Serbian Food?

I went there a few months ago and thought the food was mediocre, at best. Maybe its because I've had home made Serbian food.

Best coffee in New York City?

I like the coffee at 9th street, personally. I think its Intelligentsia. Stumptown is ok, but not as complex and rich. Maybe it was the blend I had. the FInca at Intelligentsia is the best coffee ever.

White Plains for lunch

agree with debmom on MELT. Great sandwiches, not big on atmosphere. What about Tango Grill?

Looking for a bakery in or near White Plains for tonight??

LOL at Lulu's always running out of stuff ie; babka. I Have to admit whatever they do have on hand is very exceptional, but you should call beforehand. And like most bakeries, they probably aren't open on Mondays.

I am not terribly crazy about Enricos and would recommend the pastries at City Limits over them any day. You can tell they use sub-par chocolate and their cupcakes taste waxy. Their breads are okay, but the cakes have much to be desired even their "whipped cream" tasted artificial. Not sure if it is.

That being said, I would go to Kneaded Bread they are probably open today. Or City Limits, they make a decent ganache cake and you can tell its made with high quality chocolate.

New Japanese in Mamaroneck...and Haiku!

I like the Japanese curry they sell at the Supermarket on Central Avenue in Scarsdale. They have fried chicken cutlets bathed in Japanese curry...yum!

Dobbs & Bishop, new Bronxville cheese shop, now open

oh, this is great news! Is there a great wine shop (other than Zachy's) nearby???

Porchetta...is it worth the wait?

Its impossibe to get a seat in this joint...just curious if any CH'ers think the food is worth all the hassle?
Thanks!

Moscato in Scarsdale - Stay Away

If I were you -- this is something I wouldve notified the owner of. I don't think theyd be happy to hear this and I bet they would undoubtedly take your side and give you the benefit of the doubt. I see your frustration, but I would try my best to not let one rotten apple spoil it for you forever!

Crumbs Coming to New Canaan

Agreed. Crumbs is disgusting. Too sweet and factory produced in some warehouse in the city. I wouldve much prefered a smaller, independent bake shop like Kneaded Bread or Sono -- a place where they make their stuff fresh.

Best Red Velvet Cake in Hudson Valley Area?

If you go to Lulu's don't be fooled by their take on a red velvet cake -- it automatically comes with vanilla kind of frosting but NOT cream cheese - -you have to tell them you want cream cheese frosting or you will be disappointed.

My brother-in-law had one for his 50th birthday party and they put some kind of crunchy candy praline pecans in the cream cheeese in it it was out of this world.

American Bistro "Bail Out" Menu

Thats a great deal...I hope this resturant isnt like the many that are closing...I always liked this place!

Good restaurant in White Plains or Tarrytown for rehearsal dinner?

What about Blue Hill? They do private parties

Delicious Thai in Tuckahoe

That's great to hear! We weren't really crazy about Garlic & Pepper...and I love green papaya salad! Do you know if they deliver?

Eastchester Fish Gourmet

My only memory if this place is when they put FENNEL in my lobster roll!!! Call me a purist or old fashioned but for someone who cant get enough of these things on the Cape...we never went back. Maybe we should give it another chance but I think they play with their fish too much. its ok when it works, but unfortunately for me, it never has at this place. sometimes less is more.

Nice restaurant for 40th Bday in S. Westchester

I think X20 will wow them the most...not sure if theres much going on in that downtown yonkers area late at night though...what about the restaurants in Tarrytown, near you?
There's Chiboust which is quite exquisite but it may be too small for your party... and there's Main Street Cafe, not high end but pretty good food. Also, theres a lot going on in White PLains

What other restaurants would I like?

I love Chavin in Port Chester, but theres a better chicken place/Peruvian in Port Chester, I forgot the name but if you search the threads you will find it.

Lazy Boy has good burgers, but I lean towards Piper's Kilt -- you will find its kinda split on this board -- at least I think.

For pizza you have to try the pizza place in Scarsdale by the train station, theres a thread on it here, but for some reason I cant seem to find it

Cupcakes in Westchester

Agreed. The cupcakes at Lulu are way better than the ones at Flour and Sun, especially the Whopper cupcake. The hummingbired at Four and Sun was ok, but the cupcakes at Flour and Sun are decent at best. I think they are cheaper than the cupcakes at Lulu though.

