Michael Gennaros Steakhouse - Fairfield, CT

Sounds like a classic pricey steak house. If anyone goes, let us know if $46 filet mignon and $10 side of asparagus is worth it. Looks like ribbon-cutting is tonight. Pictures look incredible.

New Dessert Spots in New Haven: cookies, cupcakes, frozen yoghurt and frozen MOOCHI

So Pipenta, I had to google Mochi to find out what the heck Mochi was. I was one of those who never heard of such a concoction, but after reading the attached and seeing pictures, I'm definitely going to have to check this stuff out:

The cupcake place is Katalina's on Whitney Avenue. I have had her cupcakes, and they are delicious. Not overly huge. I have heard that her biscotti is incredible too. And chai. She also does cool birthday parties in the back. A very nice and present owner.
Here's her facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Katalinas-Cupcakes/296986736998465

Savin Rock Roasting Co - Stratford, CT: What's up?

"Off the Hook" sounds interesting. Would that be on Ferry Boulevard in that area between Uberti's Seafood and Par Pools? A fish restaurant I hope.

Savin Rock Roasting Co - Stratford, CT: What's up?

Yes, a Bonefish. Love them in FL.

Savin Rock Roasting Co - Stratford, CT: What's up?

I remember when Chowder Pot was trying to get Fagan's, but there was some problem with Stratford. Chowder Pot would do great in either of those locations. Even a stinking Red Lobster would do great there.

Where can one get brisket (raw) near Milford, CT

I wanted to thank Isnhc. I purchased the brisket at Costco and it was great, as was the price, which I'm sure would probably have been double at Whole Foods next door. THANKS!

And the recipe above was wonderful too by the way.

Takeout in Trumbull Conn?

Katy: I also love Uberti's fish and chips, but only if you can eat there outside--otherwise, takeout loses its lovely crunchy batter. You may wish to try Black Rock Oyster Bar and Grill for decent seafood in a nice friendly atmosphere--and not terribly far from Trumbull. http://www.blackrockoysterbar.com/

"None of your suggestions are CH worthy." That's just not nice.

Fried belly clams.

Teaching children to behave at restaurants

Well-said. I totally agree about ritualizing "supper time." It is a welcome respite to our day and a great place for communicating. I cracked up the other day when my three-year-old said to my nine-year-old, "So, [name], what did you do at school today?" at the dinner table. My boys have been in restaurants since infancy, and it has never been a major issue. One time it was, and we got up and left.

Where can one get brisket (raw) near Milford, CT

I want to make this mexican brisket recipe. Saw on a cooking show, and I'm dying to try it; doesn't it look delicious? http://patismexicantable.com/2010/10/brisket-in-pasilla-chili-and-tomatillo-sauce-carne-enchilada.html#more

My local ShopRite doesn't seem to sell brisket. I'm sure I could special request it from the butcher, but does anyone know of any place between Bridgeport and New Haven that has it regularly in stock? Does Ferraro's sell brisket normally? Liscio's? Anyone know? Thanks

New BBQ/Tex-Mex in Milford, CT

So we went back to try the new digs. I really liked the atmosphere. Definitely well-done, and I like that they reused wood from damaged homes from Hurricane Irene. It is very cool. I like that Joey came around personally to check on everyone. I liked the picnic tables and the buckets of papertowels at the tables--great when you have kids. They need booster seats, but that is minor as I'm not sure how they would be used at the picnic tables anyway (they do have hi-chairs).

In regard to the food. The lemonade was delicious. The pulled pork nachos were delicious. My kids enjoyed their quesadillas. I ordered shrimp fajitas--they were not the big fresh variety, seemed to the be the small frozen kind but the fajitas were very delicious with good flavor. Side of black beans and mexican rice were decent. My mother ordered the fish tacos and was disappointed. Her words were that they tasted "flat." And she was upset because they were super messy and drippy and difficult to eat. My sister ordered the St. Louis style ribs with zesty bbq sauce on the side and a side of their collared greens. And just like my review back in 2010, the ribs again were very tender, but lacked any noticeable flavor. They appeared to be coated in a thick rub, but it wasn't crusty; they were soft. The sauce helped but they were just so flavorless in a very odd sort of way. The collards also were very plain, definitely more healthily cooked, no ham hock or smoked turkey leg cooked with it that I could detect.

I really want to like this place. The owner is clearly trying hard. The atmosphere is very nice and warm. I think I'd go back but definitely not for the ribs. Perhaps if we just stick to the basics. I heard they have terrific chili. People around us also appeared to have interesting looking drinks from the bar.

Need an Italian Reco in CT

Ralph n Riches in Bridgeport if you are going on a Sunday does a family style "Sunday Sauce." Atmosphere is nice. Parking is easy for large group of cars. http://www.ralphnrichsct.com/

They also have private areas, so if you know in advance, I'm sure they would do a family-style function for your table on any night if they know ahead of time.

