What's good in Kendall/Central Sq of late?
It may not be a cheaper option, but I think that Rendezvous is one of the best spots in all of Boston.
Martignetti's is closing
What a shame. Just what Boston needs, another bank. Liquorland in the South End is closing after New Years as well. They have been open for over 40 years. A CVS is going in the space. Boston is rapidly loosing its charm and distinctiveness.
wanted: dark cozy irish pub
Matt Murphy's, Brookline Village
The Druid, Inman Sq, Cambridge
Does Don Ricardo's have live music?
I went on a recent Friday night and they did have a guitarist. It made for a very cool vibe at this South End gem.
Organic/biodynamic wineries worth visiting in Napa and Sonoma?
I second the recco fro Dry Creek Valley. A lot of great small growers doing some wonderful things in the way of organic and sustainable. Plus Healdsburg is such a great town to visit. Try Michel-Schlumberger, Preston and Quivara. Schlumberger has an amazing property and a cool "green" tour.
The Beehive - So far, not great
I agree, Adam is a very good chef. I am sure that he has learned a lot about opening a new spot. I fear that the final decision on the food may not be his to work out.
Ideas for Bachelorette Party - 6 people?
Masa in the South End has a great bar area and you can get plates of tapas to help save money. You can reserve several bar tables and the place is usually lively. Stella, South End, might also be a good spot. The food is very good and a great value.
The Beehive - So far, not great
I feel that Beehive has such a buzz (sorry) because Boston is so lacking creative, non-cookie cutter restaurants, bars, lounges and clubs. Most places opt for the safe, non offensive and thusly non creative spot that appeals to the greatest number of customers. Obviously that is a broad statement and several exceptions are out there, but overall I feel that this is the case.
Student musicians can be and are great, but lets not kid ourselves as to why they are used, they are cheap to hire. I bet that most work for free just to get time on a stage.
Regarding the food, I bet you will see the food take a backseat at Beehive. Now that they have all the permits and approval from the neighborhood and city, they will be a live music venue that serves some food. Not as it was pitch to the neighborhood, a restaurant that has live music. I bet a trimmed down menu with very basic offerings that any decent like cook can send out will be the norm. High labor costs, staffing issues and inconsistency will force this move. Who knows, it could have been the plan from the start.
I hope the bar staff stays put because they are top notch. The crowd could make several of them head for the door. I am sure that Beehive is here to stay, but without the edge that they could and should have had.
Nantucket anniversary dinner
The entire idea of LoLa 41 is to have foods from all over the world, counties/regions that intersect longitude 41. The same longitude of Nantucket. The food really works and the place is very warm and inviting. Great sushi menu and chef, house made pasta, one of the best burgers I have ever had and a great bar. Too many restaurant do not think outside the box. The owners and chefs really pull it all together at LoLa.
Nantucket anniversary dinner
I have just come back from a week of dining bliss on Nantucket. It is always a challenge to find out who is good or bad that season, what chef moved where, who is just relying on name alone. Here is my advise for this season. Oran Mor, Water Street, Straight Wharf, LoLa 41. All these locations are a sure thing. The food at all was amazing and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. LoLa 41 was great because it was so unique to Nantucket. Thanks my 2 cents.
Good genuine food around MIT
I must agree with the options of Rendezvous and The Blue Room. You can't loose with either restaurant. I feel that Rendezvous is one of the best top to bottom dining experiences in all of Boston.
Red Wine for a Summer Wedding
So far it sounds like you are going to have a great wedding. The menu and your white choice look great. I would stay away from that big heavy red in the summer heat. The suggestion of a Rose is great. A great value from the Languedoc region of southern France is Domaine de l' Hortus Rose, $10.99 at Wine House.
Other great values from the south of France are Cht. Valcomb, $8.99, from Costieres de Nimes and Cht de St. Cosme, St. James Basket Press, $10.99 from the Southern Rhone. The St. Cosme is a great little wine for the $$.
Two great options at Wine House from Italy are Cusomano Nero d' Avola, $10.99, from Sicily and Allergrini Valpolicella Classico, $11.99, from Veneto.
Don't be intimidated by what you don't know, ask for help, taste the wines and pick what you like. Good luck with your choice and your wedding
A couple of Beehive impressions
Peter Cip from Silvertone is going to pick up a night at Beehive?
T-Accessible Clam Bellies!
Morse Fish in the South End and Jasper White's Summer Shack in Back Bay. Both have amazing whole fried clams.
It's Mojito season...who does the best one?
Nothing like a good mojito in the summer. I go to Masa during the week a lot for cocktails. One of the bartenders, Bethany, turned me on to her mojito, NOT the Masa version. She is Puerto Rican and makes it so right; fresh lime (not rose's), granulated sugar (not simple syrup), fresh mint, ice, silver rum. No need to reinvent classic drinks. She make a rockin margarita as well, NOT the Masa version.
