Lunch Near Court & Main (Downtown Cincinnati)

The Butcher shop is Avril-Bleh & Sons. Its been in business for over a hundred years and still makes all their sausages in house. During the summer they put a grill out front and sell burgers and sausages in front of the store. Highly recommend a stop there. The Metts are outstanding.

Good Mexican in Cincinnati

Thought this might interest most of the people in this thread. Apparently Columbus has numerous taco trucks throughout the city. -> http://tacotruckscolumbus.com/

Anyone know of Cincinnati having any?

What can I get in Dayton, OH I can't find in LA?

Everyone has already had really great suggestions. I'll agree that you have to try Skyline. In the Cincinnati area Skyline's are like Starbucks in the rest of the country. Outside SW Ohio you'll be lucky to find anyone who's heard of the stuff.

If you find a local breakfast place odds are you'll find Goetta on the menu. Worth a try if its available. Its a mixture of ground meat and steel cut oats, sliced and cooked on the griddle.

Knife sharpening service in Columbus, OH?

Check out Louise at Sharpening on Site. She will show up at your location and sharpen your knives on site. Here's a review from the blog "The Kitchn"

Here's the web site. http://www.sharpeningonsite.com/

I bought a head of cabbage (green), now what

I'll second this. Its actually pretty good. It tastes just like peanut butter on celery. But in sandwich form. Seriously, it totally works.

(Cincy) Reasonably Priced Steak?

Dumas beat me too it so I'll second El Coyote. Great food, reasonable prices. And even though its primarily a Tex-Mex place they do steaks very well.

Good Mexican in Cincinnati

I'll second La Mexicana. Try the goat meat tacos. Here's a link to a review with more details: http://winemedinemecincinnati.com/?p=629

You might also want to try Taqueria, which although I have not been to, its been put on my "to-visit" list via this review I found: http://whatiatethisweek.com/blog/?p=53

Jeff Ruby - Bootsy's (Cincinnati)

I haven't but I came across this blog post talking about it ->. http://whatiatethisweek.com/blog/?p=93#comments

Please recommend knife sharpening service in Cleveland, OH area?

Try calling around some of the nicer restaurants in the area and asking if they know of anyone. You might also look at a mail in service. There's a guy in Columbus that's supposed to be good. Check out http://www.theknifeguy.com/

What online stores do you use for cookware purchases?

I've used http://www.bigtray.com/ a few times before and found their prices to be great and their customer service was very helpful when an Item arrived damaged. They're an online resetaurant supply store so they're more geared toward someone ordering 40 half sheet pans, but they'll also ship individual items. I've had nothing but good experience with them and they're the first site I check before I buy something.

Northern Illinois University/Dekalb, IL ?

Its been a few years since I've lived near there, but here's what I remember: The Junction is a good diner. Excellent late night dining, really good milkshakes. I would also recommend Pizza Villa for thin crust bar-style pizza. Get the beer nuggets (fried dough to dip in pizza sauce) too.

Both the Junction and Pizza villa are right on Rt 38 on the West end of town. You can't miss them.

Pork Tenderloin Sandwich in Cincinnati

Thanks much for the info. That looks like a nice place. I will definitely try to find an excuse to make it up to Ross.

Dining in Downtown Cincinnati

Everyone has excellent suggestions. In addition to those, I'll offer some suggestions that aren't exactly fine dining, but are worth a lunch trip. Tom's Pot Pies is a great place to try -> http://www.tomspies.com/ The name pretty much says it all. The Alabama Fish bar is a great carry-out only fish counter. Its not in the best of neighborhoods but I've never had any problems when I've gone there.

Pork Tenderloin Sandwich in Cincinnati

Is Cincinnati totally devoid of breaded pork tenderloin? Come on chowhound, forget good or okay, I'll settle for anything flat breaded and fried that overhangs the bun.

Pork Tenderloin Sandwich in Cincinnati

Does anyone know where I can find a good tenderloin sandwich in Cincinnati? I'm speaking of course of the thin breaded and fried variety. I'd really settle for just an okay tenderloin sandwich, since I really haven't seen them on too many menus. Bonus points if its on the east side

Thanks

Cincinnati Chili

If you mean the 24-hour place on Madison, no it closed awhile ago.

Cincinnati area - good Italian sausage?

You might try Avril Bleh and Sons downtown. There were voted best butcher by Cincinnati Magazine, and have been around for quite awhile. Good Luck!

Cucumber Cocktails?

I'll take it *slightly* bruised

Evan Williams

Here are the "bang for the buck" entries I would vote for:

Buffalo Trace Straight Bourbon -> $20
Eagle Rare Single Barrel -> $25
Old Rip Van Windle 10 Year -> $25.

A great place to search for spirit reviews is the Beverage Tasting Institute at http://tastings.com. The above were among the well reviewed there that I've tried

Sushi in downtown Cincinnati

Is there anywhere downtown for sushi in Cincinnati? I've asked around quite a bit and no one seems to know of any place.

Visiting Cincinnati - where should I go?

In addition to all the advice you've been given, let me add Bella Luna just south of Hyde Park on Eastern Ave. Its great, reasonably priced Italian food, and their bread pudding with a butter amaretto sauce is probably among the top 5 foods I have ever eaten. Seriously worth a visit.

Northern Illinois birthday ideas--not Chicago

Its been a few years, but I like Maxson Manor. The food won't blow you away, but the view is nice and Oregon is a quaint town. If you go there you might consider stopping off afterward at Jay's drive-in on the East end of town for a rootbeer float
