HELP: Beard Papa's in Seattle? What and where?

I'm a huge fan of Beard Papa's but I'm very confused about their locations? I've been going to their locations throughout California for a long time now but recently moved to Portland, OR.

However, while visiting the Los Angeles locations I read a newspaper add that they had in the window about their Seattle location and how great business was. I was excited that I still had one within driving distance after I moved back up north.

Sadly though I can't find an address or even proof of it's existence! I've checked on their offical website which has no location listed for the Northwest. I've done searches via google for their location and yellowpages.com.

I'm wondering if this was just a temporary visit or if this was a planned location and I just read the article wrong. Still I could have sworn (and my wife as well) that the article did say one existed in Seattle.

For those that don't know Beard Papa's is a Japanese cream puff that has taken the country by storm ever since they started appearing in California, Hawaii and New York. Sometimes you have to wait 30 mins in line just to get one. They are truly amazing and something you shouldn't miss out on if you are given a chance.

If anyone has an address I would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much!

Best Chicago Style Pizza and Italian Beef

well I'm trying to decide if Masa is worth the visit... so many people rave and hate it and I can't really figure out why.

Best Chicago Style Pizza and Italian Beef

I thought I heard that Masa in Echo Park was the best Chicago style pizza in LA... any thoughts on that place? Anyone?

Chicken Fried Steak

I've actually had the chili's one and it's also pretty good. In some respects prolly better then Panns. I actually find the best chicken fried steak is Alton Brown's recipe on the show Good Eats. My wife can make it exactly the same and it's the best CFS I've ever had. Getting her to make it is another thing (unhealthy as she puts it. lol)

Best Burger musing in latest Portland Magazine

I'm still looking for the best burger in Portland. It's not burgerville and it's not Henrys (OMG could their bun be any thicker and more tough).

Anyone have some ideas? I love a good 1/3, very juicy, a little pink.. nice soft bun, maybe a good slab of tilamook cheese?

I need a new burrito in my life. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking about eating at this place sometime in the next week... can you give me an idea of whats in their burrito? I'm a big fan of just the classic meat, beans, cheese, sour cream, tomato, lettuce etc... is this that sort of place?

By the way.. I hate rice in my burritos... just fillar to me.

Tito's Tacos - What's the Big Deal??

I'll admit the first time I had it was on a film shoot after it sat for about 30 mins. I found it greasy but yet really tasty. Maybe I was just tired. Then I went there and got it fresh but it was awful.

For some reason I went back, maybe it was the cheap eats or the line drew me in. It tasted better and it got better and better each time I went. My wife and I love it.. it's quick, easy, cheap and you get a ton of food for the price. The meat is beyond tender and I've never felt a bit of chewy fat. The cheese is piled high and fresh (like Taco Bell cheese was in the early 80's).

Overall it's something that grows on you and it's a great place to feed a family. It's also great to go if you've had a few drinks and it's late. lol

Chicken Fried Steak

I tried Pann's this weekend because I was craving a great CFS, and it was good.. but it wasn't amazing. It tasted very homemade but I felt the gravy lacked a little flavor. Also a little spendy at $13.

Oh well, still good.. but not fantastic by any means. Though I would eat it again so what does that say about me? lol

The Best Sandwich (Sub, Hero, Grinder, Bomber, Po'Boy)

BAY CITIES... by far the best sandwhich I've ever had. The Cuban Deli in Glendale (name escapes me at the moment) also very good.

Pink Taco (Century City)

The Carne Asada Taco's are really excellent... the meat is so, SO tender and you get a lot of food for the price.

As for the rest... well I thought the chips and salsa was really good and the rice was also tasty but the beans just didn't do it for me. I did not enjoy the lime flavor they seem to add to the beans.

I know the waiter told us they were still working out the kinks in the food and menu and it somewhat showed. Still my wife and I were very surprised how good the food really was. It does look like Hard Rock but tastes a lot better then that place. I'd recommend it.

Best $10-15 places to eat in Portland or higher?

La Calaca seems right up my wife and I's alley.

It's not that were looking for dirt cheap food, but we aren't looking for a place that costs $30-40 per person. We are looking for those 2-3 nights a week that we can go out and get some amazing food. We are looking for Mexican food that may have some american taste influences but not American-Mexican food. (if that makes any sense at all. lol)

That mexican place really looks great so we'll check it out. We can't live without some good carna asada taco's once in awhile. Now if we could find some good all white meat chicken chimimchangas.. (sp?)

I agree the lack of decent Italian places in Portland. I have yet to find a place that has a great red sauce, or for that matter something as simple as a white sauce.

I also know the Chinese part will be really tough. We just love sitting down with a nice plate of spicy orange chicken and some good fried rice and maybe a few egg rolls or won tons. In fact the best orange chicken we seem to find up north is PF Changs. However it's not as cheap as some small mom and pop place.

Again that's for all these suggestions. I should be in Portland at the end of the month so I will be hitting up a lot of these places.

Chili Cook-offs??

I tried one of these today and the chili that I did taste was amazing. Oddly enough they posted all their recipes but I couldn't get a photo of it with my crappy camera. Did anyone by chance find a link? One of the guys said the recipes were supposed to be posted online.

