Bread Mountains and Salmon Seas

British artist Carl Warner makes landscapes out of food. Sure, we’ve all stuck a broccoli tree in our mashed potatoes next to a gravy lake and called it art, but Warner’s photographs go way beyond playing with your food. There’s a Parmesan village, a sea of salmon, and a winter scene of (appropriately enough) cold cuts.

Warner constructs the scenes on an 8-foot-by-4-foot table, and employs food stylists to help him. “Willy Wonka and the Wizard of Oz are definitely a big influence,” he says. “My favorite scene is Broccoli Forest as it raised the bar on how realistic I could make them look.”

Commenter PJ at Neatorama says, “This has to be the first artist that doesn’t smoke pot. How do we know? The food is still there.”
