Where to buy seafood?
You should try the smoked salmon at Pure Fish and then report back. Although I'm not the one who said it originally, I feel confident in calling it the best - based on the comments I've received from the people I've introduced it to over the years.
Visiting my daughter and need advice
Besides the Fairmont, the Sorrento Hotel also does Afternoon Tea. I haven't been, but I've heard good things about it.
Oyster lover needs help
We had some Penn Cove oysters yesterday and, while they weren't at their very best, they were still quite good.
NY Foodie Looking For 1 Awesome Meal in Seattle
I agree with terrier on both in city and outside the city suggestions and would add Walrus and the Carpenter to the in city list.
NY Foodie Looking For 1 Awesome Meal in Seattle
I've liked Canlis at my last two dinners there but I ordered the tasting menu. I talked to two different friends who have eaten there with in the last six months, both ordering off the regular menu, and their experiences weren't nearly as good.
Best hotel to stay at for a Ballard Crawl?
I've never stayed at Hotel Ballard either but I had a nasty run in with the owner right before they opened. We were having brunch across the street at Bastille and wandered over to check it out. They were getting ready for on open house later in the afternoon and the door was open with some workers milling about. We went in to ask some questions, pricing, etc. and were looking around when the owner came in from outside bellowing about how we were trespassing etc. etc. We explained we just wanted to support his business and wanted some additional information and he continued to scream at us, telling us we were disrespectful, etc. I would avoid the place if possible.
San Francisco Hound Coming to Seattle: Please Critique My List for the Emerald City!!!
Crumble & Flake did open this weekend but they are not open on Mondays.
SEA Here we come
I also like Toulouse Petit. It's fun and your son will probably love it. I've had two great meals at Coterie Room but if you aren't sure about it, maybe check out Spur - owned by the same folks.
SEA Here we come
You can get Salumi products at DeLaurenti, and you can also get cheeses, bread, etc. at DeLaurenti. And it's close to where they are staying. I wouldn't switch them out.
SEA Here we come
It looks like a great itinerary. Regarding Saturday lunch: Quinn's doesn't open until 3 PM and Terra Plata serves only brunch on Saturday's. You might want to fill in with some other things. Ba Bar and Cafe Press come to mind.
Crushed Ice for Mint Juleps?
The ice that you find bagged at the grocery store is going to be too large for mint juleps. I bought a really cool one at antique mall a few years ago. Short of that, you can wrap the ice in a towel and pound it with a mallet, rolling pin, meat tenderizer, etc.
restaurant near the marriott courtyard lake union
Matt's in the Market would be a good choice. He could sit at the bar and look over the market.
restaurant near the marriott courtyard lake union
Around a mile South is Barolo. It's Italian with a cool atmosphere.
How did I do with my dinner plans? (and a couple other questions.)
IMO, Etta's is the least "bang for the buck" of the TD restaurants. Everything seems to be a good $5 more than it needs to be. I would switch it out for Joule. It's not downtown but it will give good diversity to your dinner choices.
Staff Appreciatioin Lunch--Maximilien's or Pink Door or?
I would pick Place Pigalle over Maximilien's.
San Francisco Hound Coming to Seattle: Please Critique My List for the Emerald City!!!
I don't think Zig Zag has gone down hill, I just think Canon is firing on all cylinders (hahaha). Murray is there now, they have a great collection of antique barware, the cocktails are fantastic and their collection of liquor is greater than others in town.
Chef Robertson is fantastic. If C & F is open when you are here, be sure to try is kouign amann and canalés.
San Francisco Hound Coming to Seattle: Please Critique My List for the Emerald City!!!
That's a good list that you put together.
I like both Walrus and Carpenter and Staple & Fancy but they are in the same building and there's even a window between them so I'd probably not go to both, just so you can get a feel for different locations.
For snacks, as others have said, skip Molly Moon's. There's a chance that Crumble and Flake will be open by the time you are here. If so, you'll absolutely want to go there. http://www.crumbleandflake.com/
For cocktails, since you've only got three nights - your list is perfect but each of those places is quite different from each other. I'd sub Canon for Zig Zag these days.
What to eat for a first-timer to Seattle?
I agree. Molly Moon is not good and I would add Fainting Goat to ntbS's list.
Seattle Report - April 2012
Wow - great write up. I'm headed to Copperleaf for the first time in a couple of weeks. I hope they still have cauliflower soup on the menu.
Dim sum in Seattle
Tea Garden was really good when I was there a couple of weeks ago. I used to love Purple Dot but it seemed to have gone downhill.
Seattle (and Bothell/Woodinville) Trip Report - long
Thanks for the great write up. You hit all the great spots in Woodinville.
Costco for Restaurant Supplies [split from Chains]
Costco carries Vita Mix? I've been shopping around for one and this is a great reason to head to one with a business center.
Seattle near Hotel Andra - family with elderly folk
Ahem - I believe *I* recommended Assiago! LOL
Weds thru Fri dinner, solo diner
I would head up to Canon. It's not a restaurant but a great cocktail bar serving good food.
Or Anchovies and Olives. Great seafood and wine with decent cocktails.
Seattle near Hotel Andra - family with elderly folk
Assaggio in your hotel is quite nice. I hadn't been in years and then met some friends for drinks a couple of weeks ago. The bar area was lovely and the drinks and food were very good. But the service was the best part. They really know how to make you feel good.
Cool bar for a drink with some buddy's? Rob Roy? Tavern law? Brave horse?
I love the cocktails at Rob Roy but there's no food to speak of. Brave Horse is known more for beer than cocktails. I like Tavern Law and I understand they have good food but I've never eaten there.
If it were me, I would go to Canon. The cocktails are fantastic and all the food I've had has been really good.
Lunch to go between the west side and the east side?
Goldberg's Deli is there at Factoria. Yea's Wok used to be a favorite of folks here. It's also in the same area.
