Tofu Barred from Plates

Humorless Division of Motor Vehicles officials in Colorado have nixed a seemingly innocent license plate endorsement of vegetable protein: “ILVTOFU.” The problem? The plate can be interpreted as “I LV TO FU,” wherein “FU” is … indiscreet. Or “street language for sex,” as DMV official Mark Couch quaintly puts it.

The license-plate owner is a 38-year-old mom who says tofu is a staple for her vegan family. To improve her mood after this snub, perhaps the vegan driver could try our Saag Tofu made with soy-gurt?

  • how about just LV TOFU
    still no good?

  • I eat tofu and I vote!

  • "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help you." Similar mentality to banning references to doo-wop music as ethnic slurs.
