Caterer Recommendations?

I've been really happy with Bertha's Cafe lately. I've had good luck with Sharko's too.

Saving under cooked brownies

They should fit back in fine. I'd lined the pan with foil so they just lifted right out. I'll see how it works out. Thanks!

Saving under cooked brownies

Is there any way to save under cooked brownies? As I was just cutting my cooled brownies, I realized that they're way too gooey. If I put them back in the oven, will that finish the job?

Cherubini Donuts (Italian) in Tempe, AZ???

I stopped by this morning and enjoyed it. My husband and I tried some of their raised and cake donuts. The raised donuts are huge but the cake donuts are standard size. Everything was fresh and done well. The coffee was good too. They offer all the Starbuck's-type coffee drinks but their regular coffee was nice. It's really nice to see an alternative Dunkin around here. We'll be happy to come back. I hope they can make it.

Oreo Dessert

Chocolate Wafer Icebox Cake: http://www.oprah.com/recipe/food/reci...
Way easy to make and ever since I made it for my nieces, they request the "Oreo Cake" for every event. They say it tastes just like Oreo's but better.

I hope whatever you make comes out great!

Muffin batter overnight?

Thanks for all the responses! I'm in the 3rd trimester of my pregnancy and finding that I get tired a lot faster than usual. Last night I pre-measured my dry ingredients, finished baking the pound cakes and went to bed. I'll take care of the muffins today. I had a feeling that letting the batter sit overnight was a bad idea but couldn't remember why. Thanks for filling in the blanks!

Thanks! I thought that was the case. Some shortcuts just don't work, I guess.

Muffin batter overnight?

I was too ambitious in my baking plans for the night. I've got some pound cakes in the oven baking now and I'd planned to put in some muffins when the cakes came out but I think I'll be too tired. I'd love to just make the batter tonight and bake them off in the morning but will the muffins suffer if the batter is left in the fridge until morning? I have a feeling they might. Anyone tried this before?

Best lunch in Mesa/Chandler/Tempe

Chino Bandido is on the SE corner of Dobson and Chandler. Always great.

Dinner near Phoenixville/King of Prussia

I'm in town visiting family and my mom has just offered to watch the baby while husband and I go to dinner. We're in Schwenksville, near Phoenixville and King of Prussia. I'm not terribly familiar with the area but we'd love some suggestions. We'd love to find someplace with entrees less than $20 and we'd try any type of food. Thanks so much!

Cupcakes in Phoenix Area

I accidentally gave you the wrong cross streets. Sugarlips is at Dobson and Guadalupe. They're tucked away in the corner of a strip mall there. I hope you enjoy it.

Cupcakes in Phoenix Area

I felt the same way about Sprinkles and I was so excited when they finally opened. I really like Sugarlips Cakery on Alma School and Guadalupe in Mesa. http://www.sugarlipscakery.com/index.asp
They're $2 per cupcake, buy one get one free on Friday's and the cake is always moist. The pink champagne cupcake is my favorite.

the perils of home pie baking

Fantastic post! If you enjoyed your pie half as much as I enjoyed your story, then you're ready to send out the invite to all those pie-loving friends of yours.

Soon to be stranded at lunchtime in south Phoenix

I work in the area so I’ll be watching this thread. I don’t have any suggestions for delivery and a lot of the good places in the area have already been mentioned but if you’re looking for something sweet on the way in to work or after lunch, I’ve enjoyed Honey Moon Sweets lately. They’re on Southern between Mill and Priest and have a nice little selection breakfast pastries and bite-size desserts.

Buying Shellfish around Chandler/Mesa/Tempe

I’m hosting a dinner party this weekend and want to try an indoor clambake. Any suggestions on where to buy reliable shellfish in the Chandler/Mesa/Tempe area? I’m hoping for a less expensive alternative to AJ’s or Whole Foods. Has anyone tried Lee-Lee’s for shellfish? Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Sex In The City Cupcakes

If you want to take it just a little further, you could make the cupcakes from the recipe used at the cupcake place they went to in the show. They went to Magnolia Bakery and their basic cupcake recipe is pretty easy to track down online. Here's the link to the Food Network posting of the recipe.

Sprinkles in Scottsdale?

Thanks for all the great responses. I've gotten a chance to try a few of their cupcakes. My surprise favorite was the Peanut Butter chip. I thought it would be way too sweet but the cake was moist and peanut butter flavor was full but not overwhelming. Enjoyed the Dark Chocolate and the Strawberry pretty equally but was unexpectedly disappointed in the Orange. That one had the best scent of them all but the cake way too dry and the icing had less flavor than aroma. I thought it would be a fun flavor but it came off a bit flat.

I’ve been looking forward to Sprinkles’ opening but by the time they finally got around to it, I was kind of cupcaked-out. I’m not a complete convert but I do look forward to more research! Up next has to be the Chai and the Pumpkin.

I completely agree with Jess321 about Cupcakes in Hilton Village. Really not good. It may be mean to point out, but their website is pretty bad. It basically explains that they love fashion but decided to open a cupcake store instead. It explains a lot.

Has anyone made it over to the new Sprinkles store in Scottsdale? I'm thinking about going over this weekend and was wondering what other Hounds thought so far.

Thanks.

Salad ideas?

I’m having a friend over for dinner tonight and I’m making a chili-rubbed pork tenderloin with a corn salsa and sweet potato fries. I think a big bowl of salad might needed but I have no idea what to put in it. Any ideas? I usually make pretty lame salads. Only restrictions are no nuts and no bell peppers. Thanks!

Your favorite 'Cake Bible' recipe?

That Lilac cake is so beautiful. I'm not quite ready to take that on. Yet. I love seeing how much people enjoy this book. Thanks so much for all your suggestions. I love the 'insider's' perspective.

Your favorite 'Cake Bible' recipe?

It's funny you mention the introduction. I usually go right for the recipes in a new cookbook but I glanced at the introduction and was drawn in. I was pretty impressed by the idea of a dissertation on sifting. I am very happy with this purchase.
