Oyster Rookie

I did it on my own the first time without damage but George from Hog Island carefully showed me how to do it. I am still the slowest shucker in the world.

Where to buy nama age deep fried tofu in Berkeley?

I amy be totally out of line here, but Hodo sells a cube of tofu about 3x3 that is brown in color that is not flavored like the five spice and curry cubes that are smaller. I do not know what it is called but I have seen people buy it describing it as a brown cube, to use in stir fry.

Does anyone know what happened to a shop (that made chocolates and flourless cakes w/ incredible butter cream), which was called "Cocolat," or something similar to that?

yes, Trumpetvine Court was where I first had it.

Fresh Turkish Delight near San Mateo, CA

I have seen Turkish Delight at the Pasta Shop in Oakland and Berkeley. I don't consume this sort of thing so have not tasted.

What's with the irrelevant photos in the "recommended" section?

A bowl of chicken noodle soup also illustrates the buttermilk fried chicken recipe--FAIL

Cal professors on the hunt for edible, nutritious East Bay weeds

To get enough ripe blackberries for one pie with enough for you to stuff yourself at the same time can probably decimate a good stand and if there is more than one of you, trouble.

Where to buy whole, dried Piment d'Espelette?

Besides Tierra, Annabelle of La Tercera also sells them. If my Little French Kitchen requires whole chilis, the first thing she does with them is chop them into small pieces.

Oakland (Temescal): Barlata ... or ... B44 East

When we went in September, we got the impression that it would stay open as long as it was making money, but I don't know if that was an accurate impression.

site forgetting "read" posts

This is a royal pain. I read 90% of the stuff in the past that was shown as new. It is a continuous problem. Why can't it work half as well as it used to. Read the complaints.

Champa Garden (Oakland) report

A very long time ago, I had salmon in a banana leaf with ginger, chili, cilantro and fish sauce and other things at Plearn when it was in the early days of it's original place on University. It was excellent. I am pretty sure I had no concept of flavor profiles or anything else that sophisticated. I just knew it tasted good.

local source for pickling crock weights?

I have successfully used a mason jar full of water on a plate. I have never done a small crock. Specifically a corian plate, although glass would work. I have also used a corked bottle of water.
