A "No More Tears" Onion?
The terrifying-sounding science of “gene silencing”using RNA interference to shut down specific genesmay be bearing some serious fruit if a recent report by ScienceDaily is to be believed.
By tampering with powers hitherto reserved for YHWH and switching off the genes that give onions their sulfur-based eye-watering power, a Dr. Colin Eady of New Zealand and his collaborators in Japan have whipped up what appears to be a tear-proof onion.
Would you like to learn more about this story? Well, quoth ScienceDaily, in my favorite reference to a fictional-sounding magazine in quite some time: “Further information is available in the International onion trade journal Onion World.”
