Whole Foods Takes On Frankenfoods

FoodQualityNews.com reports that Whole Foods is
attempting to independently verify that its private-label products are free of genetic modifications. The verification seal should start appearing in October of this year. Certain foods are going to be trickier than others to present to consumers in a GM-free format; to quote the article: “GM soy, for example—the most widely grown GM crop—now accounts for 90 percent of soy produced in the US.”

An interesting wrinkle about the story and the announcement: At no point does either the reporter or Whole Foods explain exactly what’s so bad about GM foods. Not that there’s no case to be made against them … but this might be a good place to make that case.
