Jane's Ice Cream at the Kingston Farmer's Market

Well, the title may be a little misleading...........it was Jane's sister that was selling the ice cream And sorbet. You can get it in pints, scoops and on a stick (aka popsicles). If you really want to go over the edge, have the scoop or popsicle dipped in dark chocolate and chocolate chips. I had a combination of raspberry sorbet and chocolate ice cream on a stock--I can still taste it.

Also at the market was the Lazy Crazy Acres Farmstead Creamery from Arkville. They advertise themselves as making "cow to cone gelato". (They have their own herd of cows.) I tried their vanilla and whereas I'm not as familiar with gelato, I can honestly say that it was incredible.

Both Jane's and Lazy Crazy are new to this market. I hope they succeed since the hours are 9AM to 2PM. The hours at the Woodstock Market is more conducive to frozen deserts (3PM to 7PM on Wednesdays.)

Wine shops in the Albany, NY area with good selection of NY wines

Go to Exit 9 Wine and Liquor in Clifton Park. It's right off the Northway. It is not only the largest wine store in NYS (at 37,500sf) but they have the largest selection of NYS wines I have seen. And their prices are hard to beat.

Restaurant Near Rt. 91 between Chicopee and Greenfield?

Just to clarify, I'm planning to have lunch in the area. And yes, hilltowner, I may have misjudged the distance between Chicipee and Greenfield; the mileage from the highway is relative--there are certain restaurants that are so good that they are "worth the detour."

Restaurant Near Rt. 91 between Chicopee and Greenfield?

I'm planning to head to Greenfield via Interstate 91. Can anyone suggest a quiet restaurant, one that is conducive for conversation, and is near that highway? I prefer one where the chef is proud of his ingredients.

Good Restaurant Bard College/Red Hook area

Mercato is one of my favorite restaurants in the Hudson Valley. Try their Berkshire pork or pheasant entrees. Or anything else on the menu.

You'll need to make reservations if you're dining on the week end. Ask to sit in the back room if you want a more quieter experience. Also, they sell real olive oil by the liter--it comes from their family farm in Italy so you can be assured that it is 100% olive.

The restaurant is located on East Market Street about a 1/2 mile from the traffic light.

Grimaldi's in New Paltz

Sorry to report that the restaurant has closed. FYI, they had lost their liquor license a few months ago (for serving minors).
I had felt that this was one of the better pizza restaurants in the Hudson Valley.

Pork without the added 12% "solution" of Lord knows what.

There is a winter farmer's market in Hudson that is located at the new radio station. Northwind Farm is selling their chickens (fresh), beef and pork (frozen). Sorry, but I don't know where the radio station is located but it should be easy to find.

Thanksgiving Dinner in the Mid-Hudson Valley

I am interested in dining at the restaurant.

Thanksgiving Dinner in the Mid-Hudson Valley

The title says it all. Suggestions can be either for a traditional or non-traditional dinner.

Chinese Food Duchess County?

I "third" Formosa Cuisine and Dumpling Palace. Also Welcome Oriental Grocery and Twisted Soul. Outside of these, I agree with Mike in Rhinebeck that good Chinese food in Dutchess County is an oxymoron. And let me add Ulster County.

Best Hudson Valley Farms for Apple or Pumpkin Picking

Check out Stone Ridge Orchards in the town of Stone Ridge and Mr. Apple which is in High Falls. Both are not too far from Woodstock. The former orchard is eco certified while the later is low spray. Call ahead to check the "picks" of the week.

Vegetarian Hudson Valley

The Village Tea Room in New Paltz has been mentioned. Also, further north and on the other side of the river is Luna 61 in Tivoli; it's a veggie restaurant but the meat eaters are willing to take a night off when they dine here.

Unfortunately the leaf lookers are going to be disappointed this fall; it's all due to the amount of rain we got.

Romantic Restaurant Near Wading River ?

The title says it all. Oh, and the food, any cuisine) should be good.

Best Romantic Restaurant in Woodstock Area?

Peekamoose would meet your criteria; unfortunately it is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

mercato or agriturismo in hudson valley

What a lucky daughter you have....a choice between two of my favorite restaurants in the Mid-Hudson Valley. Go for it--one next time and the other after that!

Both restaurants are big into the best of the local ingredients. And the chefs know how to use them.

The downside of Mercato is that it can get noisy. Some people enjoy that, others don't. Also, and I assume your daughter is a student at Bard, Mercato is located nearby in Red Hook; Agriturismo is about 20 miles down the road.

And don't forget to make reservations; you'll need them.

The Falcon--Marboro

Chef Chad Greer, formerly the owner and chef of Beso in New Paltz, has resurfaced! He is now cooking at the Falcon.

