Advice on Romantic Spot for Marriage Proposal

POV for sure cant go wrong with that view. BLT at the Camelback inn is nice as well, or maybe elements at Sanctuary

Dinner suggestions near The Four Seasons?

I like both, Avanti is pretty dated decor wise, but the food is pretty good and much more affordable. If you're out for a big impression, Marcellino is great, but can be expensive.

Mexican Food For Gf's Birthday

the Mission in Old Town is good and fun, but maybe not romantic. I like Richardsons best and its nice, but not stuffy.

Best Meats and Cheese in the Valley?

For easy start up call your local Boar's Head distributor. if you want locally grown, probably have to shop around a bit, maybe look at the Local First providers list. Try Jesse at Amalgamated Foods for more niche brands and Italian cold cuts.

Romanelli's or DeFalcos ?

I like Romanelli's because of their sausage selection, Deflacos does make a pretty good sandwich though. The take out pasta bemoaned by the other guys is OK at both, but I actually like Guido's on Scotts/Shea for that a little better.

PHX to Sedona=Lunch?

Stop at Richardson's north of Bethany Home in Phx. It is on 16th St just 1 block off Hwy 51, about 10 min north of the PHX airport. Great New Mexican/Southwest food. quick access to the freeway to get you on your way. Easy to eat yourself into submission though. :)

Looking for a "foodie-friendly" neighborhood for a new home

Agree on old town scottsdale area, or just west of there towards the Arcadia neighborhood in PHX. lots of good stuff to eat along Indian School Rd and Scottsdale Rd. Supermarkets are Safeways and Frys in the hood, with the Safeway being the better choice, AJ's are close by for specialty items and decent (not stellar) carry out options.
Mesa and Chandler have some spots of good dining activity, but pretty spread out.

Best grilled cheese & tomato bisque?

Beckett's does a nice job. roasted red pepper in the soup. nice touch. I like the grilled cheeses at Sportsmans and Grazie (lunch only) as well. Grazie does this oven baked panini type with provolone, fontina, asiago, gorgonzola and mozz. Soup when it's colder. absolutey killer bread in the wood oven. The best tomato soup I've had is probably Houston's, but no grillie there.

Dinner/lunch near Arizona Biltmore

Del Friscos is good, patio is fantastic and their wine room is very cool as well as well stocked. I only had brunch, but the chicken and waffles with bacon was fantastic. Worth a try. They are national out of Dallas I think, but only 7 stores so a bit of local preference creeps in. Manager is an old friend from the biz and has lots of experience at CG and Roka Akor.

Dinner/lunch near Arizona Biltmore

Sorry to disagree with the disagreers but Tarbell's and BLT are great. Maybe the menus aren't cutting edge, but the quality and prep is allways fantastic as is the service.

There's also a new Del Frisco's at 24th and Camelback, and for a high end chain they do great food. Chef has a lot of freedom apparently.

Also the standard recommendation of Richardson's must be made. great New Mexican food, good green chili!

Solo Dinner in downtown

If you like the cocktail scene and want to come back next year, check Arizona Cocktail Week. Great little festival of tasting and craft spirit promotion. I had a really good time this year. Usually in /april.

Girls Weekend in May

I'd add Davanti Enoteca, Eddie's House, and Roaring Fork to that list as well, or go down Lincoln the other way to Richardson's in Phx.

Solo Dinner in downtown

The Blue Hound at Hotel Palomar is exactly that, Haney's Pub is wonderful as well, or for a touch of Ireland The Turf. ReBar is good as well, nice patio, but a more clubbish

Dinner suggestions near The Four Seasons?

ITalian - Davanti Enoteca for creative, Northern cuisine, Marcellino for more pasta oriented dishes in Old Scottsdale
Tapas - nothing comes to mind, avoid Papas tapas Fritas though, maybe Pepin
Steaks - Bourbon is good as BC says, but I like Mastros better and its close to you
Best up that way is right across the road at Greasewood Flats, though it is overrun with tourists. try

Salad for lunch in Scottsdale

i've eaten there recently and haven't found the food to have slipped. Had the Testosterone salad and the short ribs. both were great. there's a good new Italian place at Lincoln and Scottsdale that you might like. Davanti Enoteca, worth a try.

