Some that are reliable, some to avoid and some I have on my list to try <BR><BR> The Chronicle has a good neighborhood guide that includes restaurants and other information <A href="http://www.sfgate.com/travel/neighborhoods/sf/castro/" hasbox="2">The Chronicle on the Castro</A> <BR><BR>A few of the places that are average at best but long-time neighborhood fixtures include Bagdad Cafe, Orphan Andy's and Sparky's. Best left for those times nothing else is open.

  • 1. Woodhouse Fish Company

    Woodhouse serves New England classics such as clam chowder, lobster rolls, littleneck clams and fried whole-belly Ipswich clams. Occasionally steamers are a special. There are also a few Northern California dishes with Dungeness crab such as Dungeness Louis Roll, crab cakes, cioppino, and a fresh artichoke stuffed with crab and bay shrimp

Vegetarian and gluten-free dishes are available. The menu is seasonal and changes weekly. Chef/owner Traci Higgins was named one of the “Top 5 Personal Chefs” in 2006 for her organic delivery service Dining In Snacks include vegan and wheat free cookies by The Inspired Cookie, Kind bars, yogurt pretzels, trail mix, WOW cookies and brownies, POP chips, Lundberg Brown rice chips and more.

The chefs, Richard Rosen and Gaines Dobbins, have worked with Nancy Oakes, first at L’Avenue and then Boulevard Restaurant .
