Scratch these three restaurants off your list

Chinese buffet?

It's the Fujian Grand Buffet. Has a Mongolian bbq station for those who prefer it to the pre-cooked choices.

Perry's re-opened yet?

We heard about the fire but haven't seen anything about when repairs would be completed. I hope it isn't as long as the repairs to Souplantation on Point Loma several years ago. Seems like it took over a year.

Carb Load before the Marathon

You didn't say whether this is your husband's first marathon or not. Carb-loading in the form of all you can eat pasta is not the recipe for a personal record. He should eat the same type of pre-race meal as he has done while in training before his weekly long runs. I once wrecked what would have been a great Napa Valley marathon by eating too much spaghetti the night before.

Need to find a nice quiet Mexican restaurant

Las Palomas on Bee Caves Rd.

Looking for a good Carne Asada Burrito

"I'm missing Roberto's....."

Sounds like you are from San Diego. Well, I'm missing Perry's (closed due to fire)..Nothing wrong with Magnolia,Kirby Lane or Austin cafe but they just don't compare. Gimme a combination frittata and I am useless for the rest of the day :-)

Take-out in central Austin?

Pei Wei in the Hancock Center

Pescado Zarandeado in Austin or nearby?

This is a flavorful barbeque fish dish popular in Mexico. Do any of the local restaurants offer it?
TIA

Breakfast near the airport

For a good basic breakfast near the airport we always opt for Dan's on Airport Blvd. It opens at 5 AM.

Best Asian buffet in Austin - Chi Buffet Restaurant

Anyone who was disappointed with the Fujian Grand Buffet when it first opened should give it another try. Great selection and always busy (a good sign). The cooks at the Mongolian bbq grill section do an excellent job.

If you can find Sheila Partin Hamburger Buns, you can find a great hamburger.

I don't know where they are available retail here in Austin but you can order online:

It's 11:00am on Sunday and you need 2 dozen tamales. Where do you go?

Costco south location

Road trip- Austin to Houston (stop in Brenham?)

When driving to Houston from Austin, we always make it a point to stop and eat in Brenham. This means only one restaurant....Purcell's Buffet. Really good comfort food and very nice people who run it. Open everyday but on Mondays only between 11-2.

Dinner and Breakfast Help

I would go with the Frisco Shop. The "Eggs Decorated" is their signature breakfast item.

Inexpensive birthday dinner near UT

Hyde Park Bar and Grill

Best Mole dishes in Austin?

The only decent mole poblano of which I am aware is served at Las Palomas on Bee Caves Rd.

Manuel's in Austin

Thanks, I hope that is what the OP meant. I thought that the reference might have been to pork lard which is viewed as unclean by some. Personally, I think that the use of "manteca" gives genuine Mexican food its unique flavor and that the more healthy adaptations pale in comparison. Unfortunately, its use also is partially responsible for the high incidence of obesity and diabetes in the Mexican community :-(

Manuel's in Austin

Just curious...what did you mean by "clean Mexican cuisine"? Certainly many authentic Mexican recipes rely on the use of lard but that doesn't mean that they are unclean.

Maria Maria?

His wife is the owner. She started off with a place in San Francisco.

New Restaurant opening soon-Mooyah Burgers

I am looking forward to ordering an Iceberger. Same as the I-n-O "protein style". Instead of coming with a bun, the burger is carefully hand wrapped with leaves of iceberg lettuce. Good for us low carbers.

New Restaurant opening soon-Mooyah Burgers

It was originally scheduled to open several weeks ago so I'm glad I haven't "camped out" since then. I learned about the free burger deal by googling. Mooyah seems to pattern itself along the line of In-n-Out emphasizing freshness of ingredients.

New Restaurant opening soon-Mooyah Burgers

I have finally given up waiting for this place to open. It hasn't been mentioned here but the chain has a tradition on opening day. The first 100 customers have been rewarded with free burgers for a year.

Seniors: Nice discount found

What about the all-you-can-stuff early bird special at Golden Corral for less than $7. Get there just before 4PM when they begin grilling the steaks, shrimp or whatever the special is that day. Price includes the drink too.

Best Omelets in Town?

My favorite is the custom omelet station at the Golden Corral on So. Lamar. Only on weekends.

Good Fish and Chips Recs?

Have you tried Quality Seafood Restaurant on Airport Blvd?

New Restaurant opening soon-Mooyah Burgers

According to a response I received from corporate, the Austin location won't open until sometime this summer.

Best Menudo in A-town

La Canaria. It's a yellow trailer at 51st and Airport Blvd a bit west of the Tamale House. Everything is para llevar.

Rosarita Mexico?

We lived several years just north of Rosarito. By far, the locals enjoy La Cazuela del Mole which is in the center of town. Order the pollo con mole poblano, Pechuga (breast meat) is best. You meal will come with a delicious chicken with rice soup. If you try any of the powdered chili which is on the table, use it sparingly. It is powerful stuff.

Buen Provecho!

Pumpkin Pie

Costco...really large delicious pies for about $6

Bombay Grill on Bee Caves

We also generally prefer Bombay Bistro or Taj Palace. Yesterday, ironically, I needed to be over in the same shopping center (drop off grandchild at bi-lingual preschool) and decided to give the Bombay Grill a try after giving up on it over a year ago. Yesterday, anyway, the buffet was delicious. Maybe they got a new chef. Anyway, it goes back on my list.
