would like some comments on the spicing.

Dinner Party Additions & a Roast

I'm going to have to save this for a future party. The list has expanded to 36+! Going to cook margarita marinated chicken fajitas. Serve those with little tortillas, and the rest of the stuff you usually get with fajitas. I can grill them on the grill, and free up the oven! Thanks for all of the great suggestions.

Dinner Party Additions & a Roast

My Dh decided to have a NYE Dinner party. It's grown to 23 friends! For the main buffet courses I'm cooking roasted vegetable lasagna, spinach pie, and I'd like to make some kind of a roast, aside. From pork, what else is big enough to make, and under 40.00? How many lbs? Not everyone eats meat but I want to be sure there is enough for all. Anything else missing? I'm making a 2 different salads too.

What is your favorite tomato/marinara sauce in a jar?

Watch for sales. I just bought 4 bottles at shop rite on sale 3.99 each. I'd never buy it at full price. Victorria brand is good too. I usually look at the ingredients, if it has what I make in my own sauce I buy it.

DEVILED EGGS! Home Cooking Dish of the Month (December 2014)

I just made these as an appetizer for Thanksgiving. I used "inexpensive" black lumpfish caviar as a topping. Basic eggs, just mixed with a few dashes of Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and mayo.

Thanksgiving/Festive Recipe for CostCo Boneless Leg of Lamb?

I served a leg of lamb last Thanksgiving. I also marinated it in olive oil, oregano, rosemary, salt and thyme. I took a thin sharp knife and studded it with chunks of garlic. Baked it in the oven until it hit your right degree of temp. It was delicious! Served it with the usual Thanksgiving trimmings, stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce etc.

Any Thoughts on The Hamilton Beach Stovetop Safe Slow Cooker?

My comment was in reference to my last slow cooker it had hotspots and would heat up too fast. This seems to be an issue with a few models and one that I don't want again. If you can recommend a good one let me know.

Any Thoughts on The Hamilton Beach Stovetop Safe Slow Cooker?

That's a good point I've given up on non stick cookware. The hotspots frustrated me the most.

Any Thoughts on The Hamilton Beach Stovetop Safe Slow Cooker?

This model sounds like the one I would like due to the fact you can truly cook the meal in one pot. You can use the insert for browning your meats right on your stovetop without having to use another pot.
I had a crockpot brand which was disappointing. It had hotspots and the handle snapped off. The HB sounds good.

Good things to cook in a George Foreman grill?

I bet it would work with refrigererated slices too. The trouble with my method is you need to judge it just right, otherwise you can end up with a spot that didn't get hot enough.

Good things to cook in a George Foreman grill?

Another trick - take 2 slices of leftover pizza that you've frozen, sandwich them together cheese to cheese, place on a well oiled grill, and close it up cook until gooey. A tasty treat, great with a beer.

Good things to cook in a George Foreman grill?

My favorite thing to grill is a whole fish. Just big enough to fit on the grill, like a branzino or trout. I usually season the branzio with lots of EVO, fresh herbs, lemon and a sprinkle of salt, & pepper. Please the fish on the well heated grill, close and cook for 10-15 min. We like our fish to have a crisp skin so we may keep it on a little longer. You must really grease up the fish and the grill, otherwise it can stick. It turns out delicious!

How do you keep low-fat sour cream "creamy"

I've tried many low fat SC's and find Daisy is the best of the lot. I don't even miss the full fat version.

Spirito's -- Elizabeth

I've been searching for the ravioli recipe since H.S. and I can't figure out how they are so light, yet the dough has a nice chew, and the cheese is so creamy but yet still firm. A mystery I want to crack!

Where do you eat at the Palisades Mall?

We just go there for happy hour. They have a bunch of appetizers that are 1/2 price. It's especially good for us, since my DH doesn't eat meat they have a non-meat protein choice. So he can have his "wings" and we can have our real wings, we also usually get their take on kung po fried squid, & nachos. Add good beer at a good discount, it's a really good deal.

Popeye's

Ok - then how are we supposed to know if they don't have the same hours to begin with and we have no clue where you are :)? I 2nd John's reply, or go to their site and look at the location finder store hours section. To make it easier, go here, and you may get some coupons too. http://popeyes.com/find-a-popeyes/?co...

Rockland County suggestion wanted...

Aside from O'lar (my personal favorite), for everyday meals we often go to Baileys We like their fried catfish, corn soufflé, potato skins, ribs & they have a good special, I think it's 25.00 you get a pizza (it's ok),wings + a pitcher of beer (you can upgrade to a good craft beer for about 3.00 extra, My other longtime favorite is Greek Village in Northvale which will soon be moving to a new location, same street, in the new Shoprite Liquor strip mall. For Chinese, the only place I found that I truly like is Fortune Garden in Nanuet on 59 across from Red Lobster.

ISO Perfect Flakey Buttery Pie Crust Tried & True On Line Link For A Contest

I looked at those here, took some of the recommendations within, but took most from one not here, the smitten kitchen pie crust. The pie I entered was - Apple Pie with bourbon vanilla
soaked figs, and a cheddar crust & crumb topping.

ISO Perfect Flakey Buttery Pie Crust Tried & True On Line Link For A Contest

I've made one pie crust in my life it was so bad I never attempted one again. So I always resort to frozen. Now I am going to challenge myself to create the perfect crust for an apple pie that I plan to enter into a local contest(everything must be homemade). If all goes well of course!. I'm going to make 2 pies, so I can taste one before I enter the other. Is there a trusted recipe on line that you can recommend that always comes out perfect?
