Store to buy British candy bars?

NO idea if these are the British imports or made-for-America but the 4th floor pharmacy at the Rush professional building has Flake, Crunchie, etc. from Cadbury. It's in the 1700 block of W. Harrison. That's near the Pink Line Polk and Blue line Medical District stops.

Chicago farmer's markets

The Green City Market has several vendors selling prepared on-site foods like wraps, crepes, smoothies etc. as well as baked goods and cheese.

Funny, I'd think of the Publican for more meat options than veggie long before the other two :)

20 librarians in search of a bar

I'd try for a restaurant that serves alcohol and takes reservations, rather than a bar. Though some of them do reserve for parties as well. Give Roof a call, you never know. If you're talking about the Roof at the WIT hotel, it is THE hot place these days (where celebs who are in town go) but that doesn't mean they don't have a private area they'd reserve for you (I don't know that they do, though). The Palmer House also has some bars, or you might try Cafe Iberico. I think that's reasonably close, and it's a tapas place.

Midtown or just South of Midtown BBQ

As others have said - we do have BBQ, and it is good, but you don't think you're in Texas or KC or something.

Coconut M&M's in Chicago?

I'm pretty sure they are everywhere (like Walgreens, etc). At least, that's where I saw them.

Wine Shop

Also try Howard's on Belmont. Not as huge as Sam's, but a very good selection - fewer misses, more hits, as it were :)

Friday night, Avec or the Publican

How many people? If it's one person, I'd say whichever you prefer, but if it's 2 or more, make the reservation. I love Avec, but there will be a wait.

Good Food Near Volvo Mechanic Needed – Evanston Area

Also vouch for Hubbard Woods Volvo. When we had one that's where we took it. And yes, you def. can take the train - North or South - so any restaurant on the Metra line is open to you :)

Which Greek?

I had the greek salad (with grilled chicken) at Greek Islands about 2 weeks ago and it was very good - nothing earthshattering, but fresh and tasty. Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well (we went at lunch with about 12 people). Service was good and it was a pleasant environment.

They do it here in Chicago too. I'm NOT a fan, but other people like it.

Dinner in walking distance of Swissotel

If you want Frontera with a reservation, go for Topolobampo, Bayless' fancier restaurant, which takes reservations. It's not that much more expensive than Frontera, just go easy on the Margaritas and you should be within budget.

Suckling pig wanted

Domestic pigs are weaned somewhere in the 3 to 4 week range. Average weaning weight for piglets is right around 16 lbs. Baby pigs are vaccinated when they are approximately 10 days old or 3-4 pounds. Once vaccinated, then it is 42 days before they can be slaughtered for human consumption. The pigs are approximately 40 pounds weight or 32 pounds dressed after 42 days. Pigs no smaller than 25-30 pounds are generally available. See http://mark.asci.ncsu.edu/HealthyHogs... for a 1997 discussion of the veterinary take on pig weaning (with particular attention to variability in pig weight)

There is a nice restaurant in Hyde Park, Petite Folie. No idea if they have many veggie entrees, it's French. It's not "fine dining" but it is a nice neighborhood bistro.

Was Door County the brand, or simply the location from whence the cherries came? See this chowhound thread for discussion of where to buy cherry pies in Chicago (and note, it's not cherry season here for at least 2 months)

Yes, in the Terminal C foodcourt the only decent thing (IMHO) is the salad place, since at least you can customize what you get.

Chicago does them on the 3rd, most of the suburbs do them on the 4th. My guess is that it's a non-compete sort of thing :)

Sherry wine vs Dry white wine ... for crab or lobster?

I've used both, and you can tell a difference. Sherry gives it a fuller flavor. It's not huge, granted, but it's there. On the other hand, if you like the flavor you get from Sauv. Blanc then go ahead and use that :) (I don't use Sherry in everything, but I do for certain things - shrimp in garlic, for example, but not mussels, where I prefer Sauv. Blanc)

They use it seasonally. When they can get it, they put it on. In the winter, it's not there.

Chicago Happy Hour!!!

No - I'm not much of a Happy Hour person (and, as noted, Chicago's not much on Happy Hour due to the laws). Just happen to work nearish to United Center, and there's not too much right close around there. I do have some places I like to go get a drink and have good food/snacks, but if you're looking for bargains, I can't help you there :)

When you bring a dish...

I cringe inside, but put it out. I had a friend once (who I said to not bring anything, just yourself) bring 6 sauteed scallops. WTF? My meal was planned, all courses accounted for, and here's this interloper appetizer. So everyone got approx 2/3 of a scallop. Some people just can't help themselves. They can't imagine not bringing something, and flowers, wine or candy just won't work for them.

Chicago Happy Hour!!!

Hm, I'd think there would be more choices near the two baseball parks, not so much right around the United Center where the Bulls play (near, sure, but not nearly as near as there are pubs and such close by to the ball parks).

Also, cabs are plentiful and our public transit system is very good. Please utilize it when you plan to be drinking ;)

Where to buy Apple Wood Chips!?

As mentioned, Chicago Firewood is a great bet for chunks, which are often better than chips. I have seen Apple chips, though, at Menard's, who also have had Cherry and Maple chips, and often have hickory and mesquite chunks.

Southern California food in Chicago

I am not certain that the true Baja fish taco exists here, as such. There are some close approximations, and there are even a few outposts of Baja Fresh. But do not order fish tacos randomly at places and expect what you get in San Diego.

For bahn mi go to Argyle and Broadway and try Ba Le to start. That whole area is a good area for things like Pho, etc.

One Turkish meal in Chicago - which should I choose?

I think Turquoise has the Italian in case people are not interested in Turkish. I've never had anything from the Italian menu, though I suspect it's fine. I have had quite a few things on the Turkish menu, and it was all very good. The owner (manager?) is Turkish, and several of the staff are as well.
