Every month participants in the Chowhound Home Cooking board choose a cookbook, cook from it, and post their findings on the board. It's called Cookbook of the Month. They've been doing it for years (the archive is here).
This month the COTM is World Vegetarian by Madhur Jaffrey, and as smtucker notes, "Oh my goodness this book is ample. Even the librarian noted that this must be a lot of vegetable recipes!" Hope you like your veggies; if so, start cooking and join the thread here.
This month there is also a companion Cookbook of the Month: Paletas by Fany Gerson. So if you're ready, jump in!
World Vegetarian is an amazing work, just stick with it and you will discover simple, wonderful ways of preparing vegetarian dishes. This once-wished-for tome has graced my bookshelf for years and I smile inside whenever I catch a glimpse of it, remembering adventures together. A must-have for committed vegetarians! It also does great double duty as a flower press!
I own almost all of her cookbooks including this one. And I've tried pretty much everything in those - you CANNOT go wrong with Madhur. All of the recipes turn out exactly as she describes them, and as you'll find in some of the best restaurants in India.
World Vegetarian is one of my favorite references !!
