Every month, the contributors on our Chowhound discussion board about home cooking vote on a cookbook to spend a month making recipes from and discussing on a dedicated thread on the board. Anyone can join this collaborative cooking project called Cookbook of the Month—all they need to do is create a CHOW account to be able to post on the boards, and then get cooking!
This month's selection is The Splendid Table by Lynne Rossetto Kasper, host of the Splendid Table radio show. This book first came out in 1992 and won the James Beard Cookbook of the Year Award the following year for its excellent exploration of recipes from the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. Chowhounds report that it contains killer recipes for lasagne with wild mushrooms and hot caramelized pears with prosciutto.
Check out the Chowhound Cookbook of the Month archive to get a feel for the project, then jump into the October Cookbook of the Month discussion thread.
WonderPen, you can vote on the November cookbook of the month here:

And keep an eye on the Home Cooking board to see which is selected. The announcement usually goes up several days to a week before the first of the month.

Love her radio show - must have come after the cookbook. When do we know what the November cookbook will be?

Splendid choice! An undervalued cookbook that offers tremendous rewards to the serious cook/eater, and few of the recipes require skill than an experienced amateur possesses. The Cardinal's Ragu and the Torta Barozzi are not in classes by themselves, they are in universes of their own. My wife, a stellar Italian cook, was staggered by the Cardinal's Ragu (i find a drop of cream at the end softens and broadens the flavors) when i made it for her. And i have made more than 100 different flourless/small flour chocolate cakes over the years. Nothing comes close to the Barozzi. Thank you for bringing this marvelous cookbook into the limelight.