More Mexican Grocery Stores?

I was wondering if there was a high end mexican grocery stores. I just recently went to a Vallarta and was very impressed by the selection, but also wanted to see what else was out there. I picked up quite a few local products but also saw a lot of Take-On-American products. Which I also enjoy a lot.

Any other suggestions for the LA Area. I mostly find myself on the west side, hollywood, valley areas. Anything east of the 5 I never get to.

Thanks!

Place to buy Pure Cane Sugar Pepsi? Dr Pepper?

I just went to Vallarta today and found that they do carry 7-Up, Coke, Squirt and Pepsi in their Mexican drink section. I was thrilled and bought 10 bottles for a tad under $10.

I only wish I could buy these in cases.... or 2 Liters.. =D

Thanks for the tip!

Best $10-15 places to eat in Portland or higher?

I'd say I'm more of a Mexican, Italin and basic chinese sort of fan. Again I like the more healthy approach to chinese (don't care about healthy mexican though, bring on the cheese!).

I'm always on the look out for great pizza and great burgers. I also love places that serve special sweet stuff like Cream puffs, donuts and yes crepes are good to!

Some interesting suggestions o the Pizza and BBQ. I'll have to check them out. If anyone else has any suggestions I'd love to hear it. I only wish CHOWHOUND had a full section devoted for Portlanders.

The Best Burger in LA is at Trader Joe's!

I don't know.. I mean a burger at some of my favorite places are greasy but they are also flavorful and these weren't flavorful at all, and whatever hard piece of resdue was in my burger just made me ill to the point that I couldnt' even finish it, much less look at what it was. lol

I'll keep looking but those might be it for me. Maybe I still got the wrong ones. I could have sworn they said something like Montana Legend Angus Steak Burgers. Are those the ones?

The Best Burger in LA is at Trader Joe's!

I just tried these yesterday and I'm at a loss as to what makes these so good. Maybe I didn't get the same ones? I got the 4 sealed pack ones in the meat section, 2 per pack in a vacu seal container. I thought there was something simliar in the frozen section but I couldn't find those.

Anyway I found these burgers very greasy and fairly tasteless. I ate my 2nd one today to give it another shot but my last few bites had something funky in the meat like cartilidige or something funky.

I will still prefer eating at Counter any day of the week over these. Though I will be leaving LA and moving to a place that doesn't have counter i will have to find an alternative. I have always like the Omaha steak burgers. So that's where i will have to get my gourmet burger fix as these didn't work out. Thanks for letting me know about them though. =) Maybe I really got the wrong ones. I will check the freezer section at a different TJ's to see if those show up.

L.A. Egg Salad

Okay so there are lot of rave reviews for Euro Pane... and I'm a big egg salad fan. Any clues as to what makes this one so great? I'd love to hear about it before I trek out there.

Place to buy Pure Cane Sugar Pepsi? Dr Pepper?

I went out to Beverage Warehouse today and they said they haven't carried it in months. They said it's much harder to get the mexico coke. I did pick up a few bottles of coke however, I figure I had to come away with something from the trip.

So I'm off to find another place! Thanks though

Place to buy Pure Cane Sugar Pepsi? Dr Pepper?

I was thinking the same thing about a mexican grocery store having them. Is anyone aware of one on the Westside or Valley?

I tried asking her where she got it but she didn't give me any clue as to where. Must be a secret. lol

I recently ate at a Taco Stand that was selling Pure Cane Sugar Pepsi in a bottle. It was so good I ordered 3 bottles, but at $2 a piece I was hoping there was another place I could get a few of these bad boys here in LA?

Any help would be appreciated, as always! =)

Best $10-15 places to eat in Portland or higher?

I'm looking for quite a few suggestions here. I've lived on in off in Portland the last few years but have had little to no success in finding those really great places to eat that every city should have. So, I'm moving the family back to Portland and it may be permanent. We were raised in Eugene though so we don't really know anything about the history of Portland food.

I must admit I've lived the last 8 years in Los Angeles. So I've been spoiled by some of the best healthy Chinese (all white meat), best pizza/italin (LA Monicas and C&O), best Mexican (Tito's and El Cholo), Best Burgers (The Counter, omg) best Deli (Bay City) and more (California Chicken Cafe, Beard Papas, Yummy Cupcakes)

Does anyone have suggestions in Portland? I'm sure most of you haven't eaten much in LA but maybe some of you have and you can help point me in a good direction. As you can see I've given you many examples. I've done McMineans quite a few times and the food is just okay, good in a pinch.

The problem is it seems most of Portland is just great pub food or REALLY expensive restaurants, such as stuff around the pearl district.

Any help would be fantastic!

The Counter

You guys must be the unluckiest people ever... I have eaten at the counter for a few years (give or take) and in that time I have NEVER had a dry burger. Most of the time my burgers are super juicy and running all over my hands.

I admit sometimes they fall apart, but that to isn't a bad thing. I fixed this by cutting my burger in half like a sandwhich and then eating it. I think it has something to do with how many topings you put on, or the juice soaks up in the bun and destroys it.

I had to say that the counter is prolly the best burger place I've ever eaten, and I try to enjoy it a few times a month. I would do so more if it wasn't a little pricey.
