Oatmeal for Total Morons

I saw a product in my local health food store last weekend that blew my mind with its lameness: Amy’s Organic Rolled Oats Hot Cereal Bowl. Imagine that! Frozen cooked oatmeal in its own little plastic bowl. Seriously, it is going to take you just as much time to open up the freezer, take it out, remove all the packaging, and defrost it in the microwave as it would to put non-instant rolled oats in a pot with a little water and boil them.

I was going to make a “what’s next?” joke, but I couldn’t even think of any food that’s easier to make than oatmeal.

  • hey, trader joe's has an identical product (although it comes in a puck that you have to put in a bowl) and it's very useful for those days when you want real irish oats but don't have time. and it's much easier to throw something in the microwave and do your other morning chores than stand over a pot.

  • Seems straightforward to me. I don't let the kids use the gas range.

But they are old enough to handle preparing oatmeal in the microwave... it's a convenience for me.

    Weekends are for McCann's.

  • It makes sense for the ultra lazy or the stoveless population. Frozen hot oatmeal. Haha, reminds me of the frozen hot chocolate at Serendippity in NYC.

  • It's been downhill since the advent of the pre-made peanut butter & jelly sandwich (Pepperidge Farm?).
