What Are Your Irrefutable Food Rules? [moved from Not About Food]
+1. Magarine is the best choice for buffalo wings.
Manchurian Legends? [London]
Those chili dusted lamb skewers (if similar to the ones I used to "house" in Flushing) will be on my list when I head to ML in 2 weeks.
Let us know how it goes.

Buffalo Wings
Bingo. Even the vaunted MeatEasy people fail epically at making wings. Do it yourself. It will be better.

Moving to London - Where to live for a die-hard foodie?
I'll throw my lot in for London Bridge/Borough, since that's where I live. Here too is a vibrant (though debated) market scene with Borough Market, Bermondsey Market and Maltby Street Market making the shortlist
Bermondsey street has a small but interesting mix of places and it is growing with the additions of Jose and Zucca. There is some nicer dining as well, with Magdalen being my favorite in the hood.
There is a nice set of interesting bars, from The Rake (good mix of beers) to the Gladstone (hipster, roackability fun) to Village East (NY-like EV bar).
It is also close to the excellent East London places PJ lists as well as being central to most else (20 min to Chinatown, 20 min to Spitalfields, 25 min to Edgeware road for Lebanese, 25 min to excellent Pakistani grills, etc).
I used to work on the Strand and it was a pleasant 25-30 min walk in. Otherwise a 15 min tube ride.
Easy to get a nice 1 bed for your budget, including some interesting warehouse conversions.

Blacked works well.
Mahi Mahi is also great as the primary ingredient in fish tacos.

What's the point of Borough Market? [London]
Exactly. I think it is time to get out the stationary and get seriously old skool on these truestee fools.
Despite my poetic waxings above, a fully functioning Maltby alternative would be very welcome.
What's the point of Borough Market? [London]
Good question. This ruling might push Maltby past the tipping point of a cool diversion to a bonefide market area operating on multiple days.

Update, the "trustees" are at it again. My favorite cheese monger (Mons) and others are being booted for having stalls in the nearby Maltby St. What a joke.

Unusual things to grill
+++ to stone fruits. Five spice peaches with vanilla ice cream is great. Make sure to lightly sugar them to accentuate the grill mark char.
+++ to lettuces as well. Romaine, endive, radiccio
Other ideas:
- whole sardines
- plank roasted salmon. Great gentle smokiness.
- grape tomatos work great.
- pork belly slices to make bo saam. Need to pre-cook the cook belly in the oven, but the resulting product is worth it.
- Butterflied leg of lamb
- Split lobster with curry butter

Sorry, as you can see I was not commenting on the quality of Maltby/Bermondsey, I was commenting on the choice. I agree that the "lamb lady" in Maltby and the fish monger in Bermondsey have excellent quality, but the choice leaves a bit to be desired.
It's sad that you had a bad experience at GP. They had a lot of turnover there when Barbecoa opened and it showed in the service. If you had spoken to Charlie at the shop (or called in to the head office), they would have been disappointed that you felt that way.
It's important to note that you CAN stroll at 10:00 (as I did last Saturday) through Borough quite easily and enjoy the experience. All that said, I imagine however that it really depends on what you are looking for. If you want that niche experience of Maltby/Bermondsey, these choices are best for you and we should agree to disagree.

What's the point of Borough Market? [London]
Though the vibe and "newness" of Maltby/Druid is nice (especially when coupled with Bermondsey), it's honestly not the same. Case in point, there are 3 fish mongers at Borough, 1 at Bermondsey. Ginger Pig, Northfield, Windham, etc are such great meat suppliers, again giving choice. I can be more sure to get what I want when I head to Borough. Laziley, it is also 1/4 the walk for me.
I hear you though. The idea of Borough is great and there are many times when it's popularity is it's own enemy. Worse, the Board is frankly ruining it. Think of Booths being forecd out, what a loss to the market! That said, if you take time to figure it out, get to know the vendors and go at the right times, it is a magical place.

I know it's a regular past time on the boards to whinge about Borough. I'll stand up for it, though my circumstances (I live 5 minutes away) may make my experience better than the one you can get.
Borough is a hood pretty devoid of any redeaming local food shopping. The local supermarkets are rubbish and they don't care. Borough is the antithesis of this. There is a ton of caring about one's product in the market and it shows in what you get.
I usually rock into the market at around 10 on a Saturday. There are people about, but not tons. Just enough to make it lively. Though I usually know what I want and who I want to get it from, the crowds are such that I can wander and browse if I choose. At that time the traders still have their full set of wares out (they run out of stuff later) and the selection is great.
I do find myself at the market at "nightmare hour" 12-1 on a Saturday too. I know it's going to be busy, so I just take my time and get what I need. Is it a quiet, lovely market experience where one can have an animated and long-winded chat with an artisan cheese maker? Not as much. Do I still enjoy going? Damn straight.
For me, the point of Borough is that it is one of the single best food markets I have had the chance to go to and I love that it is my local. Has it been dumbed down in recent years by the inclusion of touristy crap? Yep! Are there lots of crowds stuffing their faces on free samples and blocking the walkways? Absolutely. Do I still love it for the produce, meats, fish and speciality goods? Always.

Their shop/restau in Pimlico is casual, low key and has inexpensive tasty food. Decent wine list too. Bookings are usually a good idea.

Great meal near Picadilly undergroud line (London)?
Sorry, I was responding to your sushi comment.
If you can get a reservation, Dinings would fit your requirements of a mixed sushi and cooked items meal.

It is a bit out of the way from the Piccadilly line, but it is close to two lines which go to Baker Street. Honestly, it's an easy journey for anyone.

FIVE DAYS IN LONDON WITH TEENAGE BOYS - HELP!!!
Second the Tayyabs and Needoo recommendation! Great experience.
For fish and chips, skip Rock and Sole and head to Masters. Much better. If you need a second F&C choices, Golden Hind.
For me, the interesting Chinese in London now is delivered as part of the surge in Hunan and Sichuan choices. Golden Day gets my vote for the former style. Mmm, spicy, salty, smoky. It just hits all the right notes.
I would also suggest considering Lebanese or Iranian. Ishbilia (Leabnese) or Mohsen (Iranian) are not horrifically far from where you are staying.

Favorite Gastropub in Central London?
And it is a great place as well. Also, unlike the Eagle and Anchor and Hope (same owners as 32 Great Queen St BTW), you can book a table.
Delhi Grill in Islington [London]
I expected to have flavorful, punchy food which I consistently get at their competitors. If they couldn't deliver on that then its not a failure of my expectations but a failure of their execution.
Aberaeron - west Wales
Harbourmaster is the way to go for both. Had an excellent grilled lobster as well as an amazing lamb dish when we stayed there. Rooms were very nice too.
Delhi Grill in Islington [London]
My recent trip was maddingly inconsistent.
Lamb chops were poorly seasoned, I mean my non-adventurous, doesn't like spicy food Mom would have found them bland. No char either.
Bhindi was excellent. Best of what we ordered. Tarka dhal was good too.
Wings, sheekhs, tandoori paneer were all so-so. Nothing that great.
Rogan gosht was very good.
I like the vibe and location, but couldn't go back based on the above. Was it an off night?

Dumpling's Legend [London]
Agreed. I was very disappointed with my meal there.
I have heard that the only thing worth getting is the crab congee. It's apparently a massive, steaming bowl of congee filled with generous hunks of fresh crab.
