I love Vienna Beef Chicago dogs, but unfortunately for me there are no reasonably distanced places that serve them near me in Los Angeles. There are 2 dogs reasonably close by I go to sometimes. "Pablo" serves bacon wrapped hot dogs from his cart that I get with everything:
chunky fresh guacamole, grilled onions and peppers and he squirts some mayo, ketchup and mustard. He also stocks Mexican sourced sodas. There's another cart in Lennox that serves some interesting variations of bacon wrapped hot dogs. The best one for me has grilled crushed pineapple, cheese and some kind of sauce made with peppers. That cart has versions with chorizo and another with grilled ham added to the bacon wrapped hot dog. I keep thinking I'd like to try chopping up pickled rakkyo (japanese scallions) and use that as a relish for some sort of hot dog.-COLLAPSE

  • The best hot dog I've had recently was with leftover Kung pao chicken. Really good Kung pao. It was fantastic

  • Im gonna try one of these, the mexican one maybe ;-)

  • ewy..all that crap on a dog you cant taste the dog let alone hold the thing ..keep things simple and go to nathans they do have homemade onion topping and good old kraut and great deli mustard

  • this made me moan

  • Wow that looks awesome, I know of a place here in Vegas that does something similar and its called Relishlv.com they make gourmet Hotdogs. The best one they have is the Elvis made with bananas.

  • The bar is called the Filling Station in Rockford, IL. The sandwich is the Mad Dog.

  • The best hotdog I've ever tasted is served at a local bar, &nd I'll admit up front that it's a heart attck on a plate: A quarter pound hotdog, split down the length and stuffed with pepperjack cheese, then completely wrapped in bacon, and deep fried until the bacon is crispy. Served on a french roll type of bun with a little mustard. OMG, it's delish!!!!

  • I ate half of all of them. I think they were Applegate and Nathans.

  • What kind of dogs are you using for the photos?

  • Folks, hot dogs are like Bloody Maries. Everyone likes em
different. It's beautiful and delicious. Some of the best are born out of
necessity (meaning what is in your fridge).
The regional passion is amazing as well!
I go Kraut and really nice mustard if offered, but I
LOVE trying what ever TF locals do to their dogs
    when travling.

  • One word - nasty. :-P

  • Nothing beats a Chicago dog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thomas64, I agree, especially the "Street meat" (aka road kill?). None of these are cool but definitely crazy. What's next? Chopped up Reese Cups?
Some things are best left with mustard, kraut and maybe chili.

And, mods, can we get the electronics spammer off of these posts?

  • I guess I'm in the minority. Am I the only one who thinks these hot dogs look hideous? And no, I'm not going to try any of them. In this case, perception is everything.

  • Yum! This gives me a great idea for our Labor Day cookout - a hot dog bar. I'm making my shopping list now.

  • My favorite hot dog is topped with homemade chili and coleslaw, finished with chopped sweet onions. Chicago Dogs rock, too.

  • A little hot dog place in Delaware used to serve a Texas Tommy: their version was a split, grilled hot dog with bacon, cheese and pepper relish. My favorite hot dog still.

  • I kid you not, maple syrup on a hot dog is bliss.

  • huh, why the heck would Papa Jim's Exotic Hot Dogs ever close?

  • Those mostly look really good. But "Frankly" (pun intended), you really can't beat a good hot dog with just mustard and onion. If the meat is good and it is prepared right, too many ingredients hide the real hot dog flavor.

  • that spicy pickle dog looks AMAZING!

  • Fried Egg plus hotdog = amazing. Add a little crisp bacon and maybe a few leaves of fresh parsley and this dog will be catepulted into awesomeness. Im trying this TONIGHT :-)