Salad for lunch in Scottsdale

Cobb salad at Cowboy Ciao or Citizen Public House is good, no big salad bar chains in Scottsdale to speak of. but AJ's high end supermarkets have a good spread and there are several on the way in from the west. Camelback and 44th comes to mind.

Guiseppe's On 28th Street - Phoenix

Basic Italian, not bad but nothing to go out of the way for. They do have good specials on occasion though. nice friendly little place, kinda cozy.

Dinner Restaurants for Saturday night

Richardson's right up the street at 16th and Maryland, just north of where you ate last night. Can be a little pricey, but get there for happy hour and you score inexpensive small plates. Or Arriba on Camelback is mexican. Good straight up sonoran style. they can be pretty cheese heavy though, so watch your cholestral if you go there. Also neighborhood Mexican place near you with great tequila selection, Via de Losantos at Dunlap and Central. fun place, very casual. Sierra Bonita on 7th or Barrio Cafe would also be options.

Restaurant recommendation near Celebrity Theater

closest two worth a try are Stockyards at 48th and Washington, or Avanti at 32nd Thomas. Both are OK. If you are staying at one of the hotels on 44th street, there are several nice places along Indian School without driving into Scottsdale. Beckett's Table, La Fontanella, Cave and Ive's, and a few more casual places like Arcadia Tavern, Tee Pee, or Kitchen 56 might all serve as well. While there is nothing right next to the theatre, there is plenty within a two - three mile drive.

Late Monday night dinner

Richardson's for sure, they serve until 12:00
the Vig right there at 16th and Bethany also serves late, but I think it is a limited menu

Return to Phoenix

The availability of fine dining is a perfectly legitimate concern for the local scene. The comfort food scene is very over done lately, as most people point out we could use more high end ethnic and differing regional foods to round out the mix in town, I struggle to find destination restaraunts for special occasions or even just something nice for my girlfriend's birthday. as Bill rightly laments, we end up at BLT when we'd like to be at something like Marquesa used to be.

Return to Phoenix

i think Marquesa and Mary Elaines come to mind, but they're more than made up for by the new local chef's listed above, and even a resurgence of local stalwarts like Tarbell, Gross, Matney, May, etc. The new clusters of independents along Indian School, along Central and Downtown, and even out in the east valley are fantastic. the big guns open here because it's the 6th largest metro area in the country with a major resort scene, but the local flavor is so enjoyable and vibrant. I think Bill's viewpoint was valid a couple of years ago, but as the economy has started to come back the chef driven independents are springing up everywhere.

Reviews please!

Papas Tapas Fritas - fun, good sangria, tapas are really good or really blah. Paella never seems to have a good crust. worth a try but don't expecttoo much.

Yard House - good beer list, food is straight up national chain fare, not bad, but nothing you can't get anywhere

Praying Monk- only been once but great beer list and great pub food. local chef Aaron May has a solid performer here, definitely worth a stop

OHSO - again better beer list than food. some of the small plates are good and theres a green chili pork sandwich that's OK, but the patio and atmosphere are worth the trip. Go across the street to JTs for really good wings at a great dive

Widfish - only upscale place on your list and really good fish place, bar is fun place to sit and eat and enjoy a glass of wine with a nice grilled swordfish. Try Culinary Dropout next door as well

Beckett's - good comfort food place, short ribs,, green chili pork, and the mac and cheese are solid. I like this place, but it always leaves me wanting more

I'd also try Eddie's House, 5th and Wine, Brat Haus, and Citizen Public House, and Cave & Ive's in this area

PHX Layover Recommendation?

Blue Hound downtown, take the train down and walk around a little and grab a great lunch. there's a lucky strike next door if you bowl a couple lines too. Or tour the Ballpark and grab a sandwich at the Friday's while you watch the grass grow. :)

Last minute trip, help please

Brat Haus on Scottsdale Rd, Pomo or Grazie Pizza, Davanti for Italian, drive east to Hwy 51 for Richardson's New Mexico.

For Breakfast in scottsdale, Dottie's or Herb Box in old town are nice. or Eddie Matney is doing a farmer's market Brunch on Sunday's if you're here over the weekend.

Food trucks ??

there's a food truck festival on Jan 12th at Salt River Fields put on by New Times. Last year was a operational nightmare, but they swear it is better organized this year. Over 50 trucks on the line up, so you could sample and get schedules for several there. Street Eats is the event name.