Savin Rock Roasting Co - Stratford, CT: What's up?

My sister told me that it was "locked down.". Padlocks on doors. Is this true? Anyone have the scoop? Underage drinking possibly? Never a huge fan, but good place for sandwich and comedy shows.

Bert's Deli - Back in Milford, CT

The original owner from Bert's Deli in Milford on the Boston Post Road in the strip mall next to the Cone Zone ice cream shop is coming back. Evidentally he bought it back from Val's Deli. I am so excited. I guess he is renovating the place and modernizing it. I am anxious to try it when it opens. And so glad the prior people have left; the woman who ran Val's was so miserable that I stopped going. I hope he can get the old customers who refused to deal with her to come back. If anyone tries it, let me know how it is. Not sure when I will get there. I'm curious if he is just going to have help-yourself and sit-down service or if they are going to have wait staff for the dining room side. Curious. Anyone know anything more?

It is confirmed. They are selling the Miller's Rub now at Liscio's Meatland over near the Bridgeport/Trumbull/Stratford border!

Help - Boss needs to pick up takeout lunch for five enroute Bridgeport to Westport, CT

My boss will be traveling from Bridgeport (via I-95) to Kings Highway North in Westport. He wants to pick up lunch on the way to bring to the meeting--perhaps a gourmet sandwich shop. One person at the destination had suggested Panera or Roly Poly but neither are really on the way. Any ideas--probably not too ethnic as we don't know what their tastes are. I was thinking healthy sandwiches and a salad or even a couple of pizzas, etc., where I could call ahead and order for him to pick up while he is on his way. Thanks in advance CHers!

Smoke and Bones - Derby

Is this where the old car dealership was or somewhere near that stripmall on 34?

Kim's Yami Sushi - Milford CT

Correction, it is bibimbap. Here's a link with picture. It's like deconstructed fried rice; doesn't it look good? But Korean at a sushi place?

Kim's Yami Sushi - Milford CT

any CHers been here yet. It is in a horrible strip mall on Bridgeport Avenue across from Napoli Italian Importing between Milford hospital and stop and shop near Robert Treat Apartments. I was getting some Chinese soup at the to-go place next door and popped in to get a menu. There was a couple dining in and one patron was Asian--a decent sign. My initial reaction was that the folks inside were very nice and friendly and the place looked decently clean and bright. AND they serve bim n bop (know I'm spelling this wrong, but it seems to be a very trendy Korean street food item that I've been hearing a lot about lately and want to try). I gave the menu to my sister who has been on a sushi kick lately, but until then, let us know what you think. Not a fancy looking place to dine-in though. Saw a Spanish looking guy leaving with a small cooler--does he buy the weekend leftovers for a discount???

Desperate for suggestions - First wedding anniversary somewhat near Madison, CT.

I second Cafe Routier. Keep in mind, Seasonal menu changes; website may not be current.

Miller's (Stratford, CT) secret spices revealed

I was so excited to hear this news that I called Annie directly at her Cigar Shop in Southbury. (The number is on their website.) She was so nice and told me that I was welcome to drive up to her store and buy the spice rub instead of ordering direct online. I surprised my sister with one bag for Christmas and bought one for myself too. My sister ordered a trimmed and rolled pork butt from Liscio's Meat Land. It was about 4.5 lbs. He trimmed the fat and it was tied beautifully. While at Liscio's, my sister and the butcher discussed Millers, and the Liscio guy was telling her how so many of his customers come in asking about the Miller-style pork roast. He thought it was referred to as the "Black Wunder." He was going to try to call Annie to see if he could sell her product in his market. He remembers the Miller roasts as well and said how he used to sell Miller hot dogs at his market but now has to make his own. Anyway, she made us dinner tonight, and it was incredible, just as we remembered. I have attached a few photos. YUMMMMY. And, by the way, the roast was cooked to 172 at 2 hours and up to 190 at 2.5 hours, but super tender and delicious! Order some of the spice rub if you never experienced it. Their recipes are on her website. www.wunderrub.com

Bless You for sharing. I may have to call to see if I can drive up to Southbury to pick up right away!

Feast of the 7 Fishes -- Fairfield Cty

Try Ralph n Riches in Bridgeport. I know they do Sunday Sauce; wouldn't surprise me if they do it.

New BBQ/Tex-Mex in Milford, CT

Yes, to the old Japanese Restaurant, Yoshida, across from X-Pect. Taking a long time.

New Haven : need recs for variety and a great seafood/raw bar?/lobsters

Especially high for crabs but I thought other prices were ok for other items given it was Norwalk.
