New Finds: Glass Drinking Straws

Plastic drinking straws suck, figuratively as well as literally, because they’re made of polypropylene, which is number 5 among the plastic identification codes and not accepted by most recycling centers.

GlassDharma’s drinking straws are made of borosilicate, the strong kind of glass used in vintage Pyrex. Think about how tough your old pie plate is; that’s how strong these straws are. They leach no plastic toxins and can be used over and over again; in fact, if they ever break, GlassDharma will replace them for free.

  • "if they ever break"? god knows how many bodum mugs i've broken, and very painfully so, at $35 a pair. but i still love them for morning lattes. :D

  • They are pretty, but I like to chew on my straws.

  • and cleaning them? p.i.t.a. i'm a straw fan, but like the fact that i can just dump them. i hardly think the plastic straws "leach" toxins. also, for 20 bucks, i could probably buy 4,000 bendy straws. ;-).

i do love my borosilicate ("bodum" brand) coffee cups, though.
