Last Minute Wedding Cake Planning
In the last minute I hav been asked to coordinate the wedding cake for a wedding at the end of September. I'm not looking for anything too fancy. Simple and elegant. I'm also hoping not to pay a fortune for something that a lot of older (predominantly asian) guests won't even really eat. I'm thinking of starting with bakerys in the LA area so that the delivery cost will be reasonable, but I guess at this point I'm open to anything and everything!
Going to Hawaii (Kauai)
On the Poipu area there is a restaurant called Duke's with a very big "Live Aloha" spirit. It's a sister restaurant to Maui's famous Kimo's (which is my most favorite restaurant in Maui) but much more casual. I might also suggest Roy's. It's a bit more expensive but a lot more romantic than Dukes. Roy's has a few restaurants on the mainland but the Kauai location is the original.
Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead?
I love the Belgian Waffle Works right on the water of Lake Arrowhead.Everytime I go I have to stop and have breakfast there a couple of times. YUMMM!
Santa Barbara: Fun Like the Palace but not the Palace
Chad's great! Do they still do the "Flip for your dinner" Tuesdays? You've got a 50/50 chance of getting your great meal for free. Worth a shot. :)
I might also suggest Chef Karim's. Great Moroccan food and very fun atmosphere.
Great Restaurants in the Desert?
I would suggest you hit downtown before you hit a restaurant in the hotel. It wasn't really anything to write home about...and downtown palm springs has a great feel to it. :)
Weekend in SLO and Lompoc
If you're looking for an experience with breakfast, Solvang is a quick drive from Lompoc. There are a lot of great danish places or sit-down restaurants. The shops are also way fun. You can also hit a winery or two if you're interested.
San Luis Obispo...HELP!
I had one of the best tri-tip sandwiches in SLO and I don't remember the name of the restaurant. It's a local favorite and no frills dining, but great food and fast service. :)
Reception Dinner for 50 in Santa Barbara
I would ditto the suggestion of Fresco's at the Beach. It's very classy and the restauarnt has glass walls to see the ocean. The food is fabulous and leave room for dessert. :) It's also reasonably priced. If it's a rehearsal dinner, save some money for the honeymoon. :)
Hipster Eats in SB
I lived in SB for the past few years, so I would suggest a few places to eat. You might also want to check out http://www.santabarbara.com for some additional recommendations.
1. The Wine Cask (if you can afford it)
2. Intermezzo (it's a great alternative to The Wine Cask)
3. Arigato isn't the greatest sushi I've ever had, but they do a lot of Asian Fusion sushi, which is cool. They do a Kobe Beef Nigiri, which is absolute bomb. And if you make friends with your sushi chef they'll make suggestions and even give you a free piece or two. :)
4. Tubelo Junction is a great new southern restaurant. They do the classic fried green tomatoes and fried chicken with a bit of californian flair. On some nights they also have a blues band. Definitely worth the check-out.
5. If you absolutely want to splurge and money is no option then i would suggest brunch at the Four Season. It'll cost you about $60 for the champagne brunch, but I have to say sooooo worth it.
6. The Palace Grill is another Cajun place...which prides itself for its customer service, which is usually the case. The food is amazing (definitely try the chocolate soufle). You will absolutely need reservations though.
7. Chef Karim's is a Moroccan restaurant, and expect to be there for a while because this isn't just dinner. I's an experince. It's a 4-5 course meal, which includes a belly dancer. It's a great environment. I've been there several times (once for a banquet) and the food is always amazing!
