Scampo last Sunday evening report
We went last weekend and it wasn't what I expected. The atmosphere is more like a casual dining/upscale pizza parlor kind of place. We started with one of the bread selections, roti with curried chicken and it arrived about a half hour later, sans chicken. For the entree, we ordered the Lady Lobster which the waiter said was a 2lb. lobster, but after we questioned the portion size, admitted it was only 1 - 1 1/4lbs. We also ordered the 6 oz. steak which was tasty, but is served pre-sliced, There is a very lively bar scene.
Best butter with your bread?
The butter at Excelsior is always room temperature so it spreads easily and is lightly sprinked with salt. I love it, and their breadbasket, too.
Butcher in Metro West
Dover Market in Dover Center has a butcher and excellent quality meats. Also, Whole Foods in Framingham has a large variety of meat, all top quality and everything is wrapped in paper, not plastic.
Morton's or Capital Grille...best steak?
I prefer the Capital Grille steak, but I miss their cottage fries/onion strings side dish which isn't on the menu anymore.
Croissants!
I get mine from Costco (12 for $4.99). I bake them in my oven for about 5 minutes and they are delicious warm - crusty and flaky, but not greasy. They are made with real butter and can be frozen and reheated whenever you want one. I have tried many bakeries, but these are the best.
Metrowest Addition
I had lunch at Sel de la Terre, Natick and had a delicious burger and side of shoestring fries. A bread basket was brought to the table when we sat down. My husband had the pheasant pate appetizer and said it was excellent. The restaurant was very crowded and service was slow, but we'll definitely go back again.
Konditor Meister or Montilio's?
I prefer Montilios. The frosting is old fashioned sweet, but not cloying or greasy and the cake is a good texture, not dry. Konditor Meister is more bland, IMO.
Help - Lunch near the water?
We had a very enjoyable lunch at Miele, in the Intercontinental Hotel, and are planning to go back with friends who are visiting Boston. Beautiful harbor views, good food and wine in a French country atmosphere.
sweet tooth bakery in south boston
I tried the white cupcakes with white frosting and they were terrible. Even my kids wouldn't eat them.
Birthday Cake for Daughter
I'm not a fan of party favors either. I recently had a birthday cake from Montillios in Quincy and it was really good.
