'Hound Favoritism

May I quickly remind everyone that when we were first asking Chowhounder's how to build this site, it was made very clear to us that favoritism has no place in Chowhound. Yet, the ability to quickly scan threads to see if their favorite hounds are posting is at the top of almost everyone's wish list.

We'll build the site however you'd like, but I'd appreciate some clarification.

San Francisco - Bad Experience at DiMaggio's

I went there last night for an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend. While the prices were quite high for us, we found the service exemplary, almost to the point where it was a joke how often they came by.

I would imagine the difference being that we were there on a Monday and it wasn't particularly crowded.

OK, *Why* has CNET take a step backwards?

The bottom line is that the software isn't done yet and we're also not particularly happy with the design. The issue is time.

Rest assured that we aren't going to leave it like this and that's why my name is on this post, not Chowhound Engineering.

This is new site is not working well for me

This makes me smile, good to see Rails developers posting on the site. We're aware of how easy it would be to make the topics per page a user-selected option, but there are implications with the amount of extra caching that needs to be done to handle it. Head over to my site if you wanna talk more Rails: http://www.pjhyett.com

Do you like the current interface?

Hi folks,
I say this with a tremendous amount of respect for the community you helped to build on Chowhound, but if you actually enjoyed using the previous software, then there was absolutely nothing we could have done to make the transition any less abrupt than it was.

The old system was a simple piece of code that was never meant to handle the load that Chowhound put on it and was a perfect example of what a user interface should _not_ be.

Things I don't like about the new site

Hello everyone,
Understand that what you're seeing now is not 100% finalized. The engineering and design teams both understand that this is an iterative process and we're taking all of your feedback seriously. Hang tight as a handful of things that you're asking for are rolled out in the next few days and weeks.

Things I don't like about the new site

The first time you go to a topic, all of the posts are new, so it seemed a bit overkill to label them as such. Any subsequent visits to the same topic will have new posts labeled (if any exist).

Post Count Refresh?

The number is based off of the topics, the "posts" text needs to be changed.

Date and Time

Currently, the date headers on the boards are showing in UTC.

This oversight will be fixed soon.
