Ketchup Lovers: Super Slippery Ketchup Bottles On The Horizon

We have the great engineering minds at MIT to thank for this improvement in the quality of life of diners:

Are Food Critics The Emperor With No Clothes?

Drew Magary writing in Gawker seems to think so:

Greene's? Long gone.

Brats Brothers in the old Max's location in Sherman Oaks?

Judging by the picture on the web site, they ought to rename the joint "Brat Sisters".

And I Always Thought At Chopped Contestants Were "Struggling" Chefs Who Could Really Use The Money...

I really don't understand why so many people seem to be enthralled with Donut Man. Tried their strawberry donut, nothing more than a glazed donut with some strawberries and strawberry pie "gel". I also tried their buttermilk donut and it was dry and crumbly. This donut shop is not worth a trip out of your way, and certainly not worth exiting the freeway for.

Lox in Pasadena?

And I'd be tempted to order both a lox and a whitefish tray. I could feed myself and 19 of my closest friends, or just keep it all for me (the fish and bagels will freeze). What's $359.00 when it is spent on good lox and whitefish. ;-)

Lox in Pasadena?

Are you sure about Acme selling to consumers via the web site? Seems they only sell to consumers on site, Fridays only.

Lox in Pasadena?

It is my understanding that Brent's (Northridge) delivers everywhere in the greater L.A. area.

Lunch in Indio?

POM, the dining room at the Fantasy Springs Casino Resort comes to mind. It is right off I-10 at the Golf Center Parkway exit. Here is their menu: http://www.fantasyspringsresort.com/prod/dining/menus/pom_menu.pdf

I always enjoy the food there, quality ingredients prepared well. You don't have to go through the casino to get to this restaurant, leave the car with the valet at the hotel entrance, or park it in the parking structure on the east side of the hotel, then follow the colonnade west, past the lobby and POM will be the "sunken" room on your left, dine inside or on the terrace (terrace has misters for hot days).

Asian Night Market to Open in Pasadena

As I noted above, the venue is right in front of Le Cordon Bleu, coincidence?

Bigmista's Barbecue at the Sierra Madre Farmers Market

Hmmm, sounds like the Chino Hills Farmers market might lose out to Sierra Madre at some point. This is what we had when we visited the Chino Hills Farmers market on Wednesday: http://goo.gl/SdUl1

Is there a way to PM another CH-er ?

Long live the scorpion hunter!

Chow Tip: How To Open A Beer With Another Beer

Chow Editorial:

Are you watching how it is done properly?

Chow Tip: How To Open A Beer With Another Beer

OK, so I watched the Chow tip on this and I learned that I can open a bottle of beer by levering the cap on the cap of a second bottle of beer. Uh...... and then how do I open the second botte of beer when the other bottle no longer has a cap on it?

Oh, wait, I know the answer: I go and buy a third bottle of beer, and don't drink that one...

Maybe we have a self-fulfilling prophecy here, there will always be an unopened bottle of beer.

Langer's vs. Katz's and One Other LA vs NY Observation

I could not care less if Langer's or Katz offers the best pastrami, it's not like I would hop on a plane if I were in one city if I thought the pastrami was better in the other city, let's be real about this.

The local consensus is that Katz's has outstanding pastrami and the local consensus is that Langer's has outstanding pastrami. All I care about is enjoying the best pastrami I can get my hands on, while I am in any given city. Just enjoy it all.

A Chowhound is not some wealthy connoisseur who will travel any distance for the "best" of anything, a Chowhound is a guy or a gal who is capable of sniffing out a soul satisfying delicious bite of anything, where ever that Chowhound is on the planet at any given time.

optimizely.com?

I have not seen that at all. Just wondering, Robert, if your local ISP might be doing something?

Breakfast in Arcadia

Rather than posting a link to that Philistine Yelp site, I'll post a link to a previous thread here:

I've been to LeRoy's for breakfast, decent diner breakfast, there usually is a line waiting to get in on weekend mornings, but 8 AM ought to work out OK.

Dripp Coffee Trickling In Chino Hills

Well since Dripp is practically down the street from us, and they may have worked out the kinks, I'll ask the Mrs. if she wants to give them another chance, next time we are over at The Shoppes.

Escena golf club in Palm Springs

Good to know. We keep meaning to make it out there on a Wednesday evening for dinner and some live jazz.

Coffee bean specialty shops

i buy my beans from Jones Coffee Roasters in Pasadena, order on the web for delivery by UPS.

Hodads style onion rings in LA area (Santa Monica, Hollywood, Pasadena areas)

Big Daddy's sounds intriguing. We will have to hit this place for Happy Hour one day.

Best hot dogs & onion rings on the Westside?

Recent addition on Lucille BBQ's menu, fried onion strings. Addicting, must have bar food.

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE

So how are the baked goods at Eilat Bakery?

Asian Night Market to Open in Pasadena

Hmmmm, on Oakland between Colorado and Union. Isn't Oakland and Colorado one of the big Le Cordon Bleu campus', real Asian food or culinary students' approximations?

Freddy's Smalls Bar & Kitchen on Pico in WLA

Report back after you eat there and get some first hand experience, you are supposed to be a field operative, not just an analyst back in Langley. ;-)
