Giada: Not a Porn Star
Giada De Laurentiis is setting the record straight. The Food Section has posted a quote from her dishy piece in the New York Post:
Porn? I’m not doing porn! What the hell are people talking about? The way we shot close-ups, I just wanted the food to look beautiful. I thought that’s what Americans loved about Italy—that it’s so sensual and romantic. [It’s not] PBS-style cooking. Lidia Bastianich, sorry, but [she’s] kind of boring. I mean, I love Lidia, but you can fall asleep watching her.
This is a low blow, considering that Bastianich is a respectable grandmother who doesn’t need to shake her tatas over a pot of meatballs to keep her fans interested. But hey, why shouldn’t Giada ooze sex appeal while she’s crushing tomatoes or posing with an eggplant? Why not look sexy when daydreaming about amaretti?
But with all the lovely ladies on the Food Network, where are the hunks? Isn’t it time for a ridiculously handsome male celebrity chef? Perhaps a strapping Harrison Ford–circa–Raiders of the Lost Ark type who gets really excited about venison? I personally have a soft spot for Jamie Oliver, but I wouldn’t put him in the “Stone Cold Fox” category. And TLC’s Take Home Chef is attractive, but really not as smokin’ as Giada, right? Is there a sexy male celebrity chef that I’m missing?

Can someone photoshop Mario Batali with ( only) an apron and orange crocs
Mario... naked? Gross....
Tom Colicchio: Not really a TV chef per say, but if HE had a show...you bet your bippy I'd watch!! That man does something to me. Yum!!!!
Alton Brown! Mmmmmmmm... Smart is sexy!
ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........................
WTF?
IS GAIDA EVEN A CERTIFIED CHEF? SHUT UP!! YOU ARE NOT EVEN WORTHY OF WEARING LIDIA'S APRON YOU PEZZONOVANTE!!!
I CANT STAND THESE FOOD NETWORK SHOWS WITH THEIR BLOUSE WEARING WOMWN WHO WONT EVEN BREAK A SWEAT COOKING. I EXTERNED @ ESCA(one of ms.Bastianich Establishments) THATS REAL FOOD! UNLIKE A DAMN TV SHOW WHERE THEY MAKE PESTO EVERY OTHER DAY! GIADA IS AN IDIOT! LIDIA BASTIANICH CAN COOK, BOTTOMLINE. I LOVE HER, HER SHOW, AND HER LEGACY. SHE IS MY UNOFFICIAL NONNA. AS FAR AS THE FOOD NETWORK GOES, PROPS TO TYLER, ALTON BROWN AND A FEW OTHERS FOR REAL COOKING. THE REST ARE GIMMICKS! Last but not least: CIA SUCKS AS WELL, THEY HAVE FAILED TO BE RELEVANT. ASK THEIR STUDENTS, THEY SUCK!
FYI: COLICCHIO IS A GREAT CHEF!!!
GRAMMERCY TAVERN IS MORE HIS LEGACY THAN 'DANNY MEYER'S'..
LOVE YOUR FOOD TOM.
GET TOMS BOOK "THINK LIKE A CHEF"...ITS A GREAT, SIMPLE BOOK, BEFORE COOKBOOKS BECAME UBIQUITOUS SPECTACLES!
Sorry, Giada. You'll have to deep six the Wonder Bra before you can be taken seriously.
>>I CANT STAND THESE FOOD NETWORK SHOWS WITH THEIR BLOUSE WEARING WOMWN WHO WONT EVEN BREAK A SWEAT COOKING.
Quite true. And there is yet another clevage enhanced female 'cook', have you seen her yet?
low cut blouses on food network attractive lady cooks?!?!? i'm shocked, shocked, i say.
but for people here to discount talent just because someone is attractive or successful is simply snobbery.
are we now supposed to check out the male cook's anatomy, or how his pants fit? (if so, we'll need new prep tables and stoves....) ;-) <is daniel craig cooking these days?> hah!
Personally jfood also finds Lidia a bit boring but loves watching her show for the sheer pleasure she brings. And if you ever meet her in the restaurant she is warm, gracious and loves chatting with the guests, but she will never host "Deal or No Deal." It's part of her personna.
Likewise he enjoys a few of the other chefs on FN, but also turns many of the shows off because he does not like watching the chef or the recipes being prepared are not of interest. Let's remember that Julia came across as a flake many time on the air ("the fish is a prop") but jfood could sit and watch her for hours. It was part of her appeal, you just never know where the show was going to go. And there are shows that jfood has watched on PBS that were in a language he could not understand, but he watched to see the technique and try to pick up any tidbit of knowledge.
But what jfood cannot stand more than anything are people who immediately throw any person under the bus because of their looks, whether good or bad. It is the ULTIMATE form of discrimination and bad taste. So if Giada was not attractive it would be OK? if Lidia looked like Raquel Welch she would not be a great chef? People who make these blanket comments about what they look like or what they wear should just shut up. They have nothing better to do with their than poke a stick in someone's eye.
Jfood watches the few remaining shows he likes on FN because he wants to learn about cooking, not to oogle over looks or judge whether the host is bubbly. He just wants to do better in the kitchen.
De Laurentiis studied at Le Cordon Bleu and worked at Spago, so she has actual credentials. And I don't see why she needs to "deep six the Wonderbra" to be taken seriously. You can be bangin' and a good chef and a good TV host all at once. The comment about Bastinach was a bit mean, but I agree with her larger point that Everyday Italian just has a lusher shooting style overall, which I enjoy.
And I'd totally jump Tyler Florence.
Let the food do the talking, everything else is secondary. Even the catty back-and-forth between the ladies.
Sidenote: GdL has got the best cleavage in television.
I'll make my same old case for Eric Ripert and Marcus Samuelson. Both hot. Both can cook for me anytime.
Defending oneself is fine, even if you are known as 'Chef Cleavage" For what it's worth, Giada's recipes usually turn out pretty good for me-end up just like I see them come out on the show.
But putting down a well-established industry queen like the Supreme Bastianich? -bad form, Giada. VERY bad form. Please, I hope she gets over the Hilton-esque immaturity and apologizes VERY publicly right away. Even though she is a good chef, in my mind, Giada has not yet earned the right to stand in Bastianich's shadow, or even be in the same room.
Oh, and just cause you gots big boobs doesn't mean you have to wear a low cut shirt and bend over the pasta machine a few extra times. If you want to be taken seriously as a chef, then act like a serious chef.
Giada has the ability, will eventually get the experience in cooking. A little humility will go a long way.
Giada's program is about titilation. The cooking is secondary.
Her recipes turned out well when I have tried them, which is more than I can say for Emril's crap.
People love watching Emril because of his personality and the presentation of the show. This is no different than Giada.
Heck , my favorite FN show is Diners, Drive Ins and Dives and Guy is a slob. Its all about the food. If I want to watch porn I have the internet.
I don't have a TV, so I can't comment on the shows. However from what I've seen in magazine's Todd English seems pretty sexy.
Am I the only one who thinks that Guy Fieri is kinda hot?
Hey Guys lets be clear here:
I am happy for Giada and her success.
I dont think that wearing provocative blouses takes away from her cooking.
Giada is a very beautiful specimen.
The thing that got me peeved was her audacity to put down Lidia. Thats disrespectful. Believe me, industry stalwarts like Mario, Mr.Ripert, Guy Savoy etc is probably shaking their heads n disgust.
But who knows, Newspapers print lies all the time, so for her sake, I hope it was a misprint.
Finally lets all stop railing on Giada about her boobs. Her cooking is not that bad. I just think she needs to apologize.
And yes, this sunday, I will be watching Lidia on PBS.
Lets put this issue to bed.
I have a nice Prosecco, Some Prosciutto, and Caponata thats calling my name, I gtg.

