Samphire Is Ripe for the Picking

Green Drake has a craving for samphire, a succulent herb that goes by many other names: glasswort, salicornia, sea bean, sea asparagus. Green_Drake wants to pick it somewhere around Boston, or, failing that, to buy it. It does grow along the Massachusetts coastline, says globalgourmand, who was told about it by local foraging expert Russ Cohen, who leads foraging walks around New England for enthusiastic pickers.

It can also be found at local Whole Foods for about $10 a pound, usually labeled “sea beans.” silver queen has seen it at the Fresh Pond Whole Foods.
