From Chef Clogs to Dancing Shoes
Still hungry for media attention, Rocco DiSpirito has agreed to appear on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars. Eater shares the details:
Baby faced celeb chef Rocco Dispirito will be competing on a ballroom dancing show with other C-listers Susan Lucci, Toni Braxton and Lance Bass. Remember when we said 2008 would be the second coming of old Rocco? Well, we never said it would be pretty.
But in all fairness, if DiSpirito wants to expose himself to the nonfoodie world in a major way, he’s on the right track. According to the Canadian Press, last May’s two-night finale for the show pulled in almost 20 million viewers each night. And speaking from personal experience, I wouldn’t be surprised if my mother and my grandmother—who are far more interested in this dancing competition than they are in the Food Network—fall in love with him and buy me his cookbooks for Christmas.
The Associated Press lists Rocco’s competitors:
The other contestants are Cloris Leachman, Kim Kardashian, Ted McGinley, Brooke Burke, NFL champ Warren Sapp and two Olympic athletes: Misty May-Treanor, who won her second gold medal for beach volleyball at this year’s summer games in Beijing, and Maurice Greene, who won two gold medals in track at the 2000 games in Sydney.
Rounding out the cast are … Cody Linley of ‘Hannah Montana’ and comedian Jeffrey Ross.
Eater commenter TipperGal isn’t terribly interested in Rocco, but has an intriguing celeb-chef nomination for next season: “Now Bourdain on Dancing with the Stars…. That would be interesting.”
