UC Davis's Honeybee Research Fund
For Mother’s Day I wanted to donate to a cause my mom could get behind. She’s an avid gardener and loves bees, so I was hoping to find a charity working toward saving the little guys. After searching on Google, I found what I was looking for: The UC Davis Honeybee Research Fund helps support the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility, one of the largest of its kind in North America. The staff investigates the possibility of sustainable pollination, while also examining the disappearance of bee colonies. The Research Fund doesn’t have anything fancy set up to send a gift card or the like, but I printed out the confirmation of my donation and stuffed it into my own card. Mom loved it.

"The program's greatest strength lies in the diversity of the staff,"
What has minority/gender/whatever got to do with scientific research? Sounds like typical UC political correctness. Does "diversity" extend to Republicans? They seem to be under-represented within academia.
It's likely that "the program's greatest strength lies in the diversity of the staff" refers to a diversity of specialties and academic backgrounds, rather than ethnic/gender/political diversity. For instance, they may well have folks with decades of experience in apiculture but no PhD, along with others who trained in entomology and have a string of degrees and publications. Class (ooh, we don't have social classes in the US! Baloney.) and academic diversity are important factors in the strength of a program such as this, but then you wouldn't have the straw man you invented out of a single phrase.