Best Cuban in Westchester?

Not really. To be honest I've only had one meal there, the ropa vieja and tostones. The ropa vieja didnt melt in my mouth as expected and the sauce had too much tomato paste (or sauce) in it and didnt have the sazon flavors I like with cilantro and recaito, etc... just didnt have the kick and tasted, dare I say -- "gentrified" and I've had better tostones, crispier, nice and salty, in cuchifritos in the Bronx or upper Manhattan. That's just my opinion.
I love the Cubanos at Colonial cafe in Pellham parkway in the Bronx -- our go to place for Carribean closest to Westchester. They toast their bread with mojito, so it has a nice garlicky flavor to it...Maybe theres something else out there but I haven't tried it.

Flames Steakhouse --- Why leave the neighborhood?

i still think that the steak at FLAMES is better than the steask at BLT!!!

Best Cuban in Westchester?

I second the Caridad in the Bronx for the best thing closest to Cuban in Westchester. i Just gave up on Westchester -- have tried ALL the above and never really satisfies my cravings for Cuban. BTW I am Cuban, born and raised in Miami if that means anything LOL

Cupcakes in Westchester

I picked up cupacakes at Flour and SUn bakery -- to report back, so far the vanilla icing is very sweet and the chocolate is good but their cake part of the cupcake is a kind of dry. I heard good things about the hummingbird so can't wait to try that! the cupcakes are cute and pretty though!

Lulu's in Scarsdale, NY.... Not Just Cakes!

I wonder if they make a banana cupcake with cream cheese or some kind of vanilla frosting and nuts on it -- saw it at an open house this weekend and they were GONE. We wanted to go back there and pick some up, but oddly enough, when we called to ask, the baker didnt remember if they made a cupcake like that or not. What on earth are they smoking in there, sugar!!!! We think it either came from Lulu or maybe Riviera, but it tasted to real/natural to come from Riviera. Maybe it was from the city?

Jade Garden Hartsdale, any info?

I am not crazy about Central Seafood -- something about imitation crab meat mixed with cheddar cheese on an open clam shell really bothered me. We also found that in this cold weather, a lot of the items that were supposed to be warm/hot were actually cold...I hope this new place is good!

Move over Sal's, All ' Antica Pizza in Scarsdale!

Hey Miki and all...tried the plain pie out of the oven last night. SUPERB!
All' Anticca = my favorite pizza place too! even better than the thin crust at napoletana in the city. The guys there are really friendly too! I don't see all the huype with Sal's, this place should have a line out the door! Thanks for the pics and the tip! your blog is fantastic...keep it up! and keep taking pictures ;0)

Lunch in Tarrytown, Pocantico Hills Area

Chiboust is pretty good...if you are willing to deal with slight attitude. I also like Lago di Como on Main Street. Also can't go wrong with Blue Hill if you're into that sort of thing.

Move over Sal's, All ' Antica Pizza in Scarsdale!

After seeing those mouth-watering pictures, I think I'm going to have to try this place and see if its really is that good! Thanks for the post and thanks for those pictures, Miki! Can't wait to try this place when I get home tonight!!!

Lobster in Westchester?

Eastchester Fish Gourmet isnt too bad. Some of their other dishes are really fussy, but the lobster is pretty straighforward and prepared perfectly, IMO.

Church Avenue Poulty Market

If this place is next to the CVS on Popham Rd. (?) or Garth Rd (?) on the bridge over the train tracks, then we picked up some items to go. Some random kid handed us a coupon on the street so we figured, why not?

The chicken was ok, but not as good as the chicken place on Garth Rd across the street from the banks (name is slipping me) Nothing really knocked my socks off. The macaroni and cheese was unsalted and bland, eh. If I'm going to waste my carbs on something, well then it better be worth it! The prepared salads were ok, but nothing I couldn't get at Boston Market, except with slightly better chicken. Nothing is better than the roasted brussel sprouts and the cole slaw at the other place on Garth Rd. I don't think we'll be going back.

Global Gatherings Update

Did this place really close? The food was not bad, actually. Slow service, but the home made potato chips made up for it.

Has anyone tried Rue des Crepes in Harrison?

Isn't there a rue in the city? is this a franchise?
