La Tavernetta, a longtime hound hangout hidden away in Glendale, Queens, moved last fall into a roomier space in Forest Hills. It’s as good as ever, janie reports, turning out superior pastas, eggplant parmigiana, vegetable lasagne, and, especially, a huge sandwich of juicy grilled chicken, fresh mozzarella, and tomato, seasoned with shallot vinaigrette, on soft Italian bread. “Hands down the best grilled chicken hero ever,” she declares.
Prices have been raised, and janie wishes there were dinner specials; “their main entrees are kind of pricey now, for an everyday place.” But those sandwiches are still a decent deal. “Anyone in the Forest Hills/Kew Gardens area looking for good Italian should check out their new digs,” janie suggests.
