Recos for late dinner @ local joint near Marriott Marquis

Hi Kathryn -- We're coming in from the West Coast and will be hungry, so we're trying not to walk more than 6 blocks or so. We're not budget conscious, but we will be dressed pretty casually, so some of the finer joints are probably not on our list for Friday. I'm hoping for a place that takes reservations so that we don't have to wait for a table. Any/all cuisines are in play, we a couple of foodies :)

Thanks tex.s.toast! I forgot about Hells Kitchen being nearby, which might offer some good options. I appreciate the link as well. Enjoy the day!

Recos for late dinner @ local joint near Marriott Marquis

Looking for recommendations for dinner at a locally owned joint near the Marriott Marquis. Most restaurants near there are yucky chains. Friend and I will be arriving around 8:00pm on a Friday in late July and want to walk to some place yummy. Ideas?

Need ideas for a white sauce that will keep on a buffet.

Indeed - a combo of Hank's carafe and your idea of making the sauce a littler thinner should work wonderfully. Grazie to you both!

I actually have one of those very same thermal carafes - brilliant!

Thanks, Thimes. I'm afraid that a cream or flour-based sauce will thicken up too much with the heat of a chafing pan and will end up like glue. Does that make sense?

Need ideas for a white sauce that will keep on a buffet.

I'll be having a buffet grazing bar at my holiday party. One of the dishes is Mushroom Ravioli and I'd like to have a white sauce for it that will work on a buffet for a few hours. I'm thinking that a cream sauce isn't necessarily the best bet. Can anyone assist with a different idea? I'm staying away from red sauce, as it will be used in another dish.

Restaurant X, Cornelius, NC

Has anyone been to this rather new restaurant? How is the atmosphere? How is the menu/food? Is it full of students from nearby Davidson College? Would my spunky, 70-year old parents be comfortable there? Do you think it's more of a lunch place, dinner place, or either?

Making burgers in advance..need help!

Thanks to everyone that weighed in on the topic. I think I'm going to slightly revise the menu and have Brats, Sloppy Joes and Chicken. Thank goodness that none of my guests are vegetarian!

Making burgers in advance..need help!

I'm entertaining a large group for a cookout and don't want to slave over the grill for hours. Does anyone have advice for making burgers in advance and keep them hot and juicy?
