Seafood markets on the Outer Banks

I am visiting the Outer Banks for a week and I am looking for a good seafood market that is decently priced. Mainly looking for shellfish and simple whitefish to fry/saute. I am staying in South Nags Head, so I don't want to travel north of Southern Shores.

Any recommendations??

Thanks

recipe for japanese style bread rolls filled with corn, tuna etc.

Thanks for all of the info!

recipe for japanese style bread rolls filled with corn, tuna etc.

I used to go to a japanese bakery in nyc that sold regular soft rolls baked and filled with a tuna salad, or a corn/mayo concoction. They were so delicious! Bakery is no longer there - am looking for a recipe I could make at home. Any ideas?

help - need bar/resto for 40th bday party for group - with apps/drinks

I am hosting a 40th birthday party for my husband. I want to host a party for 20-30 people at a bar or resto and offer beer/wine and light apps. My favorite area is West Village but will consider anywhere. My question is, does it have to be a charge per person or does any place agree to a set charge (say $500) and work within that amount?? And are there bars that would agree to an open bar (beer/wine) and allow you to bring i your own apps?? I am trying to figure out the best way to do this without breaking the bank. I am looking for a fun, festive place. Ideal if it is a bar/resto, we would do the party from 6-8ish and then whoever could make it would eat at the restaurant. This would be for a Saturday night in March.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks

Where to buy Tamarind Pulp Stamford

I just bought tamarind pulp at the Oriental market in Norwalk. It is on Route 123 in a strip mall near Banksville Fabrics, and down from John's Best pizza. It is in a square package and I think it is the dried block form.

Stamford lunch places

I second Giovanni's for an eggplant parm. Casa Villa is an amazing authentic Mexican place on West main (I think). The Tacos al pastor is amazing. I had them cater a lunch at company full of fussy people and everyone thought it was fantastic.

So what's the (chow) skinny on New Canaan, CT?

NC Pizza is getting a bad rap and I think it is fantastic Greek style pizza. Whenever friends from out of town come and we get pizza, they always say how great it is. Agree on Chings - great food, horrible service. However, I was able to bring a 10-week old baby there with no problem since it is so loud. Also agree about Little Tokyo in Broad River - food is really fresh and good and they are kid friendly.

Need quick place to eat tonight near Beacon THeatre (Broadway/74th)

Going to see a show tonight and need a place to get a bite - quick and cheap. I like Japanese and italian best.

thanks

West Hollywood restaurant recommendations

THanks for all the recommendations - can't wait!

West Hollywood restaurant recommendations

For 2 out of towners. We are staying in West Hollywood and want to keep driving to a minimum. We like mexican, italian, asian, and festive ambiance. I am the foodie and he not so much so the local opinion would be much appreciated!

Need recommendations for decently priced restos in West Hollywood area

Actually I phrased my post incorrectly. What I meant was, we are going away without our kids so we are looking for a fun and festive place that won't have kids. SOrry! But thanks for all of the recommendations!

Need recommendations for decently priced restos in West Hollywood area

I am visiting LA for Columbus Day weekend for my husbands birthday and I would love some restaurant recs. Not too expensive, not too fussy and we like mexican, italian, asian. We have 2 small kids, don't get out much, so a fun and festive ambiance wouldn't hurt. We have 3 nights out so a rec doesn't necessarily need to be super fun happy time to make the list. We are staying in West Hollywood so if it is nearby that would be good, as I am trying to keep driving to a minimum. I know there are tons of great restaurants in LA, but I am no sure I want to be driving far distances after a meal and wine (or sake or beer....).

We are from he East Coast and want to get the local opinion. I am the foodie and he not so much so any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

another name for pasilla pepper?

I am making tacos al pastor at home and one of the ingredients I need is a pasilla pepper. I have looked online and some say it is also called chile negro, some say a version of an ancho chile and also poblano. Can anyone clear this up? I can find dried chile negros, dried ancho chiles and canned poblanos but no pasillas anywhere. Can anyone help?

Best Asian Markets in Fairfield Cty, Westchester

Eats in Orlando for March weekend

Hi all-
I am in Orlando first weekend in march for a wedding. I am meeting an old friend and we both love to eat and drink. We are looking for a good place for one or two lunches and one dinner. I like seafood, south/central american, mexican, etc. Not fancy just fun. It is a weekend away from my kids so I am ready for a fun night out.

Haven't been to Orlando since I was a kid so I don't know area at all. We are staying at Rosen Centre Hotel and aren't certain we are renting a car, so has to be within a taxi ride. However we may change our mind.

Any ideas would be appreciated!! Thanks.

Stamford- Good, fun place for a work dinner for 15 - 20

I have to plan 2 work dinners for 15-20 people in January in Stamford. I want one place a little more formal, good food but not super expensive, possibly in a private room. I want another place fun but not crazy, could be funky, good drinks etc. i think italian, mexican, spanish, asian are all good. Any ideas?

Rhinebeck recs. for this weekend

There is a place right next to beekman Arms that is great. I think it is the Fosters Coach House. Very old and booths are old horse stalls. Great steaks and fish. And there is a good breakfast place called Shoneys or something like that.

Best farmer markets close to Stamford, CT

I want to go to a good farmers market Saturday morning. I really want fresh eggs and some good veggies. The stamford mkt is crappy and I heard there is a market in New Haven that is good. I am willing to go to a Westchester mkt as long as it opens early.

In Stamford - Mexican or Chinese with small kids

Looking for a good resto for dinner with my 3-year-old and 6 -month-old. Would like Stamford because I live here and it is easy. Nothing stuffy!

From NYC to Canaan, New York (Upper Hudson Valley Help Needed)

There are lots of cute places around New Canaan. if you are looking for a good resto in town, gates has good food and is child friendly, for an upscale type of place - I take my 3 year-old and 6 month old (on Main st). For breakfast you can go to Reed's Country Cupboard on Elm Street - it is at the end of an alley on right if you go up the street. Haven't been but heard great things about Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Westchester. Resto is tough to get into but there is a cafe where you can drop in. Also it is a working farm on the Rockefeller Estate so you can look at animals (don't know if baby is big enough). There is an apple-picking place in Bethel called Blue Jay Orchards. Also there is a really good sushi place in Norwalk called Little Tokyo. Take 123 out of New Canaan into Norwalk into an area called "Broad River." The resto is in a strip mall across from Uncle Joe's. Great sushi and I take my kids.
Update: Ooops! THere is a maple inn in NC too so I got confused. Sorry!

Good dim sum in Fairfield County

Looking for some good dim sum in fairfield county! I might or might not be bringing my 2 small kids. Low to medium expensive, not fancy. Any suggestions are appreciated!

I need an italian resto for anniversary dinner in Stamford

I am looking for a resto to go for my anniversary. I am a foodie but have 2 small kids and don't get out much right now. i want a place with a good glass of wine, a good italian meal and a nice ambiance. Not too formal (La Fontanella) but not a pizza joint. Help!
