hearty korean food in berkeley

Hey all,

Just starting school at Berkeley, and my Korean mother is so sick of generic American food. She says she refuses to have another meal that isn't good solid korean food. So my lovely fellow chowhounds, where is the best place you've had hearty spicy korean stews? Jigaes, jjam bbong, korean stews that are flavorful and spicy and maybe seafoody. Help me help my mother!

Soho/nolita comfort food?

Any good comfort food around Prince and Broadway? We were going to go to Arturo's but one of my friends apparently doesn't like it, boo. Alternatively, if people have recs for other pizza places other than Lombardi's in that neighborhood I would be really grateful.

Babbo tasting menus advice

Thanks for your advice. We did try the beef cheek ravioli. It was really really yummy!

Babbo tasting menus advice

Thanks so much for your advice and the links! We went and on your advice avoided the tasting menus. Everything was completely delicious!

Babbo tasting menus advice

Hey guys,

We're headed to Babbo tonight and its our first time. But we're torn on which tasting menu to get! Everyone says the pasta tasting menu is excellent, but my one friend is pushing for the traditional tasting menu. Has anyone tried one/both and have strong opinions either way? Thanks for your help in advance!

UWS dinner

I'm going to see Dark Knight in IMAX (finally!) with a friend, and we're looking for a dinner place somewhere near the Lincoln Square movie theater. I've never eaten on the UWS before... Any recommended favorites? Any kind of cuisine is fine, I'm very open to all foods :)

Chinatown delivery?

Are there any good places in Chinatown that deliver?? I'm starving, but none of the places I usually go to have delivery! I'm not too far (Mulberry and Prince) but it's far enough so that I don't want to walk there in this weather. Someone help! I'm craving Chinese food.

chinatown duck meal

Hey guys,

My grandma and mom are visiting today from out of town, and my grandma wants to go experience one of those ducks hanging in the window chinatown places. I searched the boards already but I just wanted to get more updated/specific recommentations. Where's the best peking duck you've ever had there? It seems like Peking Duck House is popular, but the reviews have been mixed lately so I'm not sure about it. Nice Restaurant is supposed to have really good duck too right?

The place can be crowded and doesn't have to be fancy, but no total holes in the walls please!

*Edit
Does Amazing 66 is have good peking duck or roast duck in anyone's experience? Thanks in advance for any help!

East Coast Pride - HELP

Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions, guys! I think we put up a great fight. I took them to Bleecker St. Pizza, L'arte del gelato (which was really good), Nick's pizza, Ali Baba, H&H Bagels, Theresa's Polish American Restaurant, and Jean-Georges for the prix-fixe lunch. Everything was so great and I learned a lot about this new city of mine. They loved the food here, and didn't want to leave :D

Best coffee shop to study in?

Hey guys!

Roommate and I are trying desperately to find a good place to study for LSAT (ugh) and we are at a total loss. Starbucks is way too noisy, Barnes is usually so crowded on nights/weekends that we can't get a seat. We live on the UES (82nd and 3rd) so anywhere somewhat closeby would be WONDERFUL, but we're willing to consider anywhere on the east side at this point! (Or anywhere we can get to easily by the 456 or 79 crosstown bus). HELP!

Street carts open today?

This cart is run by the Vendley brothers and is located at Wooster and Prince Street right outside the Camper shoe store (so I've heard, anyway). Open Mon.-Fri., 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Apparently their carne asada is their specialty, hope you get a chance to go soon :D

Street carts open today?

I'm finally doing it - I've heard tell of all the wonderful street food in this newly adopted city of mine, and today I want to start making the trek to the Kwik Meal Cart (45th and 6th) and Calexico in Soho. Important question though - Are they open on New Year's Day?? Someone please help, I'm starving...

East Coast Pride - HELP

Moderately priced dinner stuff is cool too if you have faves. These guys love flavorful food btw, even if it's greasy.

East Coast Pride - HELP

Hey guys,

I have 6 cousins visiting from California and they are trying to claim that LA has better food than NYC! They've thrown down the gauntlet so I have 3 days (Sun, Mon and Tue) to convince them they are completely absurdly wrong. But I've only lived in the city for a few months and I don't know the best places!

So this is where you come in. What are the must-try places in Manhattan that I can use to WIN this thing? Nothing too pricey (like Gramercy Tavern is out of the question I think). Quintessential East Coast/NY food would be great. Especially:

1) Best pizza (Ray's right? I heard the one on 11th St and something Ave.is good... I tried Lombardi's and wasn't that impressed. Any other place?) - preferably in Manhattan.

2) Best fried chicken

3) Best bagels

4) Best moderately priced lunch place

5) Any other fave winners you can think of (burgers, etc.)

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide!

Chocolate covered espresso beans

Ooooh, how intriguing. I think maybe I'll try the new UWS location. Thank you for your suggestion!!

Chocolate covered espresso beans

Help! I'm finishing up my Christmas shopping and I'm trying to find some really great chocolate covered espresso beans for my mom's present (she's impossible to shop for but is absolutely in love with these particular sweets, thank god). Have you guys had any great experiences with any gourmet store that sells them, or have any suggestions for great chocolate places in Manhattan that carry these? Even lower end is fine as long as they're tasty. I'll try Vosges but I'm not sure they have them...

Upper East Side newbie

Thanks guys! Feel free to keep any recs coming, I love finding new neighborhood places to eat :D

Upper East Side newbie

building #217 I think? it's between 2nd and 3rd :) All these sound awesome, I'll definitely give them a try, esp annie's and jackson hole which i've heard are good. People I know keep scaring me, saying all the best places are downtown and the good places on the UES are too pricey. But you guys are quelling my fears!

Upper East Side newbie

Hey guys, I'm moving to the UES (82nd and 3rd) soon and I just want to get an idea of the best eats in the area if people have favorites to recommend? Breakfast, brunch, dinner, cafes or bakeries, whatever you guys totally love... And I'm on a budget, so entrees in the $10-25 range would be awesome (although if something pricier but out of this world comes to mind, please chime in!). Especially if there's a good Indian place around btw, I'm a sucker for samosas :)

Thanks in advance wonderful fellow hounds!
