Get Serious with Surfas

The increased popularity of the culinary arts seems to have spawned a new kitchen supply store or website on every street corner and available URL. But before there were Rachael Ray–approved pans and silicone-coated everything, Surfas Restaurant Supply was serious about anything to do with the kitchen. The Los Angeles store, originally only for professionals, was opened to the public a few years ago, and Surfas Online quickly followed. What the site lacks in usability or good looks, it makes up for in quality and breadth. With anything from terrine molds to those cookie decorations you can’t seem to find anywhere else, you’ll be hard pressed not to find what you’re looking for.

This place is awesome. I pity those trying to navigate the website, though... it's a pain to find things and I seriously doubt it reflects all that they have in-store. The store itself doesn't have much charm (though the new cafe is great), but it seduces with its sheer range, quality and value.

The website never covers the vast glory that is Surfas. Too bad for those who can't go there in person, but web shopping is better than nothing. I try to make trips at least once a month, if not more.

EVERYTHING. Syrups, spices, mustards, chocolate to bake and make treats with, chocolate to eat, pots pans utensils, flatware, bakeware, chefwear, japanese prep, mexican prep, chinese prep, all sorts of prep, coffe, ice cream, flours of all sorts, salts, honey, sugars, decorettes, commercial equipment, knives, sodas, melts, classes (classes, not glasses), cutting boards, cake boxes, candy boxes (to fill with your own goodies), pinping bags and tips, herbs, beans, legumes, rice and other pulses, cheeses, wine, beer, sausages, cured meats, books, storage, import items...and MORE.

Plus a nice cafe to eat at whillst you sit in awe looking at the bounty you just bought.
