Teen Top Chefs

Bravo wants kids to show off their knife skills. The television network that produces Top Chef has announced a version of the show for 13- to 16-year-olds: Top Chef Junior. Yes, that’s right, teenagers in faux-hawks competing in sweaty kitchens to see who’s best at chopping and playing with fire. The gastro pups will have their revenge.

Eater theorizes on whether the show will soar or flop. On the one hand, Eater writes, “[I]t’s always fun to watch kids break under the pressure.” But on the other, “[T]hese mini-chefs will be highly unskilled.” I bet there are plenty of teen cooks out there who would beg to differ with that last proclamation.

Comments

A fair number of chefs start really young -- a couple of past Top Chef contestants started cooking in restaurant kitchens in their teens. So they won't necessarily be unskilled.
