Behold: the finest Whole Foods signage that you've ever seen, which may well rank among the finest signage that you've ever seen in your life, period.
Austin-based artist Paul Maybury (whose non–Whole Foods credits include comics for Marvel and Dark Horse and the excellent Internet strip Party Bear) has posted a bunch of photos on his tumblr blog of the mind-blowing in-store signs he made for Whole Foods, including but not limited to creepy grandmas (pictured), belligerent Mr. T's (is there any other kind?), cupcake-vending Lenins, amazing-looking pig-leprechauns, lime-hawking Frida Kahlos, and specials-dispensing Andy Warhols.
Naturally, the (vaguely) controversial nature of the signs led to him, as he tells it, being pushed out of the company.

They're gonna win.
rthe sign you won't see at Whole Foods:
We will continue to sell Horizon dairy products even though they will be produced from cows feed GMO alfalfa. We essentially made a deal with Monsanto to not oppose GMO alfalfa.
Is it just me, or does the Granny Smith sign seem like those stems might actually be the visible portion of granny flipping us off from within her apple-fort?
Yeah, the man is definitely not whining. He's presenting his work and talking about the circumstances that surrounded it -- events that can and obviously did influence what he was creating.
ThxanGert, The artist is now whining. If you look at the images where he posted them, it reads (at least to me) as if he is documenting some early work with a sense of humor about where it took place and how it was received. I don't get the sense he is complaining, really, or regrets having left the job. And it is really fun work.
I came here expecting something along the same lines, Andytee. To the artist: Stop whining! The signage pictures are awesome, and I somehow doubt anyone with that much talent will be out of work for long.
These signs are awesome, but if you want to have a headline combining Whole Foods and Evil, their recent complicity regarding organic standards and GMO's comes to mind.