The Falcon, many of you locals may know, is a jazz/blues room that attracts musicians from NYC, Woodstock and everywhere in between. I can't begin to explain how great the place is. And now the kitchen uses local beef, pasta and veggies. So you can come early to eat well or eat while you are watching the show.

Just remember that this is a a performance room which means that the tables are small, close together and the menu, while offering appetizers, entrees and deserts, is limited in choices. But what choices............ It's not a good idea to just come for the food.

Go onto www.liveatthefalcon.com for the drink and food menu (as well as the names of the performers.)

Where to buy fresh mozzarella in Hudson Valley?

Check out the farmer's markets in Kingston and in Rhinebeck. Both have stands that sell mozzarella. Migliorelli's continues to sell a good product--the cheese used to be made by Ken Migliorelli's mother and then by his sister; it is now made by his niece. The quality is still excellent.

But, like the original poster, I am also looking for a store (i.e., a twelve month source) that sells excellent mozzarella. However, I am looking for more of a source in the Kingston/Rhinebeck/Poughkeepsie area.

Spokane and Coeur d'Alene

The Breakfast Nook in the place to go in Coeur d'Alene for the first meal of the day--tasty, healthy, etc. Go onto YELP for reviews that are right on the mark.

Just to let you know, there was a line waiting to get in on a Sunday, and that was in February!

Starbucks Iced Tea

FYI, Tazo is owned by Starbucks.

Sheet cakes for 60 people on my way from Hopewell Junction to Mt. Tremper (going through Kingston)

Applesauce--There's no Costco anywhere in the Hudson Valley. FYI, there is a Sam's in the Town of Ulster (right next to Kingston; just over the Rhinecliff/Kingston bridge.) Also, the local Shoprite had the cake you are looking for. And, several blocks from Fleischer's is a Hanaaford store; they might sell it.

FYI, skip Deisings and Adams-the former is over rated and the latter's bakery isn't up to their produce.

Where is the best brunch in the Rhinebeck, Hyde Park, Red Hook, Kingston Area?

The resturant I would suggest does not serve bloody marys nor a traditional English breakfast. What is does offer is something that is hard to find.....tradition. Try the Village Diner in Red Hook. It was built in the 1920s, the wait staff are unbelievely friendly and the food, while being diner food, is a step above most of them. The "locals" love the place and the weekenders take over on Saturday and Sunday. And they sell the Times next door in Stewarts.

Shoprite in Scarsdale

Just got a call from my local Shoprite that the local Coke warehouse will be receiving Passover Coke on March 28th. They said that it should get into the store on April 1st or 2nd. I assume this schedule will be similar at other Shoprites.

Mention1--Passover begins the evening of April 18th, so there still is plenty of time to load up with that coke. If, like many people, you want to buy it for the sugar and you can't wait for the "sugar rush", consider going to a local Mexican foot mart.

Shoprite in Scarsdale

I was told by the manager of the Shoprite near Kingston that it would be coming to the stores this week. Also coming will be Passover Dr. Pepper

Virgo's Sip n' Soul Cafe--Beacon

In today's Poughkeepsie Journal there is an article (not a review) of the above named restaurant/jazz club. Have any of you foodies eaten there?

Metromix "Best" - Seriously?

There is no need to travel 80 miles for Italian food at Gigi's in Rhinebeck. It's not an Italian restaurant--the Chef/Owner states on the web site that it is Hudson Valley Mediterranean. In fact, that's the title of her latest cookbook.

Also,I went onto the Metromix web site expecting to see Best Hamburger-McDonald's

Dinner Near Hunter Mountain

Check out Peekamoose restaurant in Big Indian. This is a find! It's open Thurs. through Sun.

Any New Restaurants in Coeur d'Alene?

I'm suprised that no one responded to my post. Will I have to be going to the "same old, same old...." restaurants?

Any New Restaurants in Coeur d'Alene?

I'll be visitng Coeur d"Alene for the first time in about a year. Are there any new restaurants that you hounds can recommend? How about new chefs? I'm tired of the same old, same old..........

Breezy Hill Farm-Their New Retail Store in Rhinebeck

Great news!!! Breezy Hill farm has recently opened a retail store in Rhinebeck. It's on East Market near CVS.

They are currently selling their organic fruit as well as organic greens, potatoes, onions and other goodies that they purchase from co ops located within 100 miles (thus making everything "local".) They also have some canned goods. Their prices are reasonable.

They told me some of their future plans including the delivering to homebound seniors, donating to families in need, to name just two.

This store is definitely important to the community and should be supported by us locals, visitors and weekenders. And.............their produce is good and also healthy.

leonardo's in rhinebeck - opinions?

There is a sign in the window saying that they are closing as of the 24th of this month.
