Feta cheese, it seems, has a new secret power: It can help your body fend off food poisoning.
There is a catch, and considering the advice given to pregnant women in the United States, it’s an ironic one—the feta has to be made from raw milk for the friendly bacteria in the cheese to produce the naturally occurring antibiotics that fight off more dangerous bacteria like listeria.
Although the results seem preliminary, the news certainly is cause for celebration in some circles.
