CHOW Tour Oakland: The Beer Revival

Many people don't realize that Oakland was a big brewing town all the way up until the late ’50s. Now, it's turning right back into one. At the heart of this revival is Adam Lamoreaux's Linden Street Brewery. While it may be tiny, it's the first production brewery to open in Oakland in about 50 years. We check out Linden Street, taste Adam's old-timey lagers, and also go to a couple of Oakland's coolest beer bars (where Adam delivers kegs by bicycle!): Beer Revolution and the Trappist.

with all due respect to Pacific Coast Brewing, it has been my understanding that they brew from kits, pre-processed ingredients. They have the full license but not the full equipment with full legal authoriztion. But they brew in Oakland, as does Linden Street, the only fully licensed breweries in Oakland for now. The news is the first fully equipped brewery with the quality virtues of controlling the entire grain to beverage process. The brewer suffered through extensive bureaucracies to get there, let him have his year in the limelight. ---ajh-COLLAPSE

  • no mention of Pacific Coast Brewery? HIPSTER FAIL

  • Nice video highlighting what is happening with beer in Oakland. I love what Adam has done for Oakland and its revival of the brewing scene. When I go to Beer Revolution my go-to beer is always a Linden St. Common Lager and/or Black Lager, they are both delicious ;)

  • That makes hungry ... and thirsty too!

  • I gotta say this series is making me fall a little bit in love with Oakland. It has really done a nice job capturing the quirky charm of the city that I love.
