All-Clad Asparagus Pot
As everyone thought that my last pick was a little … indulgent, I figured it might be fun to continue with more “what ifs.” These are not items I have, nor could ever fit into my tiny apartment, but I think there is something wonderfully 1999 about an asparagus cooker. Imagine having an entire pot just for steaming your favorite vegetable! Asparagus is mine; if you prefer artichokes, take a look at this artichoke holder. A bit more economical in terms of space and money, it keeps your artichoke from drowning or browning on one side.

I can make one of these with a few coat hangers and a piece of chicken wire for under $5. Besides -- the tastiest asparagus is roasted!
I agree that roasted - or better yet, grilled - asparagus is better than steamed. But I actually did indulge myself in one of these when someone gave me a gift certificate to Bloomingdale's.
I used it twice and never again, because while it looks great, once the asparagus is cooked and tender it's incredibly awkward to get it out of the wire steaming cage without breaking off the tips. The picture shown above shows full-length stalks, but properly trimmed ones (with the bottoms broken off at the natural break point) only come 2/3 of the way up the cage.
