Food stamps provide AMPLE money for feeding a family. I spend less, and I buy luxury food products. If kids whose parents qualify aren't being fed, they should be removed from the parents' homes. The parents should not be subsided in the neglect of their children.

if you keep your kids in a bubble, pamper them, don't ever tell them that they didn't do well, stop them from eating candy and such, then you're not doing your job as a parent. Challenge them,teach them to think rationally, make them aware that the world is dangerous and prepare them for it, then you might be helping them grow to adulthood.
Palin will do anything for publicity including fighting children learning to eat foods that will keep them healthy. Pathetic woman. Thank you First Lady for taking up the cause. My brother is a custodian at a grade school. The whole school get's free breakfast, they all get freshfruit on their tray every day and 2% milk and juice. My brother said when they bus the tables 98% of the fruit, milk and juice is untouched, the kids said they won't drink "white" milk and don't like fruit and will only drink apple juice. There is no free lunch. The 50% of citizens who actually have an income tax liability are paying for the children of those who don't.
The kids need help, thats undeniable, but we shouldn't forget that anything that the government "gives" it must first "take" from someone else.
Sal, I'm not aware of any federal legislation on what can be sold at bake sales, or an impending legislation. Do you have links to them? I agree I don't want the federal government mandating what can be sold at bake sales but I don't have problems with private citizens suggesting that items be healthier.

I want good, healthy food for kids, but why do they have to take the extra step and dictate what can be sold at a bake sale? Anyone with an ounce of info about the Ag department's history would not want them to be setting the nutritional standards for their children.

I am glad to see Bristol talking about teenage pregnancy and abstinence and just wish her mom would use her popular voice to do more of the same. It would be great if they would get together on that subject and maybe even bring up CONDOMS (gasp) as a very simple, inexpensive answer to the problem of teenage pregnancy and abortion.