No edit button? Please ignore the apostrophe in my post.
I think Giada is delightful, but Mario Bertalli (sp?) has a better show. And Alton Brown is a great favorite. I just wish they'd cut the comedy and get serious.
Does anybody really think that Giada choses what she wears on the show. The producers do that, and they know that she brings in the demographic that is not normally there, young males.
Dinwiddie, I would be shocked if Giada actually got young men to watch her show. They might download some silly YouTube vids of her and make some jokes with their frat brothers, but, otherwise, they are mush more likely to watch Alton Brown (and possibly Bobby Flay).
Giada ia a big boob. Anyone who is not riveted watching a master like Lidia cook is not really interested in food. And to diss her publicly!Shame
Giada, bad, bad, bad...I thought you had more class and were more discreet. Lidia's comment is truly disrespectful, I have lost all respect for you. I don't care what you wear or not, I like the food and recipes and the industry.
Please let's all focus on the important things, not on fashion and skin....who cares?
Sorry for the Triple Post guys, my WiFi was acting up and my last post went up 3x.
My apologies.
Wow, I've been a huge Giada fan since she debuted on FN many years ago, both as a youngish male AND as a (former) professional cook. But I have to say this is truly ridiculous. Whoever said she sounds like Paris Hilton is right on... is she still bitter?

I doubt very seriously that her comment was regarding Lidia personally or her amazing chef-fu. When I read the quote, I assumed that she was talking about the way the show is filmed and it didn't even occur to me that Giada was insulting Lidia personally until I continued reading the article. Also, who's responsible for putting the brackets in the original quote? It can change the meaning entirely if it's incorrect.
Male cooks - Tyler Florence=smoking hot.
